Low money. It's like a $30 entry just to give some of my buddies something to do. And even then it's hard with my group of friends that doesn't really like baseball that much. There are about 6 or 7 of the 10 who are into it. The others just fill out the league, basically.
Here's where I ended up. I like it for the most part but need to get some HR pop which is why I went Duvall in the final round. Spoiler
would you be that surprised if Hoskins led the NL in homers? I wouldn't. I tend to like ESPN's ranking the best but it is a hard job for them to do when you don't know the format. Unlike fantasy football there's just so much variance in the scoring systems and the way people play. I think there is a big difference in strategy between head to head and roto leagues. For instance I personally don't think just raw strikeouts are as valuable in head to head as they are in roto, which would make a guy like Berrios more attractive to me in roto than in H2H. I had him in my top 30 roto rankings because he is a guy that does compile innings, Ks, and wins (rare these days) and those counting stats add up, even though I don't think he's that great of a pitcher. I like your team btw and especially some of the potential you have with some young pitchers. Skubal scares me a bit, but if he can keep the ball in the park this year, the talent is definitely there...
In short, yes. He hasn’t been healthy in 2+ years. BAT X is the only projected I’ve seen over 35 HRs. I would be very surprised.
I drafted DeGrom in the 2nd round of my 12 teamer, so fantasy baseball is officially scuffed for me this year. I also have Sale as I figured I could stash him on the IL for a month no problem. The only good news is that it’s a daily H2H league with 4 adds per week so I can stream volume at SP.
Keeper options for me are: Trea Turner Bo Bichette Bryce Harper Rafael Devers Aaron Judge Machado I’m really just inclined to lock in my middle infield with Bichette and Trea…
I still think it’s probably them because they’re both true 6 tool options. I love Devers though. Judge can’t stay healthy
I’d go Turner and Harper or Bichette. I think Devers is your other option but 3B is decently deep. What pick do you have in the redraft? I’d take a look at the other teams in front of you and figure out if they’re keeping a SS as well. If they do, keep Harper and hope Bichette is there on your pick.
Our draft is a snake draft and is dependent on who your keepers are. So depending on the pre-season ranking of your two keepers, it goes in reverse order. If I pick Trea and Bichette, for example, I'm almost definitely going to have the last pick. I probably will regardless of what I do, honestly.
What is everyone's thoughts on Yelich? I took him in a competitive, deep league. One of those picks where I wasn't thrilled to make it, but he had the most upside of anyone left on the board at OF. I'm pretty worried about him, but again the investment is low. Never had him before so maybe someone can convince me to be more optimistic here.
I think if he can stay off the DL he will put up top 50 OF numbers. The hit tool is there, but not where it was.
I’m out on Yelich. He’s a starting OF that plays every day and hits in a good spot in the lineup though, so that has value in very deep and NL only leagues I guess.
Yeah I am generally staying away. I will say at his price he is certainly worth a shot in the draft, he's not any insane overpay. Maybe look to see if you can trade him for someone on a juggernaut roster this year?
Everyone would like to think he’s turned a corner. Has legit big league stuff, but hasn’t been at all consistent. Cautiously optimistic this time
it's crazy to look at his stats and realize that he turned into the best hitter in the game (or one of) for just two seasons then turned right back into a pumpkin. That's what it looks like from looking at the advanced numbers, anyways. So strange that a guy in his prime could just lose it like that. I tend to agree w/ you and think he is more Marlins Yelich than early Brewers Yelich. Still taking him over Bellinger, who has a similar situation imo, for this season. Maybe I am wrong on that, and I try not to put much into Spring numbers, but Bellinger had about as bad of a Spring as you an have.
I think Vaughn is worth keeping an eye on. That lineup is nuts, he’s virtually free right now and he should have ample chances to hit with guys on base or against fringe RP.
If Matt Olson went undrafted in your league, you should consider picking him up. Also, lots of value in Ronald Acuna this year, sneaky good pickup late that no one will be considering.
I was happy to see the Rays giving Josh Lowe regular playing time and a solid lineup spot at 6th. I like his potential a lot, he's probably unowned in 97% of leagues and could very well be a 20/20 guy as a rookie with a solid AVG. I was pretty worried about playing time with him but if they like him enough to move Meadows for him, that says a lot.
For real though, the biggest pleasant surprise of the weekend for the Braves was Spencer Strider who throws gas and struck out 5 batters in 2 IP. Worth keeping an eye on him, but he's coming out of a pretty deep bullpen right now, so tbd on his fantasy value. On the Cinci side of things, Tyler Mahle looked good, but did give up some hard hit balls that found gloves, but I doubt he's available anyway. Hunter Greene from Cincinatti impressed me a lot yesterday. He was a #2 overall pick in 2017 or 2018, and he looked completely ready imo. He struck out 7 in 5 innings. This is just my take from watching him yesterday, but the biggest question with him will be how well he makes in game adjustments the 2nd and 3rd time through the batting order.
really? Wow He is up to 14% in espn, up from 1% owned last week. Crazy that there is that big of a gap between services
Been offered Montas or Wheeler for Riley Greene and some draft capital. Wheeler has a higher ceiling but he’s been awful this year and I think his shoulder is bothering him. I’ve got Clevinger as well coming off the DL. Not sure if I should take Montas.
What’s your opinion on sitting H2H pitching starters? Pitching stats: 71 vs 56 k 5 vs 4 QS 3 vs 6 W 8 vs 1 Saves 2.39 vs 2.91 era 1.09 vs 1.08 whip I still have Jordan Hicks on STL and Fleming vs Minny. Opponent has Fried and Daniel Lynch. My question is should I sit my pitchers to preserve a few categories and hope his pitchers mess up?
fwiw think fried is getting pushed back tomorrow. i’d prolly sit Hicks and Fleming if that’s the case
Just hit his 5th bomb of the year (only 9 all last season). He’s definitely been serviceable, and I was probably wrong for being totally out on him in every league this year.
I’m still out on him. If he goes the full 162, then I’ll give him a look next season maybe. It just feels like the first 20 games that the team goes as Rowdy goes and not Yelly. Cain isn’t what he was either. He ought to be hitting 40 bombs a year in that stadium. He’s seeing Pittsburgh and Cincy pitching for a ton of games.
