I do envy Whammy's unwavering confidence despite being repeatedly proven to not know dick about what he's talking about.
No idea what exactly is juvenile about this back and forth. I asked for examples on a pretty extreme claim. You never give them.
Weird to have one party storm the Capitol and try to overthrow an elected government and finding time to blame the other party
When you consider Biden, who has been a gaffe machine for decades in DC, and had been unsuccessful twice before, anyone who was on that stage and couldn’t edge him owns that L as very discrediting. In other words, it’s not a career killer to lose to a candidate like Obama who just seizes the geist and has the Will of the voters. To lose to a really mediocre and unsuccessful candidate doesn’t speak well for your political future. I think the Dems best chance would be someone from outside the political scene.
I feel like Whammy has a fundamental need to believe that both parties are equally trustworthy/untrustworthy good/bad faith actors. So when one party, for example, suppresses minority voters, attempts to overturn elections, undermines the democratic functions of our government, packs the courts with unqualified partisans, passes discriminatory legislation, removes our constitutional rights, disempowers the working class, threatens political violence, etc., he necessarily needs to either ignore those factual occurrences as political attacks from the Democrats, or invent Democratic transgressions to balance the scales. All of this in an effort to convince himself he is more enlightened than the rest.
I hate to defend some of those candidates but in your own post your say Biden was unsuccessful 2 times and went on to become president. It kind of shoots holes in your theory
He lost in 08 because he ran into the Obama buzz saw. He lost in 88 because he got caught in a college cheating scandal (back when something like that moved the needle)
Biden didn't have a chance in 2008 whether Obama was a candidate or not. He wasn't going to beat Hillary or Edwards.
none of this is democratic policy. No democrats have in office have done any of these things. Unlike republicans who have done the things they are accused of doing.
For me, it's hip, young, white, self-ascribed high-minded conservatives who "go a little too hard" at trombone shorty concerts.
My uncle always said, "if you're not liberal before age 30, you have no heart. But if you're not conservative after age 30, you have no brain." Spoiler Wonder which political ideology makes you have no liver after age 50?
I’m back What point are you making. White nationalism isn’t an official Republican policy either bub, but we know there are strains of it in Republican circles. Authoritarians don’t just say “hello, my platform is to take away civil liberties”
Easy tiger - Im just in my mid-thirties, 7 white claws and a vodka soda in four hours of 95 degree heat is enough to put me on my ass for days. Also had to wake up at 5:45 for work. So desperate for talking points that **checks notes** going to a concert** is evidence of some nefarious character defect. Does anyone love life here or is it just constant doom scrolling - honest question
Life is pretty sweet. It’d be sweeter if I could scare up a hammer drill without having to buy one. Gotta wrap this patio project up.
Corporations make up a critical part of the economy, yes. More people are gainfully employed in GA due to business friendly policies. I can still believe this and want to bring down healthcare costs through single payer
The trouble is the big picture. Take away the downward pressure on labor via employment contingent healthcare and you risk profit squeeze. It incentives outsourcing and offshoring, like we saw in the 70s. That business friendly policy will find hostile businesses when workers are demanding $35/hr because they can’t be threatened with catastrophic healthcare failure.
You know what would be really good for Georgia's economy? Legal weed and sports gambling. You know what will never happen with Kemp and this fucking shit state legislature? Legal weed and sports gambling. Fuck Kemp and the Kemp Ka$h I haven't gotten yet.
Presumably, if single payer works the way it’s supposed to, overall healthcare spending per capita declines through reduced drug and procedure pricing. I’d love to get employee benefits off my books, it’s a huge expense and I know the money is going towards healthcare that is overpriced because the govt can’t bargain as the single payer. I acknowledge that, to pay for it, the company would need to pay an additional tax but again if this administered correctly the tax should be less per employee than the benefits I’m paying them which I could then pass along in increased pay to employees while profit margins the same. Hell, I’d sacrifice a few points on top of that to get the pain in the ass of managing benefits off my plate. The arbitrage comes of course from the healthcare industry which overall becomes way less profitable which I’m cool with. Apologies to those of you that work in healthcare
Okay let’s play this game. Trump ran on white nationalist platform. There are currently elected republicans in office that embrace “nationalism”. The Republican Party pushes great replacement theory. The North Carolina admitted their Voter suppression policies targeted democrats who just so happened to be black. There are republicans running for office who are calling for Shitty AMC Show of people from the LBGQT community. There are countless examples of racist gop policies. I’ll ask you to give examples of democrats being “authoritarians”. Give specific examples of democrats doing what you claim they do. You’re a white guy and are probably a decent person so I’m sure it’s difficult for you to accept that you support individuals who actively oppress POC and other minorities.
I also would like legalized weed and gambling, but I’m a functioning adult and acknowledge that not getting those things doesn’t make Kemp a fascist and that I won’t always get what I want. I furthermore acknowledge that the United States is one of the largest, most diverse countries on Earth with many distinctive beliefs and value systems and that’s ok. More directed at others ITT than you FYI
for sport i'll do it because you're a dullard and i'm unfortunately unfathomably curious most people consider the base the primary voters, but i'll go a step further for you and use mid-term primary voters. the core core of the dem coalition. 57/43 Female/Male 54/24/9/7/2 White/Black/Hispanic/Asian/Native American 29 Post Grad/ 33 College Grad/ 24 Some College or Associates/ 11 HS Only/ 2 Didn't Finish HS 30% 18-39 / 37% 40/59 / 33% 60+ 32% moderate/ 34% somewhat liberal / 26% very liberal yeah this ain't this board
Thank you assuming I’m a decent person. Much appreciated and thank you for responding earnestly instead of playing internet games (Lyrtch) Here’s where we’re not all on the same page, and is a significant blind spot for many of this board (in my opinion, always open to listening): He didn’t run on that platform, there was nothing said explicitly. But it was obvious to anyone that there was some wink winking going on. It was the silence when these deplorable people were talking that was the most telling, signaling implicit endorsement of their views. This is precisely the behavior I’m saying Dems also engage in, but nobody in here wants to hear it. No Democrat in office is gonna outright say it, but their silence when the crazies are talking speaks louder than words This is legit something a Proud Boy would say and I get he’s a crazy but where’s the denunciation? Ya know? Let me reiterate that the Republican authoritarian strain is more dangerous at the moment which is why mostly voting Dem but I’m just very queasy about the direction of our party relative to 2014. Sorry I know this is too long
wild to be riding for SCOTUS the day it chips away at Miranda, makes an affirmative right to concealed carry, and the day before it overturns Roe
Could you be any more obtuse. There can’t be anymore than 5 females on this board, did you really think that’s what I meant? Ideologically I see the same themes and policy preferences discussed her that I associate with the extreme wing of the DEMS a.k.a the base. Like the Maga equivalent.
SCOTUS has been a source of great victories for the liberal cause many times through US history. Also many black marks as well. I think most conservatives would say SCOTUS has been handing them L’s the last 20-30 years. Source: my friends and family from home ha
You’re either missing it deliberately, irredeemably out in La La Land, or a lot more dull than I thought No different than the president or the party not denouncing Richard Spencer. Neither President or the party is saying anything to quell the crazies which is tacit endorsement IMO. Or they don’t want to upset the base. Spencer was irrelevant in the grand scheme as well, but important to tell people you think they’re irrelevant and don’t represent ya
if we're heading towards Supreme Court reform as a "crazy" thing I guess repudiating most the premier legal scholars in the country is what we're asking i'm an originalist, Marbury was wrongly decided and not outlined in the constitution, the founders would agree with me
