Minnesota plays for the best trophies in college football. They’re everybody’s best frenemy. In part, because they almost always lose.
no one watches their games. that’s where this is going. if it was about trophies and traditions then Nebraska etc never would’ve left the Big 12 a decade ago. when these conferences run out of brands they can get to add value, they will get rid of brands that don’t to increase their average revenues
Beyond that though they bring the least amount of eyes among the OG group, 3rd biggest brand in their state. Plus no big time success to fall back on
Maybe i'm reading it wrong but i'm pretty sure it's any tv revenue you receive, you have to send to the ACC. So if FSU left, whatever money they get from the SEC/Big 10, would go to the ACC. ie FSU gets no tv revenue until 2036 (but of course them, miami, and clemson leaving would probably start the fold of the conference regardless)
I gotta think Oregon and Washington would boost the TV numbers in a positive direction and not dilute it any further but who knows.
Do Illinois alum care though. Chicago is so big and such a melting pot of various B1G alumni that it's not like that market would lose interest in B1G sports. Really though...what are we talking about here...no one is leaving or getting kicked out of this conference.
So ND joins B10 who gets the last spot? Seems like another west coast team since ACC off the table. Do they take Stanford for academic prestige or go Washington or or Oregon?
that reads that their money accrued elsewhere would be, contractually obligated, given to the ACC. but its not like the guy tweeting that is the brightest bulb.
Prolly BS, but Makes sense to add more west coast teams if you are adding USC/UCLA. better locations, easier travel, and flexibility for late kicks
18 teams (including Oregon/ Washington) with 1 protected rival and then all else rotating would be pretty tight imo. Would suck to lose some annual rivalries but those are some awesome games, stadiums, etc regardless of how the schedule shakes out.
Kansas was a non-starter for the B1G last time around but obviously things could be different this time around
Nine years ago, we were in a conference with Memphis and Temple. Now we're in a conference with USC and UCLA. Just lol.
Conferences should have to change names any time a team is added or leaves. Based on teams that have recently changed names (guardians, commanders…) we’d get some entertainingly bad conference names.
