Ryen making fun of "How valuable can Mike Trout be if they still only win 75 games?" guy only for Bill to do that exact take again unironically right after was tremendous. Also from the inventor of the "Kyle Pitts's floor is Travis Kelce" take comes "Chet Holmgren's worst case scenario is he's Al Horford!"
need some other #Portland Trail Blazers guys to weigh in but i'm pretty sure RR was implying that antifa has destroyed Portland when talking about it being more attractive as a city to NBAers than SLC/Utah
Idk about antifa specifically but he was definitely talking about the protests and whatnot over the past few years What's funny is that the players typically don't live downtown anyway
didn't Trent Dilfer do an appearance on Russillo's show basically saying the Pac 12 can't recruit because of the vaccine?
what's really funny is that he would think these minor protests make a city like Portland less ideal than SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH to an average NBA free agent not that either of these cities are attractive in that way, but that's hilarious
when Russillo eventually takes more money in free agency from Barstool I hope we get his actual unfiltered thoughts on Simmons. I'm sure he respects Bill's business side but I'd imagine he thinks Bill is an absolute fucking idiot when it comes to sports knowledge
I think he respect's Bill's basketball history knowledge, his "team building" ideas and philosophy but absolutely has zero respect for his Xs and Os and scouting takes.
Why would someone hire Russillo for sports knowledge? I've never heard Ryen Russillo say one single thing about any sport that I actually learned something from.
"Finals Unicorn seg was the apex mountain of vagueness" was a great reddit comment. Like Giannis and Lebron are finals unicorns. But not Kobe or Dwade. they were impersonating MJ, who isn't a unicorn. wut
He actually breaks down bball pretty well. Either you are a professional scout/coach/former D1 level player or a hater. When it comes to football he is a moron.
No he’s def bitter about not being a college athlete. He told some story about how him and his friends made fun of the bball team after a loss, and a player basically said his life was still better than RR’s in every way. It cut deep.
I've actually liked Russillo in the limited times I've listened to him, but hearing the way people talk about him -- or hearing the way he talks about himself -- makes me want to wish failure upon him.
I never listened to him on ESPN since I was never in the car when he was on but I enjoy his podcasts for the most part. Doesn’t seem like a bad guy. I listen to his podcast way more than Bill’s and he’s great on The Rewatcheables.
He thinks staying up till 10:30 alone taking notes on TWolves vs Kings is what gives him an “edge” on his competition when in reality it’s just a cope for the fact he’s 40+ and alone despite being a successful guy
I mean it’s kind of sad. Guy got burned and never seemed to get passed it. I don’t see it as a reason he’s a loser but to each his own.
idk if I’d call him a loser but he definitely has an underserved arrogance over everybody in his field. He’s the “cool girl” archetype in sports broadcaster form. You can tell how much the approval of pro athletes means to him.
That I can agree with and like I said there is an ego usually with people at that level of sports media. He just doesn’t seem like bad guy to me and I like a lot if his guests and his dynamic with Ceruti.
His jokes can be about as dry and deadpan as anyone I’ve heard on a podcast. They’re actually a little too deep cut bc they often go over ppls heads — always Bill, bc he’s honestly an airhead. I like RR in doses and have found myself listening to him more than Simmons (unless I like the Rewatchables episode).
Imagine going to a small college, attending the baseball game, and the shitting on the players. Probably the type of psycho who winds up in sports media so I guess it all tracks.
And meh, I listen to most of his podcasts so it's not like I hate the guy. It's just kind of funny to me how he will talk with disdain about the bro culture in sports media when he has a lot of those personality traits himself
Hopefully this will stop his borderline creepy Kobe obsession that the media types are eating up. “Tatum wiped his ass with the EXACT brand of toilet paper that Kobe did before game 5 in 2009 “
i mean the guy was throwing up bricks left and right for almost half the season before he caught fire in Jan is it really that surprising he’s going 8-23 every night in the finals?
I realize the point of these podcasts is to react to the most recent results and that's why I listen to them Tatum is still one of the best players in the league and he's 24. I think he's going to be ok, regardless of whether he's a "superstar" right now or not.
Listening to the pod, I could not disagree more with the Russillo/Simmons premise that what Tatum needs to do is lean more into contact to draw fouls. I think that's his entire problem in this series, and often his problem when I see him missing shots. You're 6'10" and more athletic than anyone on the floor for GS. Just fucking go up and make a layup instead of doing belly flops into four dudes who are 2+ inches shorter than you trying to draw fouls.
The Boston sports fetish is he got taller bc he was only 15 when he entered the league. So now he’s super tall.
