I think you’re missing Cornfed Buffalo ‘s point “feared for my life” gives cops carte blanche to do whatever they want. Why would anyone think they’d be held to a different standard in this situation.
Maybe I did. I put this one in a different category because them being cowards and hiding lead to innocent kids being shot. Not them being in a panic and shooting someone, that obviously happens frequently. Different forms of being scared, I guess?
Well yea. I was just saying why I think this one is/would be different than the others you alluded to.
I just think that those who excuse cops “because they just want to get home to their families” when they shoot an unarmed individual will excuse them here too. Also call me a race baiter, cynical or a realist but I do wholeheartedly believe the kids being Latino makes a difference in public opinion and in how the cops reacted.
This is not excusing the cops, I hate these police officers, but aren’t the majority of them Hispanic as well? So the Hispanic cops hesitated because they wanted to see Hispanic kids killed? I think they were just scared bitches
I just can't believe one of the officers' wife was one of the shot teachers and even he didn't go in. Unbelievable.
idk why people think because someone belongs to a specific group it means they can’t do fucked up shit to others from that group. History has shown us examples of people betraying individuals like themselves. No one is saying they “wanted brown kids to die” we are saying that the kid’s race played a part in how they reacted. Moreover there countless of examples of brown cops treating individuals they assume are undocumented like shit. Brown and black cops often want to distance themselves from brown and black people to show “they aren’t like them that they are the good ones”. Do all white people care/like all white people? Obviously not idk why it has to be different for POC.
But in this instance I don’t think the cops would have behaved differently if the students had been white. Or black. They would have waited outside regardless because they were scared
I could be completely misremembering (or just flat out hoping), but I thought this dude was one the few if not the only one who was trying to go in and was stopped.
I couldn't recall. I was just reading that Texas Tribune article this morning. Said that guy came in saying that, and indicated that he wanted to go in. I may have missed that they stopped him. I have to think if my wife called me to say she'd been shot and was bleeding to death, that you'd have to physically remove me. I can't imagine just letting your spouse die without a fight.
there are so many lies that have been spewed that idk what to believe but I remember the cop whose wife called him did enter the school and got her. I didn’t think there was a cop whose wife was killed. Maybe I’m misremembering or has it come out that multiple cops had wives in the school?
The human desire for acceptance can lead people to doing awful things. The recognition of the US being profoundly racist can make some members of the oppressed groups to show they “belong” by distancing themselves from others in that group. The anti-immigration Hispanics are an example. Latino/as in CBP and ICE that grow comfortable with brutalizing and ruining the lives of other Latino/as just to further racist American policy are particularly deluded, imo.
It was another one. I just went and reread, he was escorted away. "Another officer who entered the hallway was Ruben Ruiz of the Uvalde school district police force. His wife, teacher Eva Mireles, had called him on his cellphone and told him she was bleeding heavily. “She says she is shot,” he told the officers on the scene.` The video from inside the hallway doesn’t capture what Ruiz did inside the school. But a DPS official told the Tribune that Ruiz was soon escorted away by other officers on the scene."
Yeah but I can also guarantee you’ve been through more real shit in your life than 99.8% of cops on the job.
As a 51 year old black male who has lived in America his entire life, I agree with him. Any brown person would agree.
similarly related: nypd is given billions and deblasio criticized them slightly and they alluded to killing or raping his daughter
Blah blah blah, federal and state ain't doin' shit blah blah ask somebody else because I don't know. There were 7 other police agencies there. I ain't got shit to cover for, I'm done with politics once my term is over. Fuck him and his bullshit covering for his police. He's trying to pass the blame so people quit yelling at him. Also a dose of someone with access is spreading false info to make us look bad.
Lol. If the kids were black the cops would have ended this much quicker..by indiscriminately emptying their clips into the room
