this frames crypto as the only solution, which is fitting for you, but no serious person thinks that

No serious person lol. Let’s hear your solution then…

Bank 1.2 billion people and give them property rights. My idea requires internet and a cell phone. What’s yours?

As a bag holder, you are all welcome. I took some profits in BTC in the 60k range, but never took profit on my ETH. I’m going to let it ride.

but also we could just make a global public banking system to accomplish the same thing you want, which isn't really a serious solution for much, but it doesn't inflate your all BTC bet so you'll find problems with it. capitalism is good at offering false solutions to desperate people to scam them though, which is what all this is.

Betting on network effect when the pubic has a generally negative view (if not outwardly hostile view) of your product is probably a bit optimistic. Especially since media will be aggressively against it and share every scam gleefully

I disagree with the premise. Tether is a $78B product. USD coin is $50B. Binance USD is $17b. That’s nearly $150B of US dollar stable coins. It will be a trillion+ soon enough. The public does not have a generally negative view of stable coins, nor is it a bet. There’s plainly a massive market need for the product. And the US will regulate them accordingly, or it will transition to a central bank digital currency and everyone will use that. Either way, the future is “crypto” dollars for billions of people.

The truth is, no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works

    Is this 1995 again?

Pretty sure you needed a disc of some format to install your aol internet or upgrade your operating system, install software

but you’re right that got replaced rather quickly with another format several times over the last 20+ years

People hate change. Change is inevitable. Yada yada yada.

We've talked about this a hundred times. The tech is cool but it's toxic because people who vocally support it are generally toxic and outsiders love watching it fail

Normal people will be anti adoption out of spite, which was never the case with any other advancement I can think of

I don't really see this toxicity outside of here, but I also don't go searching for articles or twitter posts to bring back here for a few likes.

It’s not shocking that I’m going to look at the data behind companies building blockchain products instead of the person who had a bad experience with crypto and the other who just shows up here to talk negatively about it. It's my job and I also was very lucky this time last year with a few early purchases. That I do remember discussing on here multiple times.

I'm not saying it's how it should work but any casual conversation I've had about crypto in the last six months has been with people neutral at best. Women seem to hear a lot about the environmental impact. Men seem to associate crypto with apes. Those more familiar with crypto may throw money in but are turned off by the true believers

This is just my bubble but it's dozens of middle class young people in three US cities.

Like you said, we have lived through a lot of change, I don't remember anything that eventually got big but people thought it was terrible. Slow adoption came from lower barriers to entry (often price), not perception change

If my primary resource for crypto was TMB and something like Twitter I would fucking stay away too.

I'm not innocent of the toxicity. But a lot of these perceptions for some of you have changed and are wildly different from a year ago when things were a little bit greener. And the same people who hate and are dismissive of crypto keep showing up to the crypto thread(s) to add to that negativity. That's pretty fucking weird and kinda shows how toxic their headspace is. I'll take my laps for getting defensive and shitposting in response to those types in the few threads I post in, while they do it in every. single. thread.

10 years of product management in the construction industry and SaaS says otherwise. I guess I'm speaking from first-hand experience and have a different perception than you do about some things.

Reddit is toxic too. And obviously discord. Where would one interested in crypto find out more that's isn't toxic over the last year? Unless they have a friend already invested I'm not sure there is one

The media loves an enemy so non-crypto people will just hear once a month about Luna crashing or apes being stolen or some idiot kid who accidentally fat fingered a bid and that will be literally all they hear about crypto and they'll form opinions around that

Discord was an incredibly different experience in May 2021 than it is in May 2022.

99% of the internet is toxic, though. We could keep piling on. Download .TOR and let's go see the other 90% of the internet. I think you know this though. And we both agree that the scams, market manipulation, and poor coding are a problem preventing new users from joining. As well as an incredibly poor UX, but that's where I get paid.

The Biden admin’s exec order on crypto estimates that 40 million Americans have invested in, traded, or used crypto. To say nothing of adoption in hundreds of other countries. I think you’re underestimating the public’s perception of the industry.

I saw that. 16% off adults. What percentage of those do you think believe it's the future and not just a way to make money? Because I'd say maybe 25% of people I talk to would be a "yes" to the Biden survey and all did so as speculators

Another survey found more people view crypto negatively than people who view it positively though

I think the percent of people dca’ing into crypto and who currently believe it’s the future is probably less than 5% of current holders. I expect that number to continually increase as UX, knowledge, spot Etf, Us regulations, etc. all develop.

Yeah, I agree it'll grow but I think it's unreasonable to compare it to CD-Roms which were a significantly less important change than "how you spend money," were easier to adopt, and faced no vocal opposition in the media

I know that was just an example from PTD, just saying

I think a lot of retailers will push for payments over the lightning network. Credit card processing fees as middlemen are going to be a thing of the past imo. Better to have a bearer asset with significantly cheaper fees.
