Alright, all but formalities and I’ll be in Tampa last week of July or first of August. Working on east southern side of Tampa. I’m from Sarasota so I don’t know the in’s and outs but any recs on a place to live I’d really appreciate. Monthly rent I’d like to stay $2300/ per month or under. Also I’m sorry, I’m sure a lot of posters have asked this same thing.

    So Brandon then?

I would say live as close to downtown Tampa as you can honestly. You don't have to worry about schools, so Seminole Heights would be nice. Hyde Park, North Hyde Park, South Tampa, West Tampa etc. puts you within a short drive/uber of everything you would want to do besides the beach.

Whether you can find something in those areas in your price range, I have no idea.

Awesome thanks man. Yeah I guess I’d consider it right near Brandon, my bad. I don’t mind a little further drive to be near downtown.

Just don't live in Bandon. it'll be tempting for the shorter commute, but you'll hate it.

Brandon is terrible to live. I concur with Hank on those locations, but if your budget is 2300 a month, those Hyde Park areas are going to be very difficult, pretty much anything downtown will be really. I really like the Seminole heights area. Old Florida feel and has come character compared to the newer neighborhoods that are all basically cookie cutter houses. They are also doing a major Gentrification around the Ybor area... don't get me wrong, its about 10 years out from being a decent spot but if you don't mind some trash living near you and want a property that will skyrocket in value over the next 5-10 years, it wouldn't be a terrible investment.

Good points. In all reality I could push my limit up a good amount. Just want to make the best decision socially, financially and a place I don’t hate.

Edit: I should add I’ll be doing the apartment thing for a year or so before I buy a home. As long as rent isn’t $4k I’ll be fine. Thanks guys.

Buy my house in Seminole Heights. I candidly wouldn’t buy in this market, but we just listed.

You could pretty easily live near downtown for $3k a month.

My in laws invited us after my daughter's dance recital and I hesitantly accepted, but is there a more overrated spot in all of Tampa/St. Pete than Miguel's? It's got great reviews, and always seems to be crowded because of them, but it's always had bad service, bland food, etc, and tonight was no different. Maybe it's because I'm bougie on my Mexican food because I grew up with great spots everywhere, but for a semi major city, Tampa severely lacks in that culinary area.

I agree, but for decades now the best Mexican and Cuban spots near here have always been hole in the wall type places. Your good ambience/good drink locations are usually weak on food.

Better Cuban restaurants, especially in Tampa and South Florida.

That being said, I have always had a good meal at Miguel's. Parking is a bitch though.

Miguels is fine. It's better than the typical low end Mexican food everyone has everywhere. However, it is much more expensive and not significantly better.

Love Casa Tina, the queso is fantastic. Speaking of Dunedin, just went to Black Pearl last week for the wifes birthday. Was phenomenal, highly recommend.

Agree to disagree. I’m not saying it’s four star but it’s better than most Mexican food around that area.

I said what I said... I know its a chain and its Tex-Mex, but I like it.

I haven't been able to find a decent Mexican restaurant other than Mega Mercado in Lakeland (its legit a restaurant in a mexican super market) thats real traditional mexican food.

I'm spoiled though and travel to Tijuana on a monthly basis so nothing is going to be that great...

scooters are no different than a bike imo. need to be super defensive riding anywhere with heavy traffic. Bayshore is super unsafe on the residential side.

Officially starting August 8th. I should probably find an apartment lol. So nobody thinks living east of the city is a good idea? Is channel side a good option?

Yeah, Channelside is fine. Downtown Tampa has had a major glow up in the last 5yrs. Don't live east of Ybor.

it depends where you are at as far as desire to go out a lot or not . It’s suburbia, you could always try it and if you hate it move to South Tampa later or the other suggestions. and it will be cheaper. Orlando it seems people will live all over but Tampa you get more neighborhood arrogance

At the end of my street. Pretty good food. Get it a few times a month to go. Idk how authentic it is.

Rene’s and ranchero tacos are outstanding

Ranchero is phenomenal. I’ve stopped going to Rene’s ever since he jacked his burrito prices up to $15, but it is also so good.

Work in the area and live in south Tampa, it’s not a bad commute and against the flow of traffic.

One of my college friends moved out to Colorado after graduation (2007). Decided to move to Tampa (his home town) 6 or 7 years ago for a promotion. Bought a beautiful house in Seminole Heights. I don't think he lasted 2 years before taking a paycut to move back.
