I saw Geno did the ask Twitter where they should play tomorrow and Fried Egg responded for them to play in their event at Yale today
Seems like he only cares about majors anyways. Injury prone dude who has won once since like 2019 was probably a good bet to bail
It was pretty clear the deal was already done when Brooks got so upset with reporters for asking him about LIV. Fits him well he’s a cunt.
Nope, retiring to focus on his nonprofit work, design courses, sell whiskey, go fishing, and start a farm in Montana.
Sounds the most likely, but have they officially announced Reed yet too? I don’t remember seeing anything official
They’re all going to go eventually. It’s inevitable. And the PGA Tour’s desperate attempt to keep them by adding big money fall events for top players goes completely against what the players actually want.
that seems to be exactly what they want? Or at least the ones leaving. They just want more money. They want to play less events and make more money. Depending on how they qualify for these, that would seem exactly what they want
More money, yes. But they want less events, not the addition of more. They also want a longer off-season, so adding more must-play events in the fall makes very little sense.
Playing in the fall is not what they want. The top 50 guys virtually shut it down after the FedEx wraps up. This would add another 1-2 months to their grind.
Yeah the LIV tour seems like a perfect fit for Brooks and DJ. Surprised that Bryson wanted the LIV tour. He seems like less of a money driven guy and more of a legacy guy even though he's a weirdo. Morikawa would be a huge blow. Hopefully that's not true.
if theyre able to drop a couple events early in the year, that will cut it down though. If the players just want to blow up the schedule so they can play less and make more, I don’t think they’re going to find a whole lot of sympathy. But maybe I’m wrong there
Like I said, it depends on you qualify and these could just be replacements for other pga events. I’m not expecting the guys to play 3 extra events but instead skip earlier events. So at most would be the same events. But if they make it like FedEx where you need to play so many events to qualify and these are really just add ons, then yeah that’s not helpful. But if these guys can still play 18 and these are included there, then that gives them more money and more flexibility
They need to do away with fall fedex cup points. You get a bunch of these bottom feeders hoovering up fall points and then it puts some of the middle/top guys behind coming into the spring. That’s where it makes guys feel like they have to play all the time.
Maybe Phil knew what he was talking about all along? Started a trend to help the players on the PGA make more money. PGA was clearly holding back money from the players. Phil is still a man of the people and his peers.
i don’t know tour financials and how much cash they are sitting on but: 1) they could have tapped into some sponsor/pe money to fund this 2) maybe they are emptying the coffers as a last stand to fight off LIV?
Finding $75 million is quite a leap from sitting on $4 billion in digital assets (Although from when he said it NFT's performance might track to that)
He won the WMPO in 2021. He’s on the back end of his prime, and in poor form currently…but he has won recently.
This. Big money fall events do not move the needle at all and it seems like the tour is completely tone deaf. The tour tries too hard to keep the middle and lower middle tier type guys relevant IMO.
This criticism doesn't make any sense to me. Look at all the young guys becoming stars this year alone. That doesn't happen when you start shutting out the everyone but the top ranked players.
I feel vindicated by my initial feelings of not liking most of the guys who have left for LIV long before they left. I had that brief moment where I rooted for the old guy Phil in a major or two out of some weird sentimental feeling, which I completely regret.
