Every local reporter has said the same thing... It's no secret that the cubs are going to trade him in the next few weeks. This team is multiple years away from contending and if they can get a huge return for Wilison you move him. Catchers generally don't age well...
Correct a serious window for contention probably doesn't start till 2024. I would imagine that we continue to add pieces via the free agent market this off-season. I wouldn't expect to be world series contenders but possibly playoffs. And a real window opening in 2024 if development does what they expect it to do. So like I said we are multiple years away from being a legit contender. I've long been an advocate for trading Wilson. Giving him 20-25m avv at age 31 and being a catcher... no thanks. Appreciate what he's done for the team... But go get a couple of high end prospects for Wilson and lets move on.
Wait why are you adding free agent pieces next season if you don’t want to hold on to the best players you already have? Cubs have a $105 million payroll next season and $69 million after that.
Why are you this way? Your take that paying a 31 year catcher who isn't good defensively and probably needs to be moved off the position, 20 to 25m AVV given the current and projected state of the franchise is a good idea... what a take. If Wilson wants #1 catcher in baseball money its insane for anyone to pay him that. His history suggests he's probably 5-8 range and that was in his prime years. Paying him huge money on the downside of his career is just bad business. It's probably best for this franchise to land two premium prospects and move on.
it’s not huge money, it’s just not. 20 mil a year for 4 years is nothing. They just gave stroman 23.6 mil a year. I’m sure the Rickett’s will use the $20 mil they don’t pay contreras to wage a campaign against abortion and gay rights so I guess money well spent right
You can hate the Ricketts, and simultaneously think the front office is going about this the right way. For me, unless you plan on moving Willson off of catcher, he's a no brainer to trade. Frankly, he's doing us a favor having his best year in a season where offense is at an all time low. His value is huge right now, and there's several suitors, like the Yankees, who have a lot like of top flight prospects.
I mean...what's the thought process of continuing to play him? He's not going to produce enough to get anyone to trade for him, and he's potentially taking ABs away from guys who might actually contribute to the team going forward.
Was outside of Wrigley for the first time in a couple years, wow has it changed a bunch. Pretty cool that a bunch of kids were just hanging out watching Clifford outside the park on a Tuesday afternoon.
I've got no clue at this point. Even if a young gun isn't ready you still are benching a guy like Frazier who if he gets hot could land us a prospect.
It's time to start discussing the draft and the trade deadline... So who do we want at #7? I keep seeing Collier projected to the Cubs, and I'd be good with that pick. Contreras is going to get us a real haul, I think. Whose system nets us the best haul? I think I want to work a trade with the Yankees...mostly because of the possibility of Jasson Dominguez's drop in prospect profile could make him attainable. I doubt it, but one can dream.
Bless you guys who give attention to this major league roster. My cubs life is solely prospect life. I’m done watching this roster till some of the legit prospects arrive full time.
Honestly, only guys I care about on the big league roster are Happy, Contreras, and Morel, and Suzuki and the only reason I really care about Contreras is because his success can net us a haul. The other guys are likely here for the rebuild. Also love Hendricks, but if he turns it around, he will probably be dealt too.
As a fan I just want them to pick a direction an go that way. Trade Hendricks and Contreras and get a good haul and start a complete rebuild, PCA, Davis, Caissie, and Alcantara are all or have showed us they should be average or above average major leaguers. Or keep Kyle and Contreras and add, but let’s not sit in limbo the next couple years and we are right back to this stage. All this talk of us signing a big name this off season would be stupid if we trade off two other pieces.
It seems like it will either be Collier, Parada, or Lee and will just depend on who of those are available at 7. Id prefer Collier as I think he has the highest ceiling in the draft. After that I’d want Lee then Parada.
That was a very enjoyable win. https://www.milb.com/player/matt-mervis-670223 This guy might be a prospect to start paying attention to. Started at South Bend this year and posted a .1039 OPS. He’s been at AA for 35 games now and has a 1.002 OPS. Like many prospects that hit for power like he does he needs to work on his K rate but if he keeps this up he likely gets a call up to Iowa in the next couple weeks.
I keep dozing in and out and every time I wake up I think I’m watching an 11:00 purdue NW football game
WTF, how long is Boog going to be gone. I can tolerate Beth Mowins voice once a season during big ten football but day after day like this is torture.
I've seen the mocks having him fall to 6. Collier seems like he's a pirate at 4 or cub at 7. In all reality the draft is loaded and we shouldn't be able to fuck this up
