She turns 35 3 weeks prior to the election and the rule is she has to be 35 by inauguration so she could run unless I'm missing something.

I don't think it is the right time for Newsome. I think he will go to the Senate then run later when the Dems have a better chance to win.

I've said it in other threads, and I don't think she'd do it, but Michele Obama is the only D I think could win. Kamala or Pete would get murdered by DeSantis, sadly.

I think part of the reason for the nosedive for Biden is that his agenda has not been the agenda he ran on, and he isn’t left enough/populist enough to satisfy the D base. He’s not the guy independents thought he would govern as, and he’s not the guy he assured the base he would be.** Look at the poll results of this thread (this is not to mention his gaffes, mental acuities, creepiness, etc).

also, there is a lot to be said of his messaging. More so that Klain and possibly Rice think that is the problem. No, inflation is the problem. It is messaging-proof. People are paying more for shit than they ever have and they hold the admin responsible. On some level they are right (American rescue plan was short sighted).

    * I suppose this is true of any candidate that rallies to the middle in the gen election, but Biden was an empty suit for a lot of people I know. He was the alternative to trump, and voters believed whatever they wanted to believe about what that meant his admin would look like.

I'm struggling to understand your position here. A simple majority means absolutely nothing in the Senate, which you surely know. And the Senate is rarely dissuaded by the executive office because they hold a considerable amount of power over the EO. To suggest that the president should be able to bully the Senate in it's current format to get what he wants is a very rudimentary, naive take.

In an alternate reality where the GOP took one senate seat in Jan 2021, are the leftists ITT less frustrated with Biden and the Dems? I remember thinking that the expectations of Dems and the left got really inflated when they took both senate seats.

I just wonder how crazy it will get if Biden doesn’t run. Will Buttigieg, Harris, Warren, and Sanders all go for the nomination again? Will they trash either other again? I was surprised when all of them worked for Biden after campaigning against each other.

I dont concede the idea that 50/50 is actually 48/52. I think the administration could have and can do a better job convincing, negotiating, horse trading etc with there two to get what they want on key agenda items. “We tried, he didn’t want to do it” or “that bitch” doesn’t cut it for the power of the Presidency. For me.

No one can force him, but like that’s the narrowest view of what’s possible. Oh we can’t tie him to a chair and put a gun to his head, might as well just admit there’s absolutely no way to get this done. Maybe it’s true, I don’t think it is.

    Agreed.

    Agreed.

Isn’t this like the exact logic you hate from Democrats when it comes to plenty of issues? Well if we do this, then the Republicans will actually get that, so we shouldn’t do this.

I am aware. I disagree with your view on EO power. I think Biden has done a poor job of leveraging that power.

I will vote for Joe again if he’s the guy, obviously. I just don’t think he’s actually done a good job with the hand he was dealt - and now he’s about to be dealt a shit hand and be a figurehead for two years when the GOP takes back at least one chamber this fall.

I've said this 1,000 times, but what's one more. This idea that Joe Biden could apply pressure to Joe Manchin, a Democratic senator in a state that Donald Trump won by 39 points, and which has no other Democratic office holders, and make his life miserable in order to get him to vote different ways is just unbelievably politically ignorant.
