Is there any concern about height? We joke about Stetson being a midget but he seemed the same height as Bryce. I mean he threw for 800 yards against Georgia last year so I think he's awesome but I'm also not an NFL scout.

The theory that height completely hinders a QB's draft position was weakened by Mayfield and then obliterated by Murray

His weight is a different issue, but like Murray, he seems pretty adept at avoiding contact

Of course there are concerns about height and weight with Young. He’s the size of a small elementary school child. That’s all that will be talked about for a year.

I was terrified about durability going into last season as well as batted balls. He exceeded my expectations in dealing with both of those issues and we will see how he fairs in year two. As mentioned above, he did a great job at not taking bad hits behind a lackluster OL that was a turnstile on the right side and found lanes to throw the ball without many batted. But the NFL is a different story. Despite what we have seen with Mayfield and Murray’s draft position, I think it’s a legitimate concern.

Malachi Moore in the 1st round is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in a mock. Truly atrocious.

The way ND recruits, a lot of 4*s but not a lot of real high ones, is not going to be kind using that metric.

I will say that coming into this year we had a pretty good record of guys running faster than people thought at the combine than people thought (which is what we are talking about here). Boykin, Claypool, Eq, etc all ran a lot faster than most figured coming in.

Mcshay with 5 QBs on the first 10 picks. I guess we will see how it shakes out, but if that happens, gonna be a lot of busts drafted.

it’s a pretty good class. 5 QBs could be in play. RB is also very good. Bijan is elite.

I get that 5 QBs can be in play. But generally when that happens, teams reach, and you get a lot of QB needy teams drafting QBs in the top 10. And generally, more than half bust. I find that type of stuff compelling. See the 2017 draft. Baker, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Lamar. Good fodder.

NFL draft 2023 rankings: Mel Kiper's top 25 prospects Big Board, best by position, including Will Anderson Jr., Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud
    By Mel Kiper Jr.
    ESPN Football Analyst

After a couple of weeks of rest following the 2022 NFL draft, it's time to look way ahead to next year's loaded class with my early 2023 rankings. Consider this is a first attempt at stacking my Big Board -- the top 25 prospects overall in the class -- and ranking the top guys at every position, starting with the quarterbacks and working our way down to the kickers and punters.

You've probably already read Todd McShay's debut 2023 mock draft, so you should know it's extremely early to try to project what's going to happen this season that could shake up next year's draft. But this is what we do, of course, and this class already looks far superior at the quarterback position. Alabama's Bryce Young, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, will have a few signal-callers breathing down his neck at the top of the board. This is also a really strong class along the defensive line -- again -- and at wide receiver.

Two caveats before I unveil my 2023 Big Board and position rankings, same as usual at this time of the year:

    • It's early, and I'm going to be wrong about a few prospects. Just look at Spencer Rattler last May. I'm not writing detailed scouting reports yet because I still have a lot of work to do on these prospects, many of whom have started only one season. On some of these guys, I'm projecting what they could do this season, which means they have a high ceiling but still need to reach it on the field.
    • Heights and weights are based on what we have from schools; we don't get official numbers until the combine next March.
    Let's get right into it:

NFL mock draft 2023: Matt Miller's predictions for all 32 first-round picks, with landing spots for six quarterbacks
    By Matt Miller

You can feel the excitement in the air. College football preview magazines are hitting newsstands. Our own colleagues at ESPN are debating which teams are candidates for a national title run and who should be a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy. Football season is just around the corner.

Fellow NFL draftniks know the start of college football is also the start of scouting season. Yes, we put in hours of work over the summer evaluating last year's tape and getting rankings ready for the season, but much of that is simply prep work to begin watching prospects when the season kicks off.

What fun is all that summer prep without some predictions? And for me, there's nothing better than a mock draft to evaluate team needs, player value and get a look at which position groups are strong and weak in the early stages of the 2023 NFL draft process.

Below is my first crack at projecting the top 32 picks, an extremely early evaluation based on 2021 tape, expected progression from prospects and expected NFL team needs. A lot should and will change once we get new information (from game tape to injuries) from each prospect. And with name, image and likeness (NIL) deals changing the landscape of college sports, it's no longer a guarantee stars will leave early for the pros.

A few important notes before we get started: This Round 1 order is based on the 2023 projections from ESPN's Football Power Index, which are different from what Todd McShay used on his early mock draft in May. Underclassmen in this projection are noted with an asterisk, and it includes the five first-round trades that have already been executed.
