Oh thank goodness my Mac Mini can run the new MacOS. Looks like it might be on the chopping block for next year though. I wish I had known the Mac Mini was going to be the first computer to get the M1, would have waited a few months to buy the Mini I bought. Mini had always seemed like the lowest priority computer they had and then that gets the bump first. Surprised my iPad is still going to be able to get OS 16 seeing as how it was released in 2017. Though I barely use the thing so wouldn't have really made any difference.
It's not like you lose functionality if you dont have the latest updates. You can still run old OS and it will be fine, depending on what you use it for.
Yeah I know. I'm a nerd, I like having the most up to date OS rather I actually end up using any of the new features or not.
Apparently you’ll be able to customize a lot of the stuff on the watch face too like the font and what not. Really looking forward to rocking that one. Might even motivate me to upgrade so I can go back to having always on turned on. Disabled it a while back because my battery is down to like 75% now.
That’s the kind of first world shit you can get done in regular countries. USA is probably proprietary for life.
The benefit of having switched from Android to iPhone - already have a million. Thankfully I kept them since I have several other things that charge by USB-C. That's going to be a lot of lightning cables ending up in landfills though.
One Senator would mention it as an issue and he’d be lobbied into the dirt as a hater of innovation and the American spirit
I have to imagine we see the iPhone swap to usb c within a few years because of this. They aren’t going to manufacture two models and I would be surprised if the EU was ok with Apple shipping a dongle tk get around this requirement.
Agree with this. They are already on USB C for some of their portfolio anyway, so might as well complete the switch. On that note, I picked up an open box iPad Pro 12.9 for a pretty good price - this thing is so damn nice. Screen is insanely good, and as dumb as it is, the refresh rate makes scrolling the internet feel so much smoother.
agreed. bought an ipad mini recently and it's USB-C. i think part of the decision has been that USB-C needs a thicker phone, but they made the iphone 13 thicker than the 12 so it seems like the writing is on the wall. high refresh rate is a feature that feels so good but is pretty under the radar. it's great.
so I have a 10 year old mb pro and kind of tempted by the new m2 air. are the newer models pretty easy to swap out for a new ssd? $1500 for 512gb seems like a bit much, so thinking about just getting the smaller one and buying a new ssd separately. thought I remembered hearing a while back they kind of made the newer models difficult to do mods on that werent from factory.
I’m pretty sure I read that for the m1 models, at least, that there was some weird setup that prevented SSD upgrades, but I could be wrong.
It came back. It was not the hardware. Just did a full fdr and restore from backup. I’ll see if that takes care of it.
So every time I go to watch any Apple TV+ content it says it's not available in my region. Happens on my Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, Mac Mini, and even the web browser. Was on chat/call with Apple support for like 2 hours and they haven't been able to fix it
on the mac mini, open the appletv+ app on the menu, go to account>account settings I assume country/region is US? if so, just change it temporarily to another country, close out of it, then go back in and change it back to US (if it doesn't let you do that, then just ignore that)
ANd for the record, I canceled by Apple TV+ but it doesn't expire until JUne 20, so I would have to wait until after that I guess. The person on the call did say it's unusual for it not to list the region I am currently on at that screen. I think my Apple account may have gotten fucked up somehow.
What exactly is it do you want me to screenshot, this? I just canceled it to see if I could change the region but to no avail.
Are you on home Wi-Fi? Do you use any kind of vpn or proxy or anything? Does it do this on 4/5G or a different Wi-Fi?
Hadn't tried on cellular. It works on there even with my ad blocking VPN connected. But my brother is on my family sharing. I live with him. He uses the same wifi. It works for him on wifi.
so you guys share the same subscription but I assume are signed into different apple IDs? in that case there'd be an issue with the account itself, which if AppleCare doesn't have a reset in their support app to do it would have to be sent to engineering and your sub will expire before you get an answer
you can't applecare iTunes advisors have an app where they can see if they are issues and do resets in that
One of the calls I had earlier today indicated they think it could be because I was on the tVOS beta, which wasn't a problem earlier this month though. But also why would that effect being able to watch it through a browser, iPhone, etc.? Also, why would I be able to watch over data on my iPhone if it was a tvOS beta problem? Doesn't make much sense to me. Another tech support person called just now and said they would check with the App store team to see if they could cancel my TV+ account early to see if I can change the region as I won't be able to do it until the subscription is inactive. Looked into downgrading to the tvOS stable but can't do it with the 4K Apple TV due to lack of USB-C connection
Got transferred to the app store support to get it canceled early and this person is understandably so confused lol Apple Support (AS): What region are you in and what do you want to change it to? Me: USA and USA AS: ?? Me: Well I can't see what region my Apple account, not my iPhone but my Apple account, is even set to. So I won't know if it's set to the correct region until my ATV+ subscription is canceled.
your issue is definitely a bit convoluted but the fact that another apple id works on all the devices/networks tells me it's an account issue if you wanna test that further you can sign out of your apple id and sign in to your brother's on your device and see what that does
I'll hold off on doing that. If I connect a beta tvOS device to his account and the beta is the cause then I might mess up his account.
My Apple Watch battery life literally just within the last week has gone to complete shit. If I don't charge it midway thru the day there is a near 0% chance it will last me to bedtime to charge overnight. This is with having disabled always on and several other things to extend battery life. Should I try holding off until the new model is released in presumably September or go ahead and pull the trigger on the current model?
Probably due for a battery replacement anyways. Last I checked was several weeks ago and the battery health was down to like 81%
