This opinion fucking sucks. But I’m not surprised that upstate South Carolina trash would besmirch Honey Monks
If you're near Waynesville looking for dinner gotta check out Bogart's Tavern, probably haven't been here since pre pandemic and just as i remembered the house prime rib is heavenly
In Bryson specifically you have the steam train. In the winter its just nonstop traffic for the polar express. They have a copy of the train they use with santa and the whole deal and grandparents from all over the country bring their grand kids. The rest of the year, there's a lot of 'tail of the dragon' traffic and general smoky mountain tourism
Maggie Valley is nice, not a lot of airbnb options I've found but can rec some good pet-friendly motels if anyone needs help out that way. I think the slopes were open last weekend, definitely the tubing hill ...
Anybody ITT frequent Boone? Looking for some dinner recs and it’s been a minute since I was up that way.
Was gonna definitely try to hit Lost Province, maybe on Sunday. This cold front blowing in is shitting on the weekend tho.
We always hit Local, for whatever reason it’s my wife’s favorite. I’m up there 2-3 times a month to see a Good friend that lives up there. Howard station bbq and Boone saloon are good too.
Pedalin' Pig if you want good BBQ. Cobo has amazing sushi. Come Back Shack is a great lunch burger spot. Our favorite breakfast spot is Sunrise Grill. Finally, Casa Rustica is a delicious spot for Italian and pasta.
We were in the area over the weekend and did Coyote Kitchen which was fine not great and Lost Province which was top notch.
The one time I visited Boone, I was in a bar and a male streaker came in and ran around, and I concluded "App kids are crazy"
Various beers, particularly liked the brown, the pretzel app which was tremendous, and the Depot St pizza that was also v good. Other couple got a charcuterie board which was really impressive as well.
So I'm from North GA, live in Austin TX right now and looking to move. 36 single no kids never married, one dog with maybe another on the way. I love Austin but housing is unaffordable and its too expensive. I also miss mountains and/or beach. Looking to buy a house that is relatively close to most things and could walk to a brewery or restaurant. I do travel frequently so definitely need somewhere with a decent airport and hopefully a decent dating scene. Do yall have any thoughts on current state of Asheville as well as projected growth? Other places I'm thinking about, Nashville (I know its not cheap but still affordable in my price range), Wilmington, Charlotte, or some crappy beach town in florida I'd still be able to afford decent real estate.
Raleigh is what you’re describing. It’s larger than Asheville or Wilmington, smaller than Charlotte or Nashville. 2+ hours to the beach, 3+ to the mountains, both straight shots on major highways. Has a huge, young business/professional population and a major airport. Plus a very well developed and spread our brewery and local food scene. Durham could also fit some of these check boxes but it’s a few years behind in development. Raleigh real estate has really exploded the last few years because of people and companies moving to the area but it’s still very affordable compared to other major metros. Feel free to PM if you’d like.
People around here will bitch about Asheville's affordability, but that's mainly because there's not much industry here so the pay sucks. If you're bringing your own job, Asheville is a great place to live. Being walkable to anything in a house is gonna be pricy (but I don't know what pricy means to you). West Asheville area would likely be the best option. Airport's tiny and not a ton of direct flights, depends on where you want to go. Dating scene can be good. I hate to overgeneralize, but there's definitely a type here. What level of wook do you like in a woman?
Raleigh was what I thought when I saw his post. You're close enough to the beach and you're in a great spot for young professionals. I miss Raleigh a good bit. That entire area is underrated now looking back.
I would add Charlotte in the South End for the airport, dating, walking to breweries and such. Bigger city of course. And SC beaches are farther than Raleigh.
1. I love that you bolded the action line like a work email. Thank you for making this easy for us. 2. What's wrong with Atlanta? 3. The very downtown of Asheville is super walkable, but that's it. You don't move to the mountains to date and walk around. Go up there if you want to drive places and have more nature. And if that's your move, prob skip Asheville proper and go to Weaverville or Hendersonville or some small town near it.
I think it's Charlotte based on what he said -- you will definitely have the airport and the "dating." Housing prices and whatnot are high, but you said growth in the area is important so that seems part and parcel
Lol that was my tl:dr but yes Yeah I don't know maybe this is the modern day mid life crisis but I'm just wondering what the hell I'm doing out in ATX. I love it here, just not sure I'll ever be able to purchase a home inside the city. I'm trying to find some up and coming southeastern city.
They are even saying housing prices are out of control here in Columbia SC. It was always cheap af to live here but Cola prices are now like Charlotte prices and Charlotte is like DC.
Greenville’s a bunch of douchebags who unjustifiably think they’re hot shit in my unbiased opinion. I would recommend if you’re a southern Baptist type though
Wide open palette. Carolina BBQ is one of my favorites. Would love to find a good cocktail or wine bar? I'm staying about a five minute drive from downtown Asheville.
Wife and I just bought tickets and lodging for Asheville in August. Staying downtown. Thanks for the thread dudes. We're going to eat a shitload and and drink a shit load and hike. Will monitor for all the best restrunts and breweries.
