Maynard complained about the elevation a couple of times. He did have a funny exchange with the crowd. After opiate, he says "supposedly this is Denver", crowd roars, he says "ehh sounds more like Colorado Springs" crowd roars even louder, "keep working on it" You might have to live here to fully get it but it was a funny jab
that's awesome I forget which show it was but there were pictures and video of Maynard (later joined by Adam & Justin while DC played CCTrip) in a sort of makeshift room under the stage watching some UFC title fight on a TV that was set up specifically for just that. Apparently he hopped down several times throughout the show before/after/during instrumental parts of songs to watch and get updates.
Yeah I've seen that video. At first we were kind of annoyed that our seats were so far over, but we had all seen Tool plenty enough that it ended up being an awesome vantage point to watch Danny go to work and see what Maynard does between songs.
Flew up to Louisville today to see Tool again with my buddy that lives up here. And I swear to Christ that they have to be trolling with these fucking openers. This is my seventh Tool show, and every single opener has been god awful. Just fucking noise cranked as loud as ear drums can handle. I liked the name “The Acid Helps” but that was horrible. Guantanamo Bay shit. Thank god they’re done. Now for the good stuff. /rant
The poster for the show tonight is so sick. Anyone know how much they are? I want one so bad. Seeing them Sunday in Columbus
I've seen great acts like Tricky, Tomahawk, and Primus all open for Tool but once they got this band called Melt Banana that was one of the worst things I've ever seen and heard in my life.
Was that the Asian chicks that just squealed and screamed over loud choppy metal riffs? Cuz I remember that, and it was the worst band I’ve ever seen in person lol.
Meshuggah opened up for them on one tour too, but the first time I saw them I believe some dude was in a chicken suit standing on his drum set and I was so confused Edit: yes they were called Tweak Bird
Yes to Soundgarden, no to Motörhead. Mastodon was pretty fucking loud too, but they ruled. Melt Banana was like an audio assault. It was weird as shit, but definitely memorable.
I believe they’re $60 for the regulars and $300 for the signed version. The issue is having to get there when the doors literally open to the public as they always sell out instantly because of the overwhelming demand and the dickheads who buy as many as possible to flip online.
Yearly get together with my buds was in Omaha this weekend. First time taking mushrooms, which were perfectly timed to enhance my first ever Tool experience. Absolutely blew my fucking mind. I've never seen anything like that.
I knew Adam did special effects and worked at Stan Winston’s shop. But I didn’t know he actually worked on Jurassic Park.
and Terminator 2, Alien 3, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Ghostbusters 2, Predator 2 etc etc dude was talented
Knew that. And quite a bit about his background. Also that he did movie special effects. Just not that he worked specifically on JP and other Hollywood blockbusters.
I’ve really come to like Fear Innoculum. It’s right behind Aenima for me. 1) Lateralus 2a) Aenima 2b) Fear Innoculum
Ænima is so good it’s very much a 1B sort of situation, but otherwise that’s very fair. Descending alone puts above 10KD and in the conversation with Undertow
to me like half of 10k Days is more interesting than anything on Fear Inoculum and I don't think I'll ever get why I seem to be in the extreme minority here
What I first heard as a bit bland and one note, I’ve come to really enjoy the tight cohesiveness of Fear Innoculum.
I'm not shitting on Fear Innoculum, I do like it fwiw. Nothing will ever touch Aenima for me. Surely that's not a sit down worthy take? It's their masterpiece. Also the one I heard first in my formative years. But to me it's the best summation of their musical complexity, emotion, atmosphere, meaning, musical appeal, everything.
this had been what I'd hoped to happen for me but every time I've tried it still feels like your first impression, glad it finally clicked for you though, maybe some day for me
I put in serious effort with FI. It had been so long since new Tool I wanted to really get into it. I listened to it a bunch all the way through when it came out, including on headphones, including in mind expanded situations. Appreciation definitely grew. I made a Spotify playlist of just the main album tracks with the interludes taken out. I think of it as kind of one long piece of music.
not at all, I was referring to putting Undertow above Lateralus. Depending on my mood I flip Aenima & Lateralus as 1A. They’re both so good and clearly a step (or two or three) above anything else they’ve done.
