I also bought too big of a tv for the location for it to remotely be plausible as an art piece so that may be part of the problem.

I said earlier in this thread, but I bought the Frame TV and had it for two days before I went back to Best Buy and bought the LG 77" G1. The pictures arent even comparable. The Frame was terrible. The LG was a lot more money, but it sits just as flush on the wall and is a much better picture.

One thing I notice is that my picture on Netflix is better than on my cable. Does U-Verse not have 4k yet or wtf?

Very little US tv is in 4k. Like occasional sporting events and such, hell the super bowl wasn’t even offered in 4k this year.

When I was in the store the sales guy was pitching me on 8k and a random customer asked me if I was a gamer or not and when I said no he told me I'd be an idiot to get an 8k TV.

I have no idea the accuracy of this or full reasoning but that sales rep was fucking livid with the Debbie downer

8k doesn’t exist at home yet except for some demo stuff and some YouTube stuff. Unless you’re an early adopter there is no reason for it…yet. Most big movies aren’t even finished in 4k yet let alone 8k because of limitations in computer effects and file sizes. It’s why if you get into 4k blu ray a lot of old movies are best because the source is 35mm.

4k/8k also loses some value at smaller screen sizes, human eyes are only so good.

vizio or LG OLED. It’ll be more on the “or so” side but you’ll thank me later

I think last year’s LG OLEDs can be had for pretty good prices right now. It might be a tad more than you want to spend but the 65” C1 is an amazing TV (which I own and can confirm) and is $1696 at Amazon right now. The 55” is about $1K.

Also, I’m intrigued by the LG QNED90 Mini LED. Many people don’t like that OLED doesn’t get all that bright, so some people would prefer LED, and you’d still get all of the top end features for gaming and whatnot that you would with a C1/G1 (or the new C2/G2). The 65” QNED is $1396 at Amazon.

For what you will spend on a good outdoor TV, just buy a cheap TCL and replace when it breaks.

Keeps you up to date on latest technology for a fraction of the cost

Yeah... I spent too much for a 65" set 6 or 7 years ago. Now it still works as well as ever, but that standard is decidedly subpar. The TCL I put in the bedroom 1-2 years ago is much better, and neither is as good as what I could get for < $1k today.

Yea I didn't really have the option for this - it was for pool cabanas where people spray champagne and shit so I can't imagine how many tvs I'd be going through/year.

This, my neighbor has an outdoor TV above a fireplace in humid South Florida and each TV lasts about 2 years before it starts to go bad. He's got money to burn so he buys high end TVs to replace each time, but he's still spending less and getting better quality if he had bought one of those $6k outdoor TVs.

Key to an outdoor tv is just picking low glare model and getting a really good weatherproof cover off amazon.

My folks are wanting to purchase a 65" TV. I'm gonna buy it with my card so I can get points and help hit my minimum spend. I have a Costco membership so thinking about getting a 65" OLED. My parents insist on Samsung but I have an LG OLED and love it. Specific suggestions?

How much you looking to spend? Can’t go wrong with either LG or Samsung, but Costco doesn’t carry the top of the line models for either brand.

They didn't give a price and while they probably aren't looking to spend top dollar, they would spend enough to get a great TV.

Doesn't have to be Costco I guess since I'm gonna use the Venture X card but figured there's gotta be a good deal around Memorial Day.

That's a large discount/great price. For $1050, that will be very hard to beat. Checks pretty much every major box.

I would say only continue searching if you really care about
extreme fidelity (e.g. 4k blu ray movies)
form factor (e.g. zero gap mount)
or some feature on other TVs (like gallery/art mode)

It sits unplugged now but the 42" Panasonic plasma I got in 2007 is still going strong, it's probably the best looking non 4k tv I own.

I've got a 52" Samsung from about 2009 that still does great. It was 1080 when seems like nobody I knew had anything near that size in anything more than 720.

Got a 55" Samsung in the Great Walmart Pricing Glitch of aught 13. Got two for 710 dollars total and flipped one for 750. Still works great but I always found its smart features clunky so I disabled internet on it a while ago, which may have helped.

Also just brought in a head tv in waiting. Got a Hisense U7G and the picture is gorgeous.

Wasn’t sure where else to pose this, but does anyone have a wall mount they used for a brick wall that they recommend (or not)? Putting one up on the patio and am a little miffed by the options and lack of clarity.

Iirc I don’t think the actual tv mount matters as much as having the right bolt/hardware does but this is an assumption
