this x a million I think a good chunk of this board, myself included, was a Pete fan early on and before primaries bc his messaging was very good but then some consultant took over and told him to be a moderate and he went to absolute dog shit
unless you get rid of the filibuster nothing can be done in a 50-50 senate. Harris breaks the tie but nothing passes
Pete, or that insane GOP campaign manager Lis Smith, thought it was a good strategy to whine about people making fun of him online.
He fucking sucks but incumbent advantage is real. He won’t help the US at all but maybe he lives long enough for DT to die. Idk this is the worst eat Arby’s
I don't want him to run but at the same time feels like all the other options on the D side are doomed to lose or wouldn't be much, if any, better.
holy fucking shit. Okay what policy of his did you like? What exactly did he accomplish that you’re a fan of.
I would gladly vote for Biden if they had a qualified progressive VP and hope to god Biden has to step down. Sadly, this is about as likely as Sydney Sweeney kicking down my door and offering to sit on my face.
And how did you vote for Trump if you approved of GOP policies pre-Trump? His scatterbrained thoughts on trade, business, defense and foreign policy are diametrically opposed to what GOP advocated for decades.
Srs I never want to hear that a big loud white guy is too anything to win. That’s a fucking super power in this political environment
Donald Trump was a) a suit-wearing prick who descended from a golden elevator from his golden tower and b) a Republican who c) lost re-election because his prickish qualities turned off suburban women
And he largely lost re-election because he mishandled a deadly pandemic leading to hundreds of thousands of dead Americans and millions stuck at home. Put him in a good economic environment and he still wins.
Probably. What’s your point about the 2021 elections? They have very little to do with the presidential race and surrounding economic and social conditions in 2020.
I saw that but you have understand trump wasn’t passing any actual policy. I bet if you took away the letters and looked at what the two actually stand Clinton and Biden probably are closer to what you believe in than trump. I’m a leftist. I’m progressive. Until 16 I hadn’t voted for a democrat because imo they were in essence republicans. That distinction has gotten wider in recent years.
Some amazing lawyer brain going on itt. Fetterman won EVERY county in PA, including lots and lots of non-white Philly. Him being a scary big white-guy clearly doesn't matter, even with a story of him doing something evidently horribly racist.
every election has peculiar socio economic background factors but, regardless of reality, both of those issues didn’t prevent significant D > R defections amongst demographics who rejected Trump for his personality but voted for R candidates who ran on his policy
He actually won because of the number of 3rd party votes. His 2016 % in Wisconsin was lower than George W. Bush in either of his 2 elections. 2016 % in Michigan was lower than Bush when he lost it in 2012. His 2016 % in Pennsylvania was lower than Bush when he lost it in 2012. And it goes on and on…
You’re “every election is different” ing a once a century global pandemic and once every two or three decades racial/social unrest? In favor of it being because Trump’s uncouth?
It’s a lot more likely he lost suburban women because Alice was home schooling her kids and was fucking sick of it.
We were still in a pandemic in 2021 and people didn’t give a shit about voting for candidates who promised to promised to shit on Covid restrictions (for the reasons you mentioned). The racial unrest is an enduring issue and the Republicans won in 2021 on the dumbass CRT boogeyman. But those arguments weren’t being advanced by Donald Trump, so they weren’t toxic to swing voters.
We had vaccines in 2021 and kids were largely back to school. And the racial issue is enduring like it’s been enduring forever but you don’t see most major cities with thousands of protestors in the streets and police precincts on fire.
Exit polling was split on whether efforts to contain Covid were going well or poorly in November 2020 (even as they said that prior efforts were poor) you didn’t see racial unrest near the 2020 election either unless you only consume right wing media what you got every day was Trump being a toxic shithead he’s also a very different person from Fetterman other than both effectively using Twitter to denigrate their opponents so I don’t think you can just broad brushstroke “huge white guys can just do what they want”
Honestly the biden presidency has been more depressing than trump's and I don't know if I can survive another. I'm not advocating for a Republican over biden, obviously
I don’t see a good argument for him over Whitmer Despite my multiple replies, I am willing to be convinced, though. I definitely think it’s good to have someone like him around, I’m just skeptical of his ability to carry a national ticket, particularly at the top.
