Do we have next year’s thread yet? We got a commitment from a transfer: Dawson Garcia. He was #37 ranked/#4 PF and MCD All America as a HS Senior. He played at Marquette (All Big East Freshman) and then transferred to UNC after a coaching change. He left mid season due to family health issues and is now seeking a hardship waiver to play immediately. He went for 26 against Purdue last year and 14 against Michigan.
What are the family health issues? #North Carolina Tarheels fans said he was a team cancer, but not sure if that counts.
he left because he lost his starting job and the family covid shit was a convenient cover no one on the team ever talked to him after he left and they all publicly laughed at the mere idea of doing so when asked at a presser talented player but good riddance
there are tons of kids who have a grandparent pass away and leave for 3 months and don’t talk to teammates that’s totally why he left
I don’t know specifics but his grandma, that lived with them, was in the ICU and has since passed away His father is (was?) sick as well but I don’t know the details either.
Hunter ain’t done (being an insufferable prick but I forgive him because he’s my team’s insufferable prick) yet!
Rumblings that Emoni Bates is going to transfer to Michigan. How do the UM posters feel about that? Obviously he’s a talented kid, but he needs to learn play team basketball
Yeah I think that pretty much nails it. He's not the guy people thought he might be 2-3 years ago, but there's a lot of talent there still if he can harness it and buy into some structure. Big if based on his time in Memphis, but who knows.
I was rooting for this. It would be a mess. Quinn said on a podcast today that it's not going to happen though. Apparently even Howard doesn't want to deal with the family drama.
No interest in another prima donna who can't shoot, personally, but the Juwan Howard Home For Wayward Basketball Boys is always open.
Another bad bump... Former NBA player and Purdue Boilermakers standout Caleb Swanigan is dead at 25. The Purdue men's basketball program said Swanigan died Monday night, but did not provide further details. A first-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2017, the 6-foot-9 Swanigan played three years in the NBA with the Blazers and Sacramento Kings. Indiana's Mr. Basketball in 2015, Swanigan was a highly sought-after recruit that elected to stay home and play for the Boilermakers after originally committing to Michigan State. Swanigan had a standout sophomore campaign at Purdue, and was named the Big Ten player of the year and was a consensus first-team All American. He was also a finalist for the Naismith Award. Following the season he entered the NBA draft and was selected No. 26 overall.
He had a really tough life, I was hoping he’d be able to find his footing post basketball. Terrible news
Is there a 22-23 thread yet? It seems quite unusual but the Gophers had 2 PFs suffer season ending ACL tears last spring/summer. They have both Ben cleared for contact over the last 6 months and suffered new season ending ACL tears that will force them to miss this year too.
