I hope we aren't buying out or stretching Noel. I'm kind of hoping we're shopping Stewart around the league at the moment.

    Current roster...

PG - Cunningham, Hayes, Joseph, Lee

Wing - Ivey, Bey, Burks, Diallo, Livers, Key (2-way), Boeheim (2-way)

Bigs - Stewart, Duren, Noel, Bagley (RFA), Olynyk

That's a lot of bigs. I think we're still adding a 4 in some form or fashion. I'm going to be annoyed if we play Stewart, Olynyk and/or Bagley a lot of minutes at the 4 this year.

Who knows how this shakes out, but we could be north of $50M in cap space again after $40M in expirings between Burks, Olynyk, Noel, Diallo and Joseph, on top of about $17M in dead money that will no longer be on the books from buyouts for Kemba, Jordan and others.

I guess if they really wanted some vets to round out roster and they really plan on playing both, I guess both of them on 1 year expiring deals and adding a couple picks beats overpaying for a vet to a multi year deal in FA

I really hoped to turn this space into one of more firsts, so I’m going to hope we’re still trading

Bobby Marks tweeted we still have around $23M in space, although Bagley eats into that in some way depending on how that deal ends up.

Is that 23 if he’s renounced or with the hold?

I just signed up for a cable TV package so when I cancel it in a year I'll be saving $100 a month. That's a lot of money.

$23M if he's renounced. I think we're technically over the cap based on his hold (which is around $28M), which could be an answer to the Grant conversation from earlier. Since we're technically over the cap, I think that would create a trade exception of $20Mish from moving Grant for nothing, but the cap is weird and I could be wrong on that.

Does tonight's deal more or less officially take you guys out of the running for Ayton and Bridges?

People been saying we've been out on Ayton since the draft. It also sounds like Charlotte going to match anything on Bridges now anyway

In terms of an offer sheet, yes. We could pretty easily do a sign and trade if we wanted, I think, but these moves would seem to suggest we aren't looking for that.

Hollinger brought up Gallinari as a name to look out for with us via trade, likely to help facilitate Atlanta trading for someone and maybe adding a pick in the process.

He's got a team option for this year. I don't know quite how that works if he's traded and how much we would owe if we just wanted to drop him. He'd make some sense as a vet who can play some 4 and shoot, if we wanted to go that route and keep him. He was in OKC during Weaver's last year there.

Edwards is a good writer and I think he's generally a good beat guy. But stuff like this (which he was posting all morning) annoys the hell out of me. The Pistons getting swept twice in the first round the last 6 years somehow puts them a level above the Lions, Wings and Tigers as a franchise? They haven't won a playoff game since the 08 ECF. Get the hell out of here with that shit.

I like Weaver and he's doing a good job, but the second tweet here is hilarious. Basically, as long as the GM says they're "restoring" or rebuilding, there's nothing to be accountable for. It's the same bullshit Avila pulled on the Tiger beat guys the last 6+ years.

I don't know what the correct number of wins should be next year. The league is really deep right now and maybe it plays out where we're a sub-30 win team. And maybe there are scenarios where that happens and I can deal with it. But there's zero reason to come out now and excuse that kind of year before it happens. And it's going to be especially annoying if they win 35 games next year and guys like Edwards act like the fan base should be thrilled because the team exceeded expectations when they were the ones who were low balling expectations.

We won 23 last year and a lot of that felt like tanking. I think 30-35 should be the expectation

Hollinger seems to think we will be pretty bad.

With French prodigy Victor Wembanyama a consensus No. 1 pick, and in some eyes a generational talent, teams that are already not-so-good have an extra incentive to be terrible this season. The Pistons eschewed the idea of chasing Brunson at an inflated number (and, for that matter, Ayton and Miles Bridges) to instead spend another year accumulating assets and truly rebuilding. The Pistons could also have upwards of $60 million in cap room a year from now and perhaps a core worth signing up to join.

Burks isn’t good enough to win Detroit too many games, but if he proves he’s recovered from recent foot surgery, he could net the team another second at the trade deadline. Yes, the Pistons will re-sign Bagley, give the keys to Cunningham and see what happens with Duren, Stewart, Saddiq Bey and some other young players they like; they’re not totally tanking, but they’re not not tanking either. By the way, the Pistons still have some spare cap room to take in more unwanted deals even after all this is done ($12 million to $15 million or so, depending on Bagley’s price); keep an eye on Danilo Gallinari, whom they could acquire and then waive before executing the Knicks trade.

I don’t think saying we should expect to win 30-35 games should be interpreted as saying this is a good team.

Also this is the opinion of a guy that gave chandler parsons a 4/94 deal in 16

Pistons roster, as currently constructed I think hovers somewhere between 5th to 12th worst team next year

If we end up bottom 3 again it would either be because of injuries or a highly disappointing finish where some of these young guys aren't as good as we thought. I'd be more surprised by a bottom 3 finish than I would a play in appearance. But the team still has some spacing and shooting issues so I dont think they are there yet.

Also don't think this is our final roster.

Well I'm glad Weaver was already going with the no big splash offseason because I think not giving Ayton a max was most likely right move, and now Bridges is a POS, and we wouldn't have been in on any other top guys

that part doesn’t matter. He still would have got suspended even if he did it the day after signing a contract.

Don't see a world where Duren and Stewart start together unless Stewart jump shot comes around a ton where he is a reliable shooter. Think he could be a solid bench big, don't think he really is a starting 5 on a super competitive team
