What would make this trade better 1. Trade olynyk for Hayward and 13. (Rumors are they'll trade one not both picks to move Hayward) 2. Leaves enough cap space to sign Ayton and bring back Bagley 3. Package 36 to move up to 4 and draft Ivey 4. Hopefully draft Sochan at 13 Cade/Killian Ivey/Diallo Bey/Hayward Bagley/Sochan/Livers Ayton/Stewart
The best thing about this deal is the Grant stuff is over and we can draft Murray at 5 without him being blocked for playing time. The worst thing about this deal is we clearly took what we did to maximize cap space, and now I get to be terrified for the next 9 days about whatever we're about to do on July 1 when FA opens. We'll read all the rumors about Ayton and Bridges and end up signing Sexton and Robinson or some shit for $20M per.
Edwards says we're going after Ayton. Also said this was the best deal we were offered because of course he'd say that.
this plus drafting Ivey or Mathurian is the dream scenario. Reality will be closer to drafting Murray and signing Robinson and Sexton to $20+ million each
Imagine the meltdown if we pass on Ivey at 5. James Edwards will say it was the right call, and whatever guy we take he had rated higher on his board.
I don’t know why you wouldn’t believe this. I’m not certain we should be prioritizing someone that can’t shoot
Ivey improved his 3 pt shooting 10% on more attempts this season. I'd be stunned if he's not at least a solid shooter in a couple seasons. I don't care if he's not great at it as a rook.
He looked like he could shoot in non-conference season. He looked like he could not shoot in conference season. I think level of competition factored in there
Think I’ve slowly become team Mathurin. Dude can shoot, doesn’t turn the ball over and is still pretty young even though he played two years. Basically splitting the difference between Murray’s college production and Ivey’s potential.
Not sure if it's me talking myself into it because it's the likely outcome, but I've come around on Mathurin
Stein The Pistons are widely expected to make the pursuit of Phoenix Suns restricted free agent Deandre Ayton their priority after agreeing Wednesday to trade Jerami Grant to Portland. Word is Ayton, furthermore, would indeed embrace the concept of teaming with Cade Cunningham to form a new Pistons two-man core. Detroit is projected to have salary-cap space in the $50 million range to pursue Ayton and perhaps one other top free agent, with Charlotte's Miles Bridges and Cleveland's Collin Sexton thought to be ahead of Dallas' Jalen Brunson on the Pistons’ wish list.
So Weaver essentially got 2 firsts and a second for Grant. He is clearly the God King of NBA general managers Moving up in the 2nd is actually pretty good in a draft like this with so many highly ranked freshman that should have gone back to school staying in the draft. Would think Weaver is working to use that pick to move back up into the 1st
I really like the trade in that we got some future assets (even if they’re twos) and I’m expecting to eat some of that space with a questionable contract for more assets
I posted it more to mock Edwards once again carrying water for Weaver. Don't hate the trade but it is much closer to trading Grant for 3 second rounders than it is 2 first rounders.
Givony says we're interested in Gordon Hayward if we can get a Charlotte pick, and Jalen Duren might be the target in that scenario. That would be very odd.
lol 2 - Jalen Duren 6-11, 250 Power Forward/Center NBA Comparison: Andre Drummond He probably won't drop to the Hornets pick but Jeremy Sochan seems like a prototypical Weaver player. Could see Tari Eason as a fit if they go with a guard at #5
I'm fine with them taking Hayward to get a pick. I'm fine with Duren as a prospect in that range. It's bizarre if we want Ayton, but would take $30M in Hayward to acquire a center only prospect right before we chase Ayton. On top of already having Stewart, Olynyk and possibly Bagley.
For the 5th pick 1. Ivey (trade up if needed) 2. Mathurin 3. Sharpe 4. Griffin/Murray If we trade into late lottery 1. Sochan 2. Eason 3. Duren/WIlliams (assuming we're not getting Ayton)
Draft Murray, trade for Heyward and draft Duran. Then include Duran and Milwaukee 1st in sign and trade for Ayton
There was some weird fuckery this morning based on something Woj did and the betting markets had Panchero 1 for a while, then books took it down and when it went back up Smith was favored again.
