i completely forgot there were two diff types of currency in MUT. no way i touch the UT mode in NCAA. I'll be in at least 2 dynasty modes though
They get a lot of shit because MUT is the only game mode they seem to give a shit about improving. They've managed to make the Connected Franchise Mode worse over the past two years. To the point where they updated the scouting system and it made every single online franchise that started pre-update freeze in the year 2 draft. We had to restart our league after spending ~3 months investing time into building a team
it is easy to ignore UT. But it is also easy for EA Sports to focus all their time on UT. Which sucks.
I haven't read the thread but here's my hot take. Game is going to suck absolute balls. In the words of the great Mac Miller It ain't 2009 no more Yeah, I know what's behind that door And what's behind this door is a hardly playable video game where people pay $60 to be allowed to spend loads more money in the game to have a half workable game. In a way, it was probably better to leave it in the grave so we could preserve our good memories. But EA will get a few good years out of the sales while people try to relive the nostalgia of their HS/College days until they get fed up with the bullshit. So good for them I suppose.
Gonna be a reskin if the previous Madden engine like it always was and I'm going to spend an unhealthy amount of time playing it
Haven’t played sports games since NCAA ceased to exist. Have developers really focused more on ‘ultimate team’ than improvement of gameplay/making a better product? Sounds like the sports gaming market needs more competition.
Yeah they have. Because you only have to pay the one-time cost of the game for the regular gameplay. Ultimate team allows them to continuously profit from that same person again and again. There’s all kinds of stuff online detailing how much some people have spent. It’s not uncommon for people to spend hundreds of dollars on their Madden Ultimate Team. Even saw once where a kid spent upwards of five thousand dollars to try to get specific players on FIFA Ultimate Team. Reaction videos to opening the packs (on FIFA especially) have become pretty popular. So most sports games with yearly installments are basically the same as the previous year as far as gameplay with maybe a tweak here or there every other year.
So, basically there is no incentive to improve the game. Hope there are competing developers who pop out of the woodwork.
But it can’t be a complete copy of dynasty mode from 2014. Which it sounds like EAs main focus is UT at this point.
I've gotten the last three Fifa games and in that time frame they haven't even fixed the quirky postgame interview bugs that a junior developer could seemingly address
It’s plagued Madden and FIFA for 10+ years now. It also doesn’t help that EA has no competition in sight.
They potentially do with FIFA now at least. FIFA decided not to renew their license deal with EA to continue the most popular and profitable sports game in the world. They are now going to try to partner with other gaming companies to make the game themselves so they can make more money. FIFA doing dumb shit because of greed, shocker. EA’s next version will be called EA FC or something like that. And FIFA (as we knew it) will now likely be shit. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/fifa-soccer-video-game-ea-sports-license/#app
i dont think they need competition. they're actively looking for someone to buy the company. the problem will work itself out one way or another.
Tournament mode on I think it was FIFA 20 never worked. There was a glitch and it would let you create one but then would crash the game when you tried to save it. They never fixed it, there was a thread on EA forums with EA help that started in October, a couple weeks after released and went until at least the following Summer.
FIFA is already shit and they’ve already got competition. Konami makes a soccer game with a decent number of real clubs under contract and it’s even worse than FIFA
Sure, but it’s all relative. FIFA isn’t as good as it should be, but it is and has been the best of the bunch. So it becomes the default option. Yeah I definitely agree Konami’s PES (or E-Football I think it’s called now) wasn’t good at all. Granted I only tried it once a few years ago and never wasted money on it again. So not sure if it’s improved. I’ve seen that it’s really only popular for the phone/iPad version. Regardless of how we individually rate FIFA (the game), I think it’s safe to say, that FIFA’s (the organization) decision to part with EA will definitely hurt the quality. They basically had a monopoly on the market, and to make a little more money, created a major rival. More dumb short-term money-grabbing in the soccer world.
The problem isn’t there’s no competition the problem is EA owns the licensing Nobody wants to play a game where half the teams aren’t in the game or you’re playing in fake stadiums. It sounds like EA is losing the FIFA license next season but we’ll see what happens with that as soccer is setup much differently than the NFL
They’ve already got some generic teams in game because some signed exclusive deals with Konami but it sounds like they’ll still have the vast majority like they do now even with losing the name FIFA, it’ll just mean they can’t put the World Cup in the game
Ea didn’t lose the license they just Refused to renew when fifa was asking for like half a trillion dollars or whatever the hell. Really overshot their value. Konamis game peaked when it was called Winning Eleven imo. All fifa owns is their name and the WC. I just think sports games have mostly hit a ceiling as far as the gameplay. Bugs and crashes and broken shit aren’t acceptable tho.
I don't need it to be good. I'd be happy if they threw updated rosters on 2008 or 2009. That era was actually more fun to play than 13-14 anyways imo
All I want is to have a a TMB online dynasty where I can try to steer Vanderbilt to a bowl game every few seasons.
You would have to think that EA will, right? More revenue. Would be amazing to play on a Steamdeck while taking a long flight.
Back then people considered that fun quirk that you just had to account for and now it would result in people swearing twitter they’d never play again.
I’m a bigger fan of the Dbs turning on a dime and b-lining it to a open receiver behind them that they can’t see.
True dat, I bust out NCAA 14 every once and awhile and I still get pissed at the same little quirks all the time. The DBs with 3 sets of eyes, WR screens being completely useless, etc….
The hope is that whatever they put out does really well sales wise but is just an okay product and better companies get involved in CFB games. 2K and the studio that does the Show do a much better job with their franchise modes.
If they just took this years Madden engine and made it for college and built out a really good recruiting/transfer system I'd probably play that game forever.
sure, but consider how many things that you as a player are able to do because you have the overhead perspective rather than that of one player. i think it balances itself out.
The New Gen FIFA is the best version of FIFA in a long time though... We still have to play Pro Clubs on old gen because of a few slackers, and it's still pretty mediocre and made absolutely no improvements from the past 2-3 FIFAs. But the XB X/S version of FIFA this year is a vast, noticeable improvement over previous games.
2K is the only sports game that I feel like cares. Even the show went from an amazing game to just a straight up money grab.
IMO I have had way more fun playing the Show without spending a dime (literally the past 2 years since it was on GamePass) than I would trying to play 2K online without additional spending.
I used to buy sports games strictly for franchise/dynasty mode. The show doesn’t even try at this point in that regard.
