Finished the book last night. Man part 2 is going to be wild on the big screen. Can't wait.

Damn the book was a cliffhanger though. Which books should I read/avoid? I heard it gets weird when the son takes over

    Dune is a must

If you read Messiah, you have to finish Children of Dune

    I'd rank the saga 1 3 4 2/5/6 with the last 3 interchangeable

Anything not done by Frank isn't worth the read

Non-Frank stuff isn't worth the read but it is worth going to a wikipedia page for a synopsis of Herbert's overall plan that he never finished

I don’t claim to be smart or any kind of AV nerd, but my first thought when watching that video was, “it’s as though IMAX is the old aspect ratio I remember from my childhood, and ‘standard’ is the widescreen ratio that was the hot new thing ten years ago.”

Someone please explain to me why that is a dumb take.

I had the same thought, except it still maintains the width of the entire film.

It’s not. Using film size, imax is 70mm while standard movies are 35mm. Imax format films just are a larger picture so they can strip out the margins for standard screens.

    Small update

    https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/denis-villeneuve-updates-dune-part-two-harkonnen-exclusive/

Denis Villeneuve Updates On Dune Part Two; Promises ‘Much More Harkonnen Stuff’ – Exclusive

While splitting Herbert’s book in two offered more time to establish Dune’s world of fractured alliances, hard-fought resources, and exploited indigenous communities, Villeneuve still had to make tough decisions – including losing Gurney Halleck’s baliset – in the first film. But in Part Two, there’s a chance to bring certain things back to the surface. “When you adapt, you have to make bold choices in order for the things to come to life. And I think that was the best way to introduce this world to a wide audience. Now in the second one, I want to have more flexibility, and it will be possible to go a little bit deeper into some of these details,” he explains. That includes introducing characters like Feyd-Rautha – as the focus of the story shifts to characters who played a smaller part last time around. “It’s like a chess game. Some new characters will be introduced in the second part and a decision I made very early on was that this first part would be more about Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit, and his experience of being in contact for the first time with a different culture,” says Villeneuve. “Second part, there will be much more Harkonnen stuff.”

    https://collider.com/dune-2-script-imax-footage-denis-villeneuve-comments/

    Villeneuve:

On the Pressure of Part 2:

"The first one, it was more to make sure that we will land in the world and that the movie will be accepted. Now it's to make sure that we can close that first book, so it's like there's some premises that are in the first movie that I need to ignore. So yeah, I think I would say there's more pressure with the second one in some ways."

    Status of Part 2:

"The screenplay is finished mostly, but it's always a work in progress. It'll be a work in progress until final cut, but I will say it's solidified. I have a script in my hands. We are in prep right now."

    On using more IMAX:

"Definitely. [Cinematographer] Greig Fraser and I, we fell in love with this format, and definitely there be—even probably more—IMAX footage in this movie. Definitely."

‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ Series Taps ‘Chernobyl’ Director Johan Renck To Helm First Two Episodes

Johan Renck, the Emmy Award-winner behind HBO series Chernobyl, is to direct the first two episodes of Dune: The Sisterhood.

Dune: The Sisterhood, which is based on Frank Herbert’s classic novel, is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides and follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

Diane Ademu-John is writer and showrunner, having replaced Jon Spaihts last year, who was focusing on writing the sequel movie, which is set for a 2023 release.

Ehh, I wouldn't worry too much Dune "lore" as that is all nonsense, and those books aren't good as a narrative.

Christopher Walken to Play Emperor Shaddam IV in ‘Dune: Part Two’

    Details:

Walken will play Emperor Shaddam IV, the ruler of the known universe who initially sends the Atreides family to Arrakis in order to cause their downfall. In the continuation, he and the baron terrorize the populace and must content with the rebellion. Jose Ferrer played the part in the 1984 movie adaptation by David Lynch.

Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan Corrino) and Austin Butler (Feyd-Rautha) were announced a few months ago, which is why it isn't in the main headline.

"Corrinos are great liars. The best in the world. I'm Corrino. My father was the world heavy-weight champion of Corrino liars. From growing up with him I learned the pantomime. There are seventeen different things a guy can do when he lies to give himself away. A guys got seventeen pantomimes. A woman's got twenty, but a guy's got seventeen... but, if you know them, like you know your own face, they beat lie detectors all to hell. Now, what we got here is a little game of show and tell. You don't wanna show me nothin', but you're tellin me everything. I know you know where they are, so tell me before I do some damage you won't walk away from."
