Texting my mom while I'm watching the stream of 2/3rds softball game (mom is there and 2/3 is pitching)
Lil man wiped out on his e board yesterday and essentially got road rash up his entire right side as thankfully despite me telling him not to wore a wife beater out. so for those keeping score at home in the last year he has: been hit by a drone in the leg resulting in staples Broke his elbow falling off his bike Broke his elbow again getting hit by a pitch Ate asphalt going 26mph on an eboard been caught in the shower with his gf Just an amazing past year. Thankfully he gets his drivers license in 7 months because I know nothing can go wrong there.
He lifts damn near every day. He’s built like his mother. He’s lanky af and eats literally all day and never gains an ounce.
That hair is absurd. I know its all the rage with the kids these days and I’m an old now… but it’s bad hair
It looks like he has bad taxidermy on his head but if he takes after me he has like 10 more years of hair so I let him do what he wants now.
Looks like my oldest has my wife’s hypermobile joints so here’s looking forward to multiple knee surgeries
9 month old boy hospitalized overnight for some noisy breathing. He's doing ok. Had a bronch this morning which was pretty reassuring. "Momma's at the hospital with sammy cuz he's kinda sick. But he's ok. They're taking really good care of him and he'll be home soon. What questions do you have?" 3 y.o. daughter: "Can we listen to The Heat is On by Glenn Fry?"
Took the kids (9 & 7) bowling today. They were feeling pretty confident heading in, but they wound up learning a lesson in humility.
Watched the Neverending Story last night and little man loved it. Was hooked from about 5 minutes in.
Any recommendations for a tablet for a flight for a kid? We may have two flights to California fairly soon and I was looking at something to keep my 2 year old from losing his mind. Thought about an iPad but I figured there would be a more effective solution with a decent battery life. Any suggestions?
We bought an iPad mini. I didn’t want to deal with some cheap piece of shit that I toss in two years just so I can save a couple hundred bucks. And it fits nicely into my existing Apple ecosystem.
Ipad is great. I tried to switch my kid from ipad to a kids fire tablet and man that thing was a complete piece of shit compared to ipad. He probably wouldn’t have cared if he never knew an ipad but it was too late for that.
We did iPad just because we had one that still worked but was kind of outdated for every day use. Restored factory defaults and cleared up all available memory and not it is just solely Levi’s traveling pad.
Wound up just upgrading from a shitty Fire Tablet to an iPad last week for my 5 year old. Problem is that it seems like even the same apps on the iPad now aren't completely free which pisses me off, every single kids app either costs several dollars or the nicer ones try to actually get you to purchase a monthly subscription. A crappy tracing Pinkfong app that was free on Fire costs like $5 to unlock on iOS.
THF Just get an iPad. We bought a kindle for my son years ago and it's a total piece of shit. Freezes up all the time. zero battery life. Takes forever to charge. but it was cheap! one night i was frustrated with it and went and got an iPad at Target. It's awesome. integrates with my phone and I use it as a streaming monitor at work to watch TV. My kids only use it for long car rides. It's awesome. Giving them a tablet out in public is not an option.
The good thing right now is that thankfully my kid doesn't seem to be anywhere addicted to it, if anything she could actually spend a little more time on it. The downside is that she thinks my wife and I are her siblings that we're basically her playmates whenever we're at home and she won't take no for an answer, I was legit emotionally worn the fuck out this past Monday from just a regular two day weekend. I hope her strong personality comes out in better ways when she's older, but I'm an introvert and only have so energy to give her my undivided attention over many hours.
This is me. As an introvert, I have to have uninterrupted downtime. Impossible during the week. And I feel like a shitty parent if I try to take some on the weekend.
Haven't bothered with Guided Access but rather set the kid up with her own Apple account and just locked down the entire ipad.
Where do you guys stand on vacation once you start kindergarten? i was thinking of taking the family on a beach trip around labor day and it just hit me that my kid will be in kindergarten. does it matter if he skips a few days? I personally don't think it does but thinking the teachers will probably say otherwise.
1) My kids (1st grade and pre-k) are given like 10 remote learning days a year. The teacher has “work” packets for these days. 2) Any teacher with a remote understanding of how the real world works won’t give a fuck. 3) Take the kids on vacation.
How did he handle Artax dying? Even I fast forward that part still. For the longest time that was the saddest movie scene to me.
I really like the closed Amazon Kids system where he can browse, easily watch kids shows, and whatever without much hassle. But the game quality really sucks compared to even average iPad ones. That said, he (age 5) loves it.
That is true, mostly games are pretty crappy. I think another important consideration is how old is your kid and can they have nice things. The fire comes with a good case and if my two year old somehow breaks it, oh well.
Certainly get the logic behind going for an iPad mini out of the gates, but the Kindle Fire Kids Edition we picked up for our kid when he was 1.5 held up fine during flights from Cal to DFW a couple different times and does it’s job as a Blippi machine when needed on a regular basis. Still fine 1+ years into using it. Im in no hurry to replace it but will buy a normal tablet next round or give him a hand me down
There isn't really a comparison for Amazon Kids+ right for iPad? A platform just for kids to browse kids stuff? I get only downloading apps they can use but I like how on Amazon he can also access certain Prime shows straight through the Kids+ experience. It's really hands off and also really easy to block certain content.
There’s YouTube kids. Amazon videos kids. You can restrict the age rating of apps they can download, or can even make the app store inaccessible.
Right I know about the App Store restrictions I was more thinking of being hands off. Amazon video kids can help
Pretty sure 5 year old has the flu. High fever and minor chills and aches. Just gotta ride it out I guess but hate watching him although he’s Actually pretty happy generally. Now we just have to make a call by Tuesday if we are keeping a staycation hotel stay for next weekend.
Little man just got over a double ear infection and now has some respiratory virus thats causing him to labor breathing. Responding well to breathing treatments which is good.
The last week had been miserable for my wife and I. We both got Covid so we have barely held our son. Been in a mask at all times and took turns sleeping on the couch so he wasn’t so close to us. Luckily our son has shown zero signs of being sick but i just want to hold and snuggle my baby but can’t.
