I have completely given up on AL ABC. They had EC and 4R BP picks this month and instead of releasing them at the participating stores and putting them at a 1 bottle per day cap, it is apart of the monthly limited release where you have to wait in line for at least two hours to get one. Fuck the AL ABC people right up the ass
Just moved to Atlanta…Any resources you guys can share? Best stores, IG/FB pages to follow, best practices, etc??
I’m in northeast Buckhead. I went to Tower on piedmont the other day which was nice aside from the two armed guards.
Had an oh shit moment two nights ago pouring from the monkey. The cork broke, but I was able to fish out the part stuck in the neck without issue. I also had an empty bottle of blue note that has the same size cork, so crisis averted, but not the original top.
I’ve similarly lost a lot of interest in bourbon since they started the monthly release. Not even fun to “hunt” anymore since everything gets released once a month and announced in advance
It was inevitable; too much insider information being shared. One group I was in knew bottle count and location for allocated bottles a week ahead of time. There were others with similar info.
Yeah I've lost a lot of interest. If I can get a good bottle cool, but I'm not going out of my way anymore.
I used to love dropping by the lesser known stores and randomly finding bottles. All of that is gone now. People camping out Thursday morning before Saturday release in some cases.
People show up at 5am on Saturdays at a local store to see if maybe they got some Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace in. I feel like bourbon hunting has become a parody of itself.
Only thing I look for is ECBP now a days. And when I say look, I mean search online for shipping or wait for bevmo to drop it online and purchase it for pickup.
Terrible system This is kinda fucked up. A week ahead of the monthly list being released? This is how I feel
One bottle I am curious about is Old Carter. Someone tell me it’s not one to chase after, or if it is, which of their products is more highly regarded between bourbon, American whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, etc. Speaking of, went back to a Benash store pick Barrell the other night and was so put off by the Dickel note. Don’t remember that the first time I tried it, very big let down.
Most bottles of Old Carter sit on shelves in Louisville. I've heard some are decent, not sure anyone has actually told me they're worth the $ though.
I strongly prefer their American whiskey to the bourbon I tasted. I have a bottle of each. The AW is excellent. Next time I send something to you remind me and I will send samples.
Has anyone tried the new Woodford Masters Collection? It's 118 proof this year and local shop just got some in. Debating if it's worth the $130.
This was before they did the monthly release and it was allegedly random. The group knew 280 and MT Brook was getting X and what day they were going to put them out. There guys who knew the distributors and were tipped off when bottles were delivered to stores.
It has but be were are all apart of it. It's just like like the people stuck in traffic complaining about traffic.
Anyone have the Four gate stuff? I have an opportunity to get a bottle but the MSRP is a little high. N
I’ve been waiting to crack my monkey until next Wednesday when my 10 week Sabbatical begins. First glass will be had without a cigar, second with. Very much looking forward to it.
My store did a barrel pick of Knob Creek. Snagged a bottle of that to see what it's all about. Don't think I've had a single barrel KB before. Also grabbed the Triple Mash Jack Daniels as I've heard really good things about it.
I am guessing I have missed something. What did I say I was going to do and have now forgotten and not done it?
A buddy is part of a bourbon club here in the area and I went over and had some pours with him earlier this week. They were delicious. Not pictured: Blanton's barrel pick Enjoyed the EC18 the most. The Handy was smooth for it's proof and being rye. The Blanton's was delicious but I'd put it behind the other two. Also, the rum was a solid addition.
feels weird how suddenly buffalo trace disappeared off shelves around here, when last month could still go in a store and pick up a bottle or two.
