Early this week we planned a drive down to Ocala for some BBQ today but it ended up going different than expected. This is rural Florida, for those unaware. Told our 4 year old that if she ever sees that flag, assume the person is a bad person and stay away. So then we get to Ocala and go to where the BBQ food truck we like was set up. Didn't realize it was a Juneteenth festival at a park so we rolled up as the only white people other than 3 cops. They had a stage with a band, lots of tents with people selling stuff, and then food trucks. A local cheerleaders group was raising money and they taught G a cheer while we waited on food. Got some Q and sat down on the bleachers to eat. An old man and his grandson sat down right in front of us. Then G said "So what's all of this for?" Welp, didn't plan on discussing that with a 4 yr old today but here we go. Used the term servants instead of slaves bc she knows servants from Disney movies. Just told her some bad people used to keep servants and some good people told them to stop, they had a war over it, the good guys won, and later the last group of servants found out they were free and this is the celebration for that. Asked her if she remembered the flag from earlier, she said yes, so I told her that flag is someone saying they like the bad guys. She got it. Then she wanted to walk over to a long wall that's painted. Old man gave me a fist bump as we got up. This shit isn't hard. Think I found the answer. From what I gathered, West Ocala was/is the black area of town. Of course they slapped a highway through the middle of it. West Ocala rapidly changed during this period. The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 allowed the use of federal funds in acquiring right-of-ways for projects to be built in the next five years. Upgrading highway systems in the late 1950s was a priority for President Eisenhower. During this period, West Broadway was widened and many businesses and residents were lost. Modifying this street into a faster thoroughfare bisected the neighborhood and drastically altered the character of the area. Some of West Ocala's most beautiful and prestigious homes were destroyed. The hospital was demolished as well as other landmarks.
It’s really not bizarre at all if you know the town. During desegregation, the city went about letting the students chose the new names of the high schools. The students at the former whites-only school chose “Forrest High School.” The administration dropped the second “r” so it’s just Forest High School.
The problem is with CTE is it's hard to know all it affects. It can manifest itself a bunch of different ways. However, I don't think you can blame Herschel's politics on CTE

Yeah, he’s a dumb piece of shit who also likely has CTE. It’s just annoying how many people seem to give the latter credit for the former in spite of copious evidence to the contrary. I know that’s not what you were doing, but it’s a really common narrative that (1) hurts other players, and (2) implicitly excuses his shitheadedness.
I think you could maybe blame the domestic violence on it because it can make people violent and impairs impulse control. I don't think it makes you lie and I've never seen it make you have bad political opinions from what all I've read about it
Yea, I'm aware of it. Really didn't think about it in rural areas like Ocala but I-75 runs through it and obviously the only option was to run it through West Ocala, the black area of town.
