With Monday being a holiday and the week after being the last of the term I’d expect the Roe ruling to formally come down that last week of the month so the court can run and hide immediately after, hoping people calm down.

You're not wrong but that's such a coward's way out. If your decision is that bad that you have to run and hide so people can calm down then maybe it's the wrong decision.

Seems logically like that would require those schools receiving public funding would then not be allowed to discriminate, but we all know that's not going to happen.

Addressing the emphasis on "government neutrality" in a dissent by Justice Stephen Breyer, Roberts wrote that "there is nothing neutral about Maine's program."

"The state" he said, "pays for tuition for certain students at private schools -- so long as they are not religious."

"That is discrimination against religion," Roberts said.

"Maine's administration of that benefit is subject to the free exercise principles governing any such public benefit program — including the prohibition on denying the benefit based on a recipient's religious exercise."

Don't understand why this needed a new opinion anyway, and didn't fit under that Trinity Lutheran decision a few years back. Seems like the same principle.

That wasn't the nuance. The nuance is that they don't have to provide any assistance if they're not given assistance to other private schools. It's just if you are giving assistant to students of secular private schools, you're going to have to for religious as well. Seems like a pretty easy solution is to not fund private education at all.

So how is this Maine tuition assistance thing different from here in VA tuition assistance grant that, as far as I'm aware, can go to any college in the state?

I think if someone is given assistance for private school tuition they should be able to choose which school to use it on.

I would also guess some people use government assistance to donate to their church, whether directly (funds from a stimulus) or indirectly (money saved from food vouchers). While I do not agree with that choice, it is still their choice.

Another choice I would not agree with is someone using assistance to buy drugs and alcohol, or big screen TVs, or some other luxury, but it is still their choice.

Of course they'll continue to incorporate it. They can use it to discriminate against non-Christian faiths then legal babble their way around not applying it to Christianity anyway
