Thoughts on Getaway @ Jockey Club?

Seems a little dated but reasonable rates and good location

Heading out next Saturday, staying at Park MGM. I’ve only ever gone out in the fall (plus once for MM), so it will be different for me to maybe hit up a pool or not have a full day of watching sports. Think we’re planning on doing dinners at Superfrico, Din Tai Fung, and Best Friend. Then we’re also going to check out Area15.

Get there the final day of the draft, so hoping the following Sunday/Monday things have calmed down a bit and I’ll venture to the middle of the strip.

I ate at DTF a few days ago. It’s very good. Make a reservation. At Park MGM check out Eataly for a lunch. Reservation recommended.

We have made reservations at the 3 places listed above so should be good there. We were thinking of getting Eataly for lunch after we land while waiting to check in. Reservation for Eataly?

Eataly vendors seemed to keep weird hours when I was there a month ago. Could have been midweek staffing shortages or something, but it seemed like a lot of the places were closed each time I went through.

It’s more like a “food court” isn’t it?

From what I saw, it looked like a high end food court, also with a traditional restaurant and some shop-style stands. Others on here have eaten there and can probably give better descriptions. I didn’t end up stopping because I didn’t feel like spaghetti or sliced meats at the time.

Yes, if you plan to dine around noon. After 2:00 on a weekday I doubt it would be needed.

The first time ai tried was on a Tuesday at noon. They said to come back about 2:30. I didn’t want to have lunch that late, so I then made reservations for noon the next day.

Anyone know what walking the strip will be like from Saturday-Monday? I know the street will be closed for the draft but will walking around that part be OK? Just trying to avoid having to walk like 3 miles out of the way just to cross the street.

From what I’ve seen, the only potential issue could be Bellagio/paris/ballys. Stay on the west side of the street and worst case scenario you have to cut through Bellagio for that block.

The east side from Harrahs to PH will probably be a giant crowd.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I was thinking. I was out there a few years ago when they had a marathon and you basically couldn’t cross the street anywhere in the middle of the strip.

Sucks because I kind of like hitting a couple of the places by Linq, at least once.

Went to Best Friend on Monday night and it was awesome. I had seen some reviews mention the portion size being small, and a few of the pictures I saw made it seem that way too. It must have been the “chef’s menu” thing they do because I convinced my GF to order a ton of food and there was way more than expected. But all of it was amazing.

Kimchi Fried Rice, elote corn, and Kogi Tacos were the best but the spicy pork and fries with the ramen seasoning were great as well.

Superfrico at Cosmo was a pretty fun/interesting atmosphere. My GF got the chicken parm and it was probably the best I’ve ever had (usually not my favorite dish). I got the regular pizza which was good, but wish I got another kind. Only complaint I had was the seat we had, my back was to the middle of the restaurant so I couldn’t see some of the entertainment. After that we went to the “speakeasy” place attached to it Ski Lodge. Again really cool/different atmosphere and setup, both cocktails we got were awesome.

Girlfriend and I arrive tomorrow morning around 9. We're getting brunch at Bardot, dinner at SW and then hitting Absinthe at night. Saturday night were going to see Silk Sonic which was the main reason we are making the trip. Leaving Saturday during the day open to do whatever we feel like, but I'm definitely trying to watch some horse racing.

devine is in my neighborhood, what a time to be alive.

Circa has really forced the downtown properties to up their maintenance regiments. Golden Nugget is way cleaner than even a year ago. Even the shit holes like 4 Queens have upped their cleanliness.

On a serious note though, I’d get dropped off at Mandalay Bay and just spend the day wandering from one end to the other, stopping at each casino. Stop at Beer Park for an overpriced beer with a great view. Or there’s an Elysian Beer spot outside of Park MGM that is also usually quiet and great for people watching.

I’m also not really a foodie so I tend to be happy at most places to eat. The Cabo Wabo cantina is great if you sit outside on the patio. Food is good but the view is pretty great if you’re not someone who does LV all the time. Just another good spot to take in the Strip.

Circus Circus has some stuff but it’s way far up North almost by itself and that place kind of scares me. If you check out Resort World though, it’s not far from there.

NYNY roller coaster is the only one I’d bother with though.

The outside bar at Harrah’s where they blow the whistles and do all the bartender tricks is both the cheesiest and best people watching spot on the strip. Depends on the weather and if they have some good energy going but I’ve posted up there before with friends just to watch the shit show. Glorious. Walmart meets Las Vegas with a dash of New Orleans. I like O’Sheas on the strip for blue collar gambling too. Good spot. Haute Dog is worth a cheap bite. Too many places to list them all but you have some great options.

I’ll second the wandering one end to the other idea, but beware it’s a lot more working than the mileage on the street. I averaged about 11 miles of steps/day and that was parking and walking the strip in smaller chunks/loops each day this last trip.
