Going to need him for one of the two games so that’s why I would just wait a day. I get the whole you have to win tomorrow to get to play Thursday, but smith and tygart haven’t pitched at all and both can go 3+
The # of pitches is irrelevant to me. Throughout the year he was on 5-6 days rest. Bringing him back on 3 is silly especially when it’s not like he is some dominant pitcher.
IMO that’s what you should do. Maybe someone to bridge the gap from Smith to Tygart but try to do it with those two guys. And if you win, you throw Noland on four days rest, which should be plenty.
Hagen smith with 6 up 2 runs against ole miss and tygart hasn’t thrown a pitch in Omaha if Noland was Justin Verlander I would agree with you but he’s probably a borderline Saturday guy in the sec.
He’s hot, he’s experienced, and it’s a win or go home deal. I won’t be mad if we start Smith at all though, he’s one of my favorite players on the team already. I just worry about his fastball against this team and don’t want Elko hitting one 700 yards
DVH getting that rap isn’t justified at all. He hasn’t abused an arm since the mid 00s and he was in the majority at that time. He’s not absolute sessile fucking slime like Pat Casey throwing a freshman for 130+ pitches in the CWS

His usage of Kopps last year was insane regardless of whether or not there were consequences. A pitcher’s being “able to handle it” doesn’t really matter. That said, abusing arms is the norm in college. DVH is far from the worst offender. A few years ago Tennessee Tech started a kid twice and used him in a relief spot in a regional.
