Idk if I've made a mistake, but my son can't say and animal names but he sure as fuck can make every noise if every animal on earth and in the oceans. Little WED say "cat" --meow Say shark --chomps teeth Say elephant --screams
Nothing like starting your day off with a call to Poison Control. Infant has had some really bad congestion the last week and my wife woke me up asking to grab some nasal saline spray. Grabbed the bottle labeled “nasal spray”. Turns out that was an offbrand Afrin and the saline spray was on the shelf above. Fortunately Poison Control said she should be fine and her sinuses will be cleared up for the morning. She’s definitely breathing better lol. Side note: Poison Control is a tremendous public service.
Called it 2-3 times in my day. They are always amazing. daughter ingested those small plastic ball packages that come in consumer packages. No idea what they are called. Also one time we accidentally served my son 5x the suggested dosage of something(I want to say Motrin but it may have been some kind of gas medicine). Either way neither call was a big deal. And they were a tremendous help.
Ours can say the names (elephant being the most adorable) but he refers to them by the sounds they make first. He loves his horses but calls them “neighs”, cows are “moos”, etc.
My son does the same but we use “Wheels on the bus…” immediately he starts dancing and waving his arms. It’s awesome.
This is pretty normal for some speech delayed kids. Mine was fairly delayed and we are doing speech therapy now. It was crazy, when he was 14 months old he had a phone that would say “HELLO!” And he would say it clear as day, but wouldn’t say any thing else. Barely dada or mama. Check out a video series on YouTube called “Songs for Littles”. It’s all about speech development. They incorporate sign language and all kinds of stuff. My kid will watch it clued in for an hour if I let him. But he’s learned a ton, from colors, to animals to numbers and yes even sign language. Please, Thank you, more, and all done. It’s been a huge help for us. Here is their channel: https://youtube.com/c/SongsforLittlesToddlerLearningVideos
I got my daughter doing a monkey scratching her arm pits and chicken flapping her elbows. She’s smart as shit and has a crazy vocabulary for less than a year and a half.
Little info packet we got from our pediatrician said kids shouldn't get screen time till 2 years old. Baby Butch is 2.5 months old and we catch her staring at the TV. Mom is pretty adamant on getting her to stop.
Mine presses his lips together and makes a fart noise for elephant, mimicking the trunk sound I guess.
almost 4 year old took my beard trimmer to his noggin this morning and now has a baseball sized bald spot on his head
Our 9 month old stares at the TV sometimes too. I guess the main option would be to just not watch TV around her, but that sounds hard to avoid imo. We have also let her watch Bluey every once in awhile to distract her, but not for long periods of time.
Shit ours watches his shows all the time. He’s almost 2 and can grab an iPad and go to Netflix or Disney and click on coco melon or monsters and play an episode. Probably not the best but I don’t see how they can avoid it. I know they watch tv at school as well and it’s not like I’m not going to have a game on and just lock him up where he can’t see the tv.
Don't beat yourself up over the TV. I think the intent is to not allow TV to be their main source of enrichment aka letting the kid sit there and just mindlessly stare at the tv for prolonged periods. Talk to your kid, play with your kid, give them lots of interesting things to look at and play with. We will play infant visual stimulation videos for 5-10 minutes to help her use her eyes.
This is the dream. We are up to about 5-10 minutes of attention span on any one thing when he's not tired.
Son got circumcised today and this shit is stressful and a tad overwhelming keeping it clean and safe
yea our hospital does not do it anymore and I really wish they did. Thankfully my step mom is a nurse and she was able to ease our minds a lot by helping us go through the first change after the doctor
Do the “swirl” with the ointment. Basically make the tip of the penis look like it’s covered in soft serve ice cream with the ointment before putting the diaper on. That’s what we were shown and we didn’t have any issues with it getting irritated.
Found this interesting this morning, https://www.biospace.com/article/researchers-answer-how-and-why-infants-die-from-sids/ Hopefully this solves that issue or points us in the right direction.
My kids and wife have had two viruses in a row. This last week has been hell. Everyone is up all day/night coughing and hacking and snot’s everywhere. On another note, tomorrow is my 7 yo’s championship game for baseball. I’m the coach and this might be my last time doing it. Talk about another kind of hell…adults/parents just fucking suck all around. I’ve been yelled at by other coaches, parents of players on my own team, umpires, everyone. For 7 yo baseball. It’s ridiculous.
In my experience coaching youth sports for 11 years, you establish asshole yelling dominance early each season and no one bothers you.
Yeah, that’s not me. I’ve really enjoyed the coaching aspect, but it’s overshadowed by the extracurricular garbage of dealing with shitbag adults.
I did 3/4 year old soccer. Long story short after the first day a Mom ended up cussing out the league manager cause of my coaching :) she was kicked out of the league. Felt the worst for her son, he was a good kid.
Man there are some fun moments about being a dad. I usually sit in my sons room in a chair while he winds down in his crib for about 10 mins. The other night he was rolling around and standing up so I went over and laid down on the floor next to his crib. He scoots over and starts peeking over to see what I am looking at on my phone which turns into me playing a quick little game of peek a boo with him and laughing with him. It’s just him and I in the world and nothing else matters and he is giggling and laughing. I swear there is nothing better in the world.
My son had his Pre K graduation yesterday (he is going to a different one next year as he missed the cutoff for kindergarten) and he made a book. He gave it to me and said I made a page for you. I’m not going to lie I got super emotional on this one. Spoiler
I’m obviously very new to this, but there really isn’t anything better than my baby girl seeing me and then smiling so big.
My oldest son “graduated” from kindergarten yesterday and hit his first home run in tee-ball this evening. The week before my younger son got an award at school for “self control” (one of their life skills or something) and held himself together when he had to play a whole soccer game without any subs. Just really proud of both of them, but also I can’t believe how quickly it’s going. It’s especially bittersweet because we lost a number of pregnancies the in the last year and probably will not be trying for any additional kids. As much work as it’s been with these two hooligans, I wish I could hold onto this stage of parenthood longer.
But jesus he's growing like a weed, went from not reaching the top drawer handle last week to being over it this week. While growing longer he's slimming up so much with as active as he is. Mr. Chubs has went to Mr. Lean in about a months time.
Fwiw, I woke up from a nap exactly like this and they're now 10. It isn't a fucking joke in the least. Maintain your patience. Remember all the shit you remember about being a kid and how you didn't feel listened to it were scared of it. Be kind. Sounds trite or condescending. But it's really good advice. Their minds are constantly racing, too. Help them with it. Sorry if this comes off as odd. But in year, they'll theyll start to talk and walk. You'll blink and it's a bus. You remember that shit show. From there it accelerates. Just remember they are their own people. Talk to them the same way. Love
