I realize this isn’t going to be a welcomed point but uhh putting 300,000 troops on the border of Russia seems like one hell of a show of force https://www.militarytimes.com/news/2022/06/27/nato-to-boost-reaction-force-ukraine-support/
I read another article earlier today that said the bill of the 300,000 will be in their home countries and just have the ability to mobilize within 48 hours to 6 months
That would be terrifying just jogging along minding your own business and a mall explodes right next to you
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_Day_(Ukraine) Was today, celebrating the ratification of their constitution in 1996.
This hasn't been talked about much in the last few weeks seemingly, this is still a massive story right? I sorta expected NATO to throw up roadblocks because of Russia's saber-rattling but it doesn't seem to be the case.
I believe Turkey (sorry, I don't recall how they want it spelled now and I'm too lazy to look it up) was the only road block at some point.
yes and they got a bunch of concessions to say yes- basically off the shit list after they bought S-400's now
makes sense. Erdogan is vile so I hate him getting anything he wants but having the Swedes and Finns in NATO is worth it
In the latest Snake Island saga, Ukraine used advanced western supplied artillery to obliterate the Russians on the island over two consecutive days. Supposedly they used Ceasar's and some sort of super gun Ukraine developed prewar- so basically they just pummeled the place with shells from the coast. Russia MOD announced they are no longer going to be occupying Snake Island as a sign of "GOOD WILL" to the world. I'm not sure anything is left alive on that island- so many people have died (Russian & Ukr) fighting for that damn island its stupid
Also Western Artillery is pretty badass, I’m pretty shocked at how much better the French and German stuff is than the Russians
Historically German military equipment is very much a mixed bag because, yes, it works incredibly well when it works, but it's so overengineered and precision designed that when it breaks (and military stuff in combat gunna break) it can't be field repaired, and producing new ones takes a really long time.
yeah was definitely thinking about how complex their ww2 tanks were and the "superweapons" specials that history channel had for Germany's weapons and later stage things that were researched but never used.
Next month should be really interesting: 1) UKR will get pushed out in the East but Russia is exhausting itself there in the process 2) Western Artillery and Himars are going to start having a huge effect now that they are rolling out. Every week that goes by Ukraine adds more pieces and trained men to the field on these systems. USA is going to keep giving UKR them as needed once the training catches up- it’s not going to be only 4 HIMARS 3) Rumored MIG29’s from Hungary and other countries are supposedly being delivered which should be huge over Kherson area 4) Britain and Canada begin their rapid training program- something like 5,000 troops a week will be trained and delivered I believe is what I read. This should greatly reinforce depleted UKR forces in the East in the future. Curious what Russia will do to counter once they start feeling these effects
Russia just bombarded the shit out of the east, what are they going to occupy? Won’t ukraine just now return the favor?
history channel was always kinda gross how they glossed over the fact that most of those "superweapons" were constructed by death camp slave labor.
Point number 2… how much of an effect? Will it allow Ukraine to regain territory and push the Russians back?
no not without huge amounts of troops but it can rapidly degrade RUS offensive firepower such as mlrs and artillery with accurate strikes from out of counter fire range
Complete agree on #1- Russia seems to be making steady gains no matter what Ukraine does in the east. I haven't done a John Madden map in a few months so here is a current update: Map in spoilers due to size Key: -The Green circles are the two key fighting areas right now. -In the east Russia continues to make steady gains and keeps trying to encircle the pocket of ukranian defenders. Ukraine has been doing a fighting retreat/pullback for a week or two now. -The other green circle is around the Kherson area in the south west. Ukraine has been pushing quite hard here and has been making slow gains over the past few weeks to retake the kherson area. This is key as it blocks Russia from pouring into the middle of Ukraine, keeps them from really doing anything to Odesa (largest port in Ukraine), and if Ukraine can push it all the way back to Crimea it would cut off a vital land bridge for russia.-The Red line- unless something changes it seems likely that russia will eventually get to this point. This would mean they gain control of the two breakaway oblasts they are saying they want (Luhansk and Donetsk). This area is favoring russia right now and Ukraine has a ton of work to do if they want to stop the slow russian advance. -The Blue line - this line seems to be favoring Ukraine at the moment but Ukraine is primarily focused in the Kherson area. The rest of the line is somewhat stable due to the rivers but it does seem like Ukraine should be able to keep making gains here unless something changes. Spoiler
