You mean the guy with the most wins in your school’s history who left because he thought Lsu had a higher ceiling? Or the guy that’s coaching a program that won a NC just 3 years ago despite a total liability at HC?
All that said, look for ND to try to keep as many OOC games scheduled with teams in Texas and Florida. Because they’re both TH market and rich, alumni base heavy for us.
I think you’re wildly overestimating how much we care about Brian kelly or how we’ll “react” to these posts. Lsu May have a higher ceiling but they’re finding out quickly how much it sucks having him as a hc trying to recruit. We’re kicking their ass out there and would have equal or superior talent level to him if we meet on the field. And having watched him for 10 years, we know how those games go for BK coaches teams
you started this by going to war for the big ten and now you are switching to sec narratives. Impressive work.
He also said he wouldn't even have to leave the state to recruit at LSU. Pop over to the recruiting site of your choice and check the receipts so far. BTW, there's a good chance we're close to landing a LB whose dad works for LSU athletics and a CB whose HS coach is now on BK's staff. Both obviously with LSU offers and top targets for them. Our recruiting is going much better than any time during BK's tenure. Brian Kelly is a hell of a coach. He's great at building a winning culture and at game day/gameplanning. But he's a lazy and unwilling recruiter who has consistently made excuses to explain the "ceiling." Turns out the ceiling was of his own doing. I think he'll win there. But if he thinks just simply having that recruiting footprint will get him to Bama/Georgia levels without putting in the work, he's dead wrong.
This guy has already confirmed all my fears in less than 24 hours about being associated with Rutgers in any respect . Bravo
Equal or superior? You couldn’t get half of LSU’s roster to qualify at ND. And if your talking about current recruiting classes, please take a look at your calendar.
Care to agree to a 1 year board ban bet that ND will end up with a higher ranked class as of the February signing day than LSU?
I think the point being made was ND vs. Clemson, FSU or Miami to the SEC. In that case, yes, ND is the only team that would change viewership, because it’s the only team not already in the existing SEC footprint
Hey, Mark Dantionio lost to Brian Kelly and won the Big 10 the same year once. And he clearly did not have any deeper issues whatsoever.
Or because ND draws in the top 5 in TV viewers year after year? Maybe that might matter just a tiny bit? That board ban bet offer is real, btw. If you really believe what you're saying.
Between that post, the Quinn/Sampson exchange and a few other well placed tweets from national media members, it sure looks like ND is beginning to soften the landing.
It seems I’ve stirred up a bee hive. How about this- you guys are going to join the B1G and like it, or be left out of the party. I don’t really care which, because your program is clearly on a different level. But to sit here and act like you guys hold all (or any of) the cards is delusional arrogance.
To suggest that Notre Dame, with the eyeballs that it draws, would ever be left holding the theoretical bag, is the real delusion. The rush really doesn't exist because there is no time horizon that would leave us out in the cold. We have the leverage. I mean what are you even talking about?
The conferences are waiting on a nd decision to move forward. rutgers fans’ reaction-> i knew nd did not hold any cards, let’s go troll their thread lol. how can you say that nd doesn’t hold any cards?
The only real rush is the B1G's because they want the TV deal to get done sooner rather than later. Guess who that gives leverage to? Oops
If you're paying attention, you'll see most ND fans pretty much on board with the B1G now that it's a national conference. I'm not sure where you're getting the arrogance. But I guess I'll put on my arrogant hat for a second and humor you. Make no mistake about it, ND is not only the big prize out there, we have been since before the expansions started years back. Now....recruiting board ban offer? I mean, you had the arrogance to come into here and brag to us about our ceiling. Back it up.
I think the more likely scenario is that ND will come to the party whenever it wants and then the B1G will eventually trim the fat and kick Rutgers out
all of them, stay independent, join the big ten or join the sec. Obviously staying independent now would be a bit of a precarious situation for football.
Hah! So leverage for a week or two until the B1G has to move on to other additions vs. the leverage of knowing its going to be 2 super conferences and you need to get into one or be left out. I think the latter is more compelling. Plainly, the B1G and SEC don’t need ND, though it would be a great property to have, but ND certainly needs one of those two conferences.
IDK man, having the same amount of wins in 2021 as your program has had in the last 4 years combined. You’ve had double digit wins twice in 108 years of football
I had to look at LSU’s current class. It’s not good and I don’t know enough about who they have a shot at. Maybe you guys and up with a better class, you did last year.
no, it would spill over here and there would be at least 10 misinformed guy like him randomly coming in here
And there’s nothing big businesses love more than completely avoidable, precarious positions. The only thing about ND that fits into SEC culture is the fact that it’s located in Indiana, which, if succession were to occur today, would def end up in the confederacy
Nobody believes us when we say Brian Kelly doesn't recruit and is not good at setting strategy for it. It was not sour grapes when we said it. He actually hired some strong recruiters and some guys along the way who are great at player development. And, as I mentioned, he's a good GameDay coach who built a winning culture. BUT, you came into our thread and made the argument that his citing our ceiling when he left somehow validated our being irrelevant. One-he left because LSU is paying him more than ND thought he was worth, and 2. He was responsible for more of his ceiling than he would admit. He's going to find that out quickly at LSU if something doesn't change. Saban doesn't recruit well because he's at Alabama and close to a lot of accessible talent. It helps, but he's successful because he's smart as hell and works his ass off.
So assuming thr b1g goes to pods like the acc did our 3 permanents would be usc michigan and sparty right? Or would we get purdue in the place of one of the michigan schools?
Yes. I have a blazing take about Texas realizing it makes no sense to join the regional SEC and joining the Big 10 instead. I need somewhere to put it.
drewru In case you're wondering if we actually hold any cards. Phil Knight's program is in a holding pattern waiting on our decision.
Probably not Michigan if I had to guess. Locking USC and Michigan as annual opponents would be pretty imbalanced as far as schedule difficulty goes, ditto for Michigan locking in ND and Ohio State.
It’s funny how the narrative on Kelly has changed in ND circles since he left. I’m not saying you or anyone here defended him, but last year, when questions of his recruiting came up, there were plenty of ND folks who spun the narrative that he was more of a CEO/closer type and they were fine with his approach. How he’ll do at LSU, I don’t know and you could be right. However, it’s tough to ignore the fact that ND just can’t get certain kid’s qualified that SEC schools can. And I never said ND was irrelevant, but I do believe it would be much less relevant going forward if it doesn’t join one of the two conferences. Lastly, I appreciate you guys- youre all making my current flight much more enjoyable. Thank you.
