Tesla mobile service has been so good to me over the last two years. But damn… the actual service centers suck every time I’ve been (only twice).

Paid $50 for a mobile tech to come do a tire rotation at my home. I’d honestly pay more.

Bought some new tires less than two months ago and got a flat yesterday running over a screw somewhere. At the Discount Tire getting it replaced under warranty and another customer who, let's just say probably isn't who I thought would be that interested into electric vehicles, was very eager to talk about my Chevy Bolt and the mileage I get.

Trying to do my part to convert the masses. Also it's crazy how good the service is at Discount Tire, even if they overcharge on tire prices. They are nice but more importantly super damn quick at what they do, they do not screw around getting you in and out.

Did you get an EV-specific tire?

You’d be surprised who is interested in EVs. People have their own motives. Yours may be environmental. Others may be financial or performance. Whatever works to drive adoption. But also I kind of don’t want Elon superchuds in my club.

I had a chud at work ask me if I drove my Model S like an EV, and I told him I drove it like I would any other car. His “gotcha” was that anyone driving an EV to reduce oil consumption must also drive as conservative as possible to reduce total energy consumption. I can’t with some of these people.

I have experienced some of the same interest about mine from people that I would never have expected to ask about it.

Ordered 9/21, locked 10/21. Originally they said we'd get it January-March, then right after Thanksgiving they sent out a mass email to those of us who ordered about that time that CONGRATULATIONS we'd be getting a MY2022 instead of a MY2021, with extended range (270mi.) and slightly faster charging, and we'd be getting it sometime in mid-2022 yippee.

VW got hammered by chip shortages, then the Ukraine war interrupted their supply chain for wiring harnesses. They also had a ship carrier catch fire in February and lost a bunch of ID.4s. To my knowledge not many 2022s have been delivered to customers yet; VW seems to be holding them at port so they can do a major software upgrade (software/infotainment has been a huge problem) before releasing them to dealers. Their port storage is overloaded because of this, so they're trying to do a temporary patch so they can get the cars out of port. We're looking at sometime in the next month for delivery, from what the VW people are telling us.

VW is seriously ramping up production to meet the unexpected demand - Chattanooga is supposed to start pumping them out in July, and I think they started making them in Emden in addition to Zwickau. VW says that all 2022s are sold out now, but some are still trickling in to dealers and can be had for a $5-10k markup, depending on whether you want RWD or AWD (two neighbors have paid extra and absolutely love them). If you order and lock now, you're probably looking at early 2023, a 7-8 month wait.

I drive much more aggressively in the LEAF than I ever did in the Odyssey, and I still get 3.8mi/kWh, for about $.06/mile. At current local fuel prices, my Odyssey costs about $.38/mile.

Are there more EV minivans that have come to market? I’m not in that demographic so maybe I’ve just looked past any releases but that seems like a really big market to be ignoring

I wonder how the Ariya is gonna be received by the masses once it rolls out. I like the looks and features.
Nissan has 3 new EVs that are gonna be produced in Canton as well. We haven't been told much other than one is a Nissan sedan and the other an Infiniti sedan.

No, just regular Yokohama tires. The guy I was talking to seemed like he was getting more annoyed with gas prices and I said how it's a very very solid commuter car since you get better mileage from all the regenerative breaking in a city.

Very helpful, thank you! 7-8 months on a 2023 wouldn't be bad, I imagine they could be even shorter if Chattanooga gets rolling more quickly. I imagine we should get 2023 release dates soon, I'd love to put an order in around Labor Day or early October.

when buying an EV, buyers VASTLY overestimate how many road trips they actually take in real day to day life.

Similar to how male Americans overly rationalize the need for a truck. Both road-trip adventures and home DIY projects are aspirational. In reality most people are just shuffling back and forth from suburb to office park. You don’t need much range, especially if you live in an area with good fast charging infrastructure.

Rivian has responded to a lot of Kyle’s critiques with almost instant over the air software updates. They’re definitely learning but I wouldn’t discount their ability to get up to speed quickly. And conversely, Ford and GM have had their share of problems with electrification transition. Both Bolt and now Mach-E having battery issues.

I just stopped at the dealer in town that has an F150 lighting pro to check it out and he told me with a straight face that they are asking +25 so it’s 67k. For the Pro. Lmao. I guess there’s a chance someone bites, but it’s a long, long shot. Waiting for it to get back to take it on a test drive.

Any Bolt or Bolt EUV owners in here? I’m considering getting an EUV with the price drop recently announced. It’d just be for going around town, when the wife shops etc. but I’m worried about the size. We’ve got one child and another on the way.

So initial thoughts on the F150L Pro
First thing I noticed is that I really is a base truck. No adaptive cruise, SXM, and lack of seat adjustment options really stood out. The vinyl was actually not bad. Some of the plastic felt cheap.
Cab space was good. One major question was how dogs and car seats would do. Plenty of room compared to what I work with now. Lots of power ports. Frunk was awesome. Drove as expected, and I liked the ride. Screen wasn’t too bad. Great for a standard truck. Smaller than the 15” I’m used to. Efficiency seems decent.

If it was MSRP I’d consider being less of a prissy bitch about the comfort/convenience features. It does have wireless apple and android. Nav and EV features are all there. After driving it I’m 100% down for one at MSRP, would need to weigh trims again.

FWIW the Nissan Leaf is a pretty good deal too, and slightly larger interior. Lower range, but that's not a big deal for in-town driving.

I have a 2019 Bolt. It's fine for the three of us, me, my wife, and daughter. I think going on a road trip with lots of stuff with four of you it might be a little tight, definitely much more of a commuter car.

So my electrician’s dad is the fleet sales manager at this dealer. Don’t know the dad at all, or the guy super well. He’s worked in my and my neighbors and parents houses probably round 10 times in total, so we’re friendly. My first job for him was the EV plug and he’s interested in EVs. Anyway, he happened to be working at my neighbor’s house and I ran into him in the driveway and I mentioned the truck stuff and his first reaction was sticker shocked and said he hadn’t heard from his dad about them. He just texted me and said they sold one at that ask to someone out of Texas last night or this morning. Jesus.

Pretty sure that's not legal in the US. They'll have to put normal side mirrors if they want to sell it here which imo is probably for the best. Really seems like the benefit of .1 better mpg isn't worth the risk of that tech failing.

with my model 3, I just use the screen to run cameras constantly and never use my mirrors

it's something that seems weird, but you adjust to it and it ends up being a better scenario

with the hyundai being a camera in the same spot as the mirrors, i'd bet there is almost zero adjusting needing on the driver's end

Family member in Florida finally got his ford bronco delivered after 2 years of waiting. Paid $45k for it. He locked in that price when he put down a deposit.

When he went to go pick it up, they had an identically equipped bronco in the showroom with a sticker of $90k. Was told it was due to lack of supply and some other bullshit. Was also told they had already sold 6 at that price and would happily buy his off of him for $50k.

Dealers are gouging people, and people don’t seem to mind because we’ve become a society of “I want it and I want it now” morons
