Woof - them's were some one-sided semis. And thankfully we got the final we wanted. And even though I'm hoping Iga wins, I'm pleased for Coco. It's going to be an amazing time over the next 5 years with her, Leylah & Emma.
Courier saying Rafa woke up a little sore with his foot on Wednesday. Hopefully the extra day off helped in that regard
Took my first ever tennis lesson the other night and I'm hooked. Already signed up for some future lessons with the hope of eventually getting into some small local matches for fun. Any rec's on a beginners racket?
I'd just talk to a pro at a shop. Otherwise, just find a good price point on tennis warehouse or whatever.
If you're able, just don't go cheap. You don't have to go immediately to $300...but there are quality racquets starting around the $100-ish range. I definitely won't tell someone to NOT get the $25 Walmart racquet if it's that or nothing and playing is better than not playing...but you just want your racquet to be helpful and not make the game harder than it should be to just hit a ball over the net. So making a smaller investment will help you enjoy the sport in the long run. Then when you want, go nuts on the $300 stuff.
something around 100sq in and 10.4-10.8oz is probably a good place to be. You don't want something too light because you'll swing it too fast as you get better and get tennis elbow. Same thing can happen if its way too heavy. Head speed mid plus is a good stick. Babolat pure strike is solid as well. Both have good pop but aren't rocket launchers. String pattern should probably be 16x19, which is what most rackets are. Don't get an 18x20.
Any recs for a 4.5 player? I’ve had the Wilson Ultra Pro 97in for the last 4-5 years and I’m looking for something with a little more pop.
Have you messed around with lead tape or anything yet? Lots of people who use that frame customize it to play a little different. I think head makes a speed 18x20 which would probably have more pop than your wilson does. That ultra is a good stick for sure.
I personally think it is. Its hard to say though without seeing you swing. If you're athletic and pick the sport up quickly, I don't think you'll like a 107. But i'd pay more attention to weight in the beginning than head size. Anything under 10oz is definitely too light.
