PDX is of course highly under construction and the airside connector has been gone for a while and won't return for a while yet, which kinda sucks. SEATAC is just dreadful aside from Alaska's N Lounge, and even that doesn't quite save it imo. It just has miserable scale and crowding in the main concourses.
never had problems with pdx back when priority pass got you $28/per person at random shops and one right through security sold $28/bottles of wine you could get after you landed was an obscene deal. no wonder it went away.
This reminds me. It's absolute fucking bullshit that we have singular TSA checkpoints with lanes that have differing rules/procedures. The newer chromography scanners that allow for you to leave everything in the bag should be at every lane or none of them. And yea, I know, precheck, clear, whatever. The point stands.
Was there for a week two years ago. Stayed in an Airbnb in the karakoy neighborhood. Near the Galata tower. Blue mosque and grand bazaar are walking distance. Bunch of cafes and restaurants in the area. Can take ferry over to the Asian side. Istiklal rd in Beyoglu neighborhood with all the shops and food is nearby. Touristy street that’s for sure. Walk along the water up to the 15 July Martyrs bridge. Looks really cool at night. Just rambling stuff off as it pops into my head. Only issue is both airports are nowhere close to the city. And no train into the city from what I remember.
Siem Reap must have built something new because when I flew there in 2019 it was quite nice and modern.
In 2014 that certainly was not the case. It was basically an open-air thatched roof with a new ATM to pay for the on-arrival visa.
Yeah definitely new at some point between then. Also we did visa online before we left for our trip so they must have gotten technologically savvy as well
Reminds me of the Nepal visa on arrival process last month. I know I need $25 USD to purchase the visa. I only had $20 on me. Try to exchange Indian rupees for USD at the Mumbai airport. Nope. Guy says they can’t do that. OK. Arrive at Kathmandu airport. Complete application and walk over to the visa desk. Two Canadians in front of me try to pay with credit card. Guy says not accepted. Canadians point at the sign above their heads “VISA and Mastercard accepted.” Nope. They pay in Canadian dollars. I get to the front and tell the lady I have $20 USD and “this many Indian rupees” as I lay everything on the counter. “I can either give you this or pay with credit card.” Her and the guy working next to her start to do some currency conversion calculations. Take some of my Indian rupees and let me go. They weren’t pleased. Insane what I believe to be such an official transaction was basically completed through bartering and negotiation. Also, the ATM is 10 feet away and dispenses Nepalese rupees. Of course they don’t accept their own currency. Psycho stuff. Was almost left in Kathmandu visa purgatory.
Yea thankfully I arrive early in the morning and depart in the afternoon the next day so I should be able to see a good amount Beats a long layover. Switching flights was only 20 extra
Yep...distance was a factor Decided to make a day of it so I didn't have to worry about rushing back to the airport or storing luggage at the airport.
Had a first travel experience last night. There was steady rain in the Denver area, so we were warned that the climb out would be bumpy, then we were also having to fly around a bunch of storms in Oklahoma and the captain said she expected a turbulent descent. I think this freaked people out, and as we were taxiing to the runway (legitimately waiting in line to depart), a girl ran up to the flight attendants and I think she was having a panic attack. My wife could hear her saying “I’m not sure what’s wrong or why this is happening, I just have to get off the plane.” The crew actually handled it very well and at least got her calmed down enough to sit back down, but we turned around so that she could get off. Overall, wasn’t as huge of a delay as I expected, and even more surprisingly I didn’t hear any complaints or anything from other passengers. Many people were very complimentary of the flight attendant as we were finally deplaning in Tulsa too which was neat.
Well Aeromexico sucks. They've been cancelling multiple flights a day due to manpower Apparently. After 2 cancelled flights we made it. We've lost 2 days already. Hurricane Agatha has rolled in and the canyon has been closed the last 3 days. So we'll see. Hopefully it opens before we leave.
I had this happen one time except it was a guy who thought he booked a ticket to Rochester, NY and then was shocked when the pilots said Rochester, MN
Any Toronto recs in here? Going at the end of the month. Last thing I have to do is get a hotel, but I keep debating where I want to stay. Anything in the vicinity of downtown is expensive and anything affordable is out by the airport. We’ll have a rental car, so keep that in mind. Have a Blue Jays and Hamilton TigerCats game on the docket. Also going to do the Hockey Hall of Fame and whatever breweries, cheap local eats I can find.
Flying American through Phoenix to the big island on Thursday morning. What are the chances my flight gets fucked with?
Water refill stations would be nice. I always end up waiting in line to pay $20 to fill up the families water bottles.
TSA Pre used for first time today. Didn’t have to remove shoes, didn’t have to take laptop out of backpack, and got the short line, cool!
In Miami they still made me do all that shit. Got mad at me because I didn't put my kindle and my wireless keyboard in a different thing. At least there were literally only 3 other people going through security.
Flight to the Bahamas from FLL is at noon. Yesterday got a text and email from Silver saying flight cancelled. Airport website, Silvers website and flight aware all still show it as scheduled. Let’s hope we fly.
No idea. Not long 2-3 days. Spending the rest of the time up north around the Humboldt Redwoods state park area.
when in October? First weekend is Fleet Week which is fucking awesome, also you need to spend a day strolling thru Golden Gate Park
Flight cancelled. Staying at the Fontainebleau overnight. Chartered a flight for $1,750 total for 7 people tomorrow at noon from Miami.
What part of the Bahamas are you going to? We’ve gone to the Exumas a few times in recent years and love it.
Aeromexico is having staffing issues as well. Had 2 flights canceled and around 10 flights canceled both times I was there. Our taxi guy said it’s been like that for a few weeks. And they’re giving out an email for customer service issues instead of a number.
Ryan Air and other discount Euro carriers are also having issues. My wife has kind of made peace with her France trip Ina few weeks getting cancelled
