brian lyman, one of the better journalists in the state imo, wrote a decently interesting piece on him that i read this morning. i guess you could say he's avoiding the sort of insane rhetoric you've seen from the others, but he's still a pretty standard issue republican https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.co...dette-tries-a-novel-focus-alabama/7365520001/ but for me personally, failing to support medicaid expansion puts you in the pos category: "(He would neither commit to nor reject expansion of Medicaid, which the state’s hospitals have pushed for years.)"
I met him when I had a summer job at King's Ranch/Hannah Home one summer back in high school. He was kidnapped, beaten, stabbed, thrown down a well and left for dead when he was a teenager. It's a pretty wild story. https://www.kingshome.com/president
Not sure what happened to Automatic but that place has gone downhill. Now the food was ok but the service and presentation left a lot to be desired.
Not at all. I had another friend say the same. While the menu is roughly the same as it was before, there are numerous discernible differences between this version of Automatic versus the one from a year ago.
this might be an unpopular take but i've enjoyed five points public oyster house the most for my oyster needs of late
Need to get some flowers delivered to my mom for Mothers Day, they’re in the Cahaba Heights area… any suggestions on good vendors?
Not sure they deliver but Leaf & Petal is probably the best florist in the area. https://leafnpetal.com/ 370 Summit Blvd Birmingham, AL
Imagine throwing away your retirement and pension to help some ugly fucking white supremacist escape jail. I would’ve shot myself after getting caught too.
it's basically just an ep of justified when they were still doing the "villain of the week" style lol
wes tegg can you update the first post in the thread as I will be apparently spending a decent amount of time in Birmingham going forward
Not really. It’s a screen shot of the spreadsheet from the old thread, which I don’t have. If someone wants to make a new one, I’ll post it. But, either way, welcome!
I have been using a woman on Rocky Ridge for the past year or so. Flower Betty. They are in the shopping center across from the Publix on rocky ridge. sweet lady and she will get something done for you last minute if you ask.
Durant may be the dumbest motherfucker alive: He thought that the attribution of the quote to Rick Wilson meant that the postcard was from Rick Wilson.
I live in the county over, 20 minutes away, but I’m on lake wedowee quite a bit. Bare in mind, wedowee is a small place and the food can’t compare to Birmingham so if you want a nice dinner, make the hour drive. bobbers grill is decent food but is a fun atmosphere when they have bands playing. Definitely the top choice there. Lynniebo’s is the place to go one weekend night. Seafood actually is decent and you can sit back and laugh at the white trash while drinking their specials for that weekend. They normally do something every weekend, I think I saw on Facebook their luau party is Saturday. miss ambers cafe is a good lunch place to hit up, sandwiches and burgers. Drive to lineville, AL. to Farmhouse for their cowboy cut steak, it’s good. It’s about 15-20 minutes from wedowee depending on the part of the lake you’re at. mexican and BBQ are fine, nothing special. I haven’t been the past few months but I’ll ask the ones I know that own lake houses if there is any new places around. I’ll let you know if so.
I've been looking at farm house and will be trying it soon. Also saw the pizza shack in lineville that looks OK. Birmingham is like 2 hours from our house somehow. Also get my fill of fancy in Atlanta. I think Roanoke is like 30 minutes from us. Think there's more stuff there.
pizza shack is in Ashland, about 5 minutes from lineville. Their pizzas are great, they use all fresh ingredients. If you go on Thursday, buy a large pizza and get a small for free. Meat lovers is $17 so for a large and the free small, definitely worth it. BUT, take cash. The woman that owns it will not update to a card machine. Cash or check only. The chuck wagon in Roanoke is good. Clark Brothers butchery opened it so all of their steaks and meats are top of the line. It’s a little pricey but definitely good food.
sorry, no help on that one. I’ve heard good things about their calzones so I’m sure their pizza is good too.
Will be here in town for the next five weekends and again in July. Are there any good Irish/English pubs to recommend?
Carrigans, Lous and Daves are about as close to it. Birmingham really lacks a quality irish/english pub scene
The Little London serves English food if that's something you desire. Otherwise, One Two will be at Innisfree Irish Pub by 4:30 today. The only thing Irish about it besides the name is the enthusiasm and passion for drinking one might find inside it.
I hated/hate Innisfree with a passion. It was a high school reunion every time I went in early to mid 20's. However, that is where I might my now wife so its a bit bittersweet spot for me (not sure if I've told that story here or not, forgive me)
Innisfree is a very authentic Irish pub. It’s got a DJ, tons of vodka and red bulls, and if you’re lucky you might get a handjob on the patio dance floor.
Honestly if you are a beer guy I’d check out our breweries. Dave’s Pub is about as close as you’ll get to what you are looking for in an English/Irish Pub.
Carrigan’s and Lou’s aren’t even close. Black Market in five points is Irish-y. Dave’s is kind of. RIP Brennan’s.
