The initial law didn’t include ‘life-threatening’ measures, be we all know where a lot of this shit is going.
Kansas already is pushing a "treat them both equally" (as in the mom and the fetus) law. Who cares if the mom dies if we can save the baby and have nobody alive to raise it
There a lot of ramifications to this, even after the kid is born. And there really aren't any good solutions. Best hope is the as the old bigots die off, they aren't replenished at the same rate.
You don’t want to be in the Midwest when the PNW says “we’ve had enough of your bullshit and we’re fucking off”.
we could 100% afford this at this time. Butttttt I’m not naive enough to think that shit can’t hit the fan. I’m also not naive enough to think that Nebraska will eventually get measures through that wouldn’t cover my wife in a life-threatening situation. Long-story short. This was not something I was hoping to have to even entertain as a potential HUGE issue when debating the pros/cons of having a kid. There is already a ton of fucking things to consider, and a woman being pregnant always comes with risks. You hate to see the pro-life people increase these risks drastically because they don’t give a fuck.
There’s sooooooo many “vote yes, value them both” stickers and signs where I’m at. And it’s not a law, it’s a constitutional amendment. Eat Arby’s.
I think it’s funny that people actually believe California and New York are going to go along with a federal ban of abortion, gay marriage, interracial marriage etc. that’s never going to happen and it’s going to cause a constitutional crisis. That shit is 100% going to lead to country breaking up
The place I lay my head isn’t perfect but I’ve never been more grateful to live where I do than I have since 2016. Now if insurance would cover my gummies we’d be cooking with gas.
Like these majority blue states ain’t gonna let these backwoods, redneck, pedophilia loving, racist Christian zealots tell them what to do. Mother fuckers are leeches on this country and would die without federal dollars or the money those states bring in. Fuck them, fuck anyone who voted for them and fuck every single piece of shit American Christian in this country. Fuck these freaks
I don’t feel like blue states are gonna roll over and let these things happen either it’s going to break up the country
depends on what you mean by “spared”. I don’t think we will have to deal with exactly the same shit as red states. We will have to deal with blowback or residual effects but I don’t think we will see the same type of bans here that we will see in the Midwest and South.
I think Republicans would love nothing more than shitting on California as much as possible. They already ignored fires there under Trump
Like Truman was saying yesterday with the filibuster, Roe v Wade had been the king wedge issue for the Rs. There are lots of other issues they can use to stir up fear in the chuds, but Roe was the issue for decades. They could always bank on a large percentage of voters just on that one issue. What do they do in '25 if they hold Congress/WH? Pass a federal ban?
it’s like when all you have is hope you hold on to it for dear life. So you two are probably right but I have to hope that you’re wrong. In 2015 I was a stupid “the constitution is too strong nothing will change once trump is elected” type guy. I quickly realized I was wrong. Now I’m a stupid Cali is too strong we will stand up to the idiots. I’ll probably be proven wrong but until then I hold on to hope.
My comments were more about them not wanting to pass it because it will motivate dem voters probably more than anything, rather than using it as a carrot to lure GOP voters. They already get that w the judges.
I'm not even sure how a break up works either. Technically Georgia is a blue state but we have Republicans in power everywhere. Even if you had Dems in power it's close to a 50/50 split either way. That's even if states would be allowed to leave
This is the problem every state is essentially a rural urban divide and the country is ass backwards because land gets more representation than people
If you start seeing mass migrations of like-minded people out of states, that’s when clearer dividing lines will form.
Any real red/blue national schism is unlikely to go well for the red faction. Having a populace almost entirely derived from poor straight whites who distrust education is going to end badly.
At the very least it will be technologically nascent. Agrarian and basic industrial plants that produce a lot of raw materials, but very little of the advanced IP developments that have come to define the modern American economy. The Apple/Amazon/Tesla/etc. have very little essential footprints in what would be considered the stronghold of a GOP national landscape. The big question marks in that scenario are cities like Nashville, Austin, Atlanta, etc. that are thriving metropolitan areas in otherwise red strongholds, as you mentioned earlier.
trust me, it will get worst than it is now, the cities are pretty much like any other American city for now
Yep. As long as Roe v Wade was in effect, the GOP didn't have to do anything but tell their voters to elect them to get more judges. Now they have all the judges they need in the supreme court to defeat Roe. I wonder how much pressure will be on the GOP to pass a national ban. Like you say, this will now be a big motivator for D voters.
Even if (and I don't believe it will happen) a national anti-abortion law is passed, I guarantee you blue states will protect their citizens from Federal Govt. enforcement. This is all a bridge too far, but that is a bridge well beyond and it won't be deemed unpopular to defend those rights in States who think this is all backwards bullshit. It is just ridiculous that we even need to consider this nonsense. My wife would probably dead right now or we wouldn't have my son if any of this was in effect 15 years ago. My wife had an unviable fetus and had to have a D&C. She would either be dead, disabled, or would not have been able to get pregnant again with my third. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm sorry, we may be "liberals" but you are not killing my wife or taking either of us to jail under those circumstances and not going to be threatened with your own lives. I am not a violent person, but I would flip the fuck out.
The "I'd never in a thousand lifetimes leave the west coast" take usually starts to soften in July, when the entire region burns down and no one can breathe. That's not exactly on track to get any better
A Republican trifecta will argue any fetus beyond 6 weeks is protected by the 14th amendment and base a national ban on that.
It’ll be an all out ban with it being at time of conception. they’re not letting women have any sort of chance of finding out before 6 weeks
What’s to stop an Abortion Cruise to be set up in these red states that have a coast? If it goes out to International waters, where is the issue?
