Hope your process goes smoother than mine. Nothing major but just the subs not being considerate of our property. Pavers are supposed to be delivered this week so hopefully we’ll be done soon.

That’s gonna be a narrow ass pool. For a deck that nice, a standard 28-14 rectangle is going to feel lacking. Imo your best bet is to start from scratch. If not, you are gonna spend a shit ton of money on a pool that you will always feel wasn’t enough to save a 10k deck.

Sorry. I figured that's not the answer you wanted, but if you are going to spend 7-10x what you spent on the deck for the pool, that has to take priority.

My other thought was a free form shape that kind of wraps around to provide more deck space. Again, not married to the fire pit but I do like it a lot and would hate to lose it. My hunch is that the pool designers will agree with you, but it’s worth a discussion I guess.

It's not a bad idea, and it doesn't cost you money to explore ways to try and save it, but the biggest hurdle you are going to have is finding pavers that match your current ones. Even if you find more of the exact kind, they are going to be a different shade of grey.

IMO your best bet is to reuse the fire pit itself but realize that you are gonna have to change the design and pavers.

any tips on dealing with an algae bloom?

guy at the pool store just recommended dumping in a bottle of yellow out, then add 12 bags of shock in 4 bag intervals over the next 12-15 hours and then adding a bottle of conditioner at the end of that cycle. 12 bags of shock just seems like a lot but I know nothing.

Make sure your pool filter is filtering. Whatever you do will not hold for long if the filter is bypassing debris.

12 bags of shock is relative. I dumped 25lbs in a pool today to finish off a treatment and last steps of getting this guys pool from green to clean. I made a special exception for this customer that has his ranch pool 1.5 hours away. I actually did cleaning for him.

I pound of shock for every 10k gallons for a regular shock treatment. This pool is about 50k gallons. For a normal algae bloom I normally would do 5x the regular amount. With yellow-trine or yellow out, that shit burns up algae like nothing else. If your pool is more than 20k gallons, I would say use more. You might think that is wasteful but if you don’t use enough, whatever you did use is wasted.

Next post is exactly what I would do to get rid of algae bloom.

    1. Brush entire algae bloom with stainless steel algae brush, including all walls, steps and ledges. Floor not required unless algae on floor. This also assumes a plaster finish. Please do not brush a vinyl-lined or fiberglass pool with steel algae brush.

    2. Add shock at 5x regular dosage. Do so by getting a 5 gallon bucket and filling 2/3 with water. Then add shock and stir well. Pour around perimeter slowly and you will get to more granular that is not dissolved. Add more water to bucket and stir. Repeat until done

    3. Add algae specific agent, if required.

    4. Let pool circulate for 3-4 hours. Shut pump off. Clean filter if DE or cartridge. If sand filter, offer up a prayer to your favorite deity or vibe. Leave pump off.

    5. Check pool and chlorine in ~24 hours. If pool is clear, start up and system vacuum debris out of pool. If a lot of dead algae, you may need to clean filter again after cleanup. If DE or sand filter, you may have to backwash several times throughout the vacuuming process.

For reference, pool above required filter clean before. Backwashing 5 times while vacuuming. And a filter clean afterwards.

blind dog has a routine down.

He will text me: “heater does not work.” He goes beyond though and sends me a picture of his heater.

I text him: “call me when you are at your house and available to test heater.”

A week will go by. He will text me again: “heater still not working.” And then will send a picture of a dog by his heater and say “I saw this dog, do you think it has anything to do with it?”

I text him: “still waiting on that phone call, can’t tell you anything from a picture of a heater, a heater and dog, and you saying it will not work.”

Another week goes by, he texts me: “hey, can you help me with the heater, have a big thing tonight?” (it is him getting laid, that is always the big thing)

my response: “probably could have had it working 2 weeks ago if you would ever call. Still do not have the info needed.”

    him: “fine I’ll call”

Fast forward 10 minutes after he calls and I am talking him through diagnosing the heater, the heater fires right up with no issues whatsoever.

a.tramp is giving you good advice. I’ll contribute that you do not want to add conditioner just because when you’ve completed. Test the water & go from there. No reason to ever have cya over 40ppm

how much does direct sunlight impact the chemicals that need to go in?

My neighbor never has to do anything to his pool while I'm adding shit every week. But he gets 0 hours of direct sunlight and while I get 10 hours

It plays a role in residual sanitizer in the water & it’s best to add in evening. How long to you run the system daily? What are your weekly additions? Do you shock & add an algaecide every week?

It should not. If you’re using tabs you will get additional cya from them, but when it gets too high you can run into chlorine lock & you’ll find yourself needing to add a large amount of shock again to free it up to actually sanitize your pool.

I always tell people about running their system that it’s a pay me now or pay me later situation. You can run it 10 hours a day and pay me later when you get a bloom going or pay a few extra $ a month & run it 24/7.
I always recommend shocking once a week and after any major storm or large usage event. Don’t worry about your daily 30 min storm, but shock or boost(salt generation) after a big one.
Use a weekly algaecide as well. A bottle will last you considering the size of the average pool in FL, but make sure it a blend or at least 50% if not.

dblplay1212 here is a “grotto” that never gets cleaned due to can only access from water as well as a slide that has not been operational in years.

I know your designs allowed for more access to seating area than this does but same concept applies, just not as dramatic.

And yeah, old cleaning company just got fired and new cleaning company starts today.

Help some. Biggest problem is the floor. Get you some jets to keep the floor stirred up in the area and then you have a stew going.
