One complaint. No officially flyby. Maverick technically does one at the end in the F14 but it’s not the same if he doesn’t ask for permission.
WHAT THE HELL WHERE YOU THINKING?! You told me not to think!! Great movie. Great movie theater experience! The nostalgia was there but the movie itself was great!! I legit thought they’d kill maverick until they made it home safely
goose’s son quoting him word for word with the do some of that pilot shit should’ve quenched your thirst then
Not only that but the original used a lot of old stock footage that had to be blown up from 16mm, so it always looked grainy. This movie recreated a lot of those shots on pristine HD film (might've been digital, either way it wasn't old stock footage).
He was great in Everybody Wants Some and awesome in Top Gun. I feel he should be a bigger star than Teller.
Did anyone else grow up on Top Gun and think this was fucking overly fan service trash that had zero compelling characters and want walk out 1/4 way through? Fucking awful
Saw it yesterday. I usually hate the idea of movies doing sequels with the angry offspring of a former character but I really enjoyed the movie.
100% I rewatched last night, easily one of the most impactful and memorable scores ever. Cannot wait to see the sequel.
I was really looking for and hoping for a Michael Ironside or Tom Skerrit return, but understand. Also, rest in peace Tony Scott. I think he would have been proud.
I had been drinking for several hours prior to going. In my defense, my drunk taste is really bad and cynical. I’ve avoided almost all talk about this movie, so I wasn’t aware that take was crazy. I now see that it’s universally loved and I should be caned or something. Will go back and try again
I’ve gathered “Dolby” is the preferred viewing message. Anyone know what NCG’s “Extreme, Atmos” option is?
Ironside apparently got into a fight with bruckheimer years ago and they haven’t spoken since. Also, ironside looks like an old pudgy man at this point, not a former fighter pilot. Ice worked because of the storyline with his IRL illness. Agree that it would have been cool to see jester and viper at the funeral though. something quick like viper asking maverick if “it can be done,” maverick nodding over to the casket and saying “he could have” and that’s it.
Totally wrong thread, my bad. Rough day to post something on the shitter in the morning and not check the board the rest of the day
Saw it via Regal's RPX option on Thursday night, seeing it in IMAX tonight. And may even do the 4DX option at some point this weekend since dblplay1212 said it was pretty cool. Have Regal Unlimited so the extra charges aren't too crazy for the additional viewing options, although now regretting my offer to also cover a friend's IMAX ticket tonight ;)
rewatched the original last night to get ready for seeing the new one tomorrow its such a basic weird movie, tony scott was a fascinating director
The other issue is the original was one of the first movies I remember watching. Grandfather played it on repeat way before it was age appropriate. I’ve never levied a second of critical thought at its character development or cheesy aspects but went into this expecting a Saving Private Ryan level of seriousness, which is obnoxious given the context. I suck and am mad at myself for sabotaging my first viewing instead of letting myself have fun
I blame Grandpa Kemp for playing TG repeatedly for underaged Paul and impressing it on his brain as a cinematic classic rather than a guilty pleasure.
I walked back a drunk post, invited people to cane me, and said I’d go back and watch it again. What else do you want?
