Went to a wedding in Spain last weekend, probably the most diverse, international party I’ll ever be a part of. Bride was from Norway, groom from Wisconsin, met in college at a highly regarded liberal arts university in Minnesota. 26 nationalities represented at the wedding. I spoke with folks from Malta, Georgia, Spain, Portugal, UK, Norway, Columbia, etc. pretty amazing gathering. We tried to stay away from politics as much as possible and for the most part did a good job, but it did slide into conversations occasionally. All felt the US took a huge step backwards the last several years. Several comments were made about avoiding school in the US and looking elsewhere if an equal opportunity presented itself. Feel it’s obvious the vast majority of folks are well to do, intelligent and highly educated. Most were highly successful. All were very aware of US politics, more so than I’d imagine the average citizen. Mind you this was before this weeks rollout of awful decisions, I could only imagine what folks are thinking now. It’s honestly embarrassing as we continue to travel through Europe to say that I’m American. Or feel that I have to answer for the shit that’s happening back home.
I was on a European vacation a few weeks ago and all everyone wanted to ask was why we were so weird about guns. Can’t even imagine now what it’d be like after this shit.
