Honestly the thought to kick Buttgers out never crossed my mind. We should do it. An idiot friend of mine made a well documented claim when they joined the B1G that they'd be a respectable program within 5 years. We have been roasting him for the last decade over it and them getting kicked would be the cherry on top. I don't even really care what it would do for the conference, it would just be hilarious in our group chat Hopefully Kevin Warren reads this post and takes note.
Can we swap Buttgers and Maryland for UNC and maybe Duke? Will they continue to be important post Coach K?
I'm willing to give Maryland a little bit more rope because at least they're historically decent at basketball and they get decent football commits sometimes. Plus they beat Texas in back to back years
If wanting a basketball rivalry that's pretty much considered one of the greatest in the world regardless of sport in our conference is wrong then I don't know what's right That being said I don't know what will become of Duke post Coach K.
Basketball doesn’t move the needle for conference rights deals the way that football does. Duke is and, as long as the good lord Phil Knight permits it, will be a top draw for basketball, but the only way we’re getting pulled up in conference tiers is if one of them wants UNC enough and UNC demands it. The graveyard of rivalries, particularly in basketball, leaves me with no misimpressions about the likelihood of that happening.
Markets and market access will never not matter. It matters less today but it will always be a major factor.
Wonder if the big 10 and sec have clauses in their contracts where they can dissolve if a huge majority votes for it. They should just do that and make a proper fox and espn conference without the existing dead weight (vandy, rutgers, a&m, etc.). I bet fox and espn would prefer that anyways.
I would rather have two subpar B1G programs parked just outside NYC and DC than one in West Lafayette, IN.
My self worth is directly related to the amount of money the school I love but never attended makes but never spends on its student athletes. So right now I’m hard as fuck.
Keep that Rutgers hate coming boys. Those of you in some peasant conference, your envy sustains us. If you just demanded respect the way we did, maybe you’d be in a better situation.
Alabama and Georgia UNC and Clemson (ND if they count) Ohio State and USC Washington and Stanford Who cares about the Big 12
Of the current (as of 2022) conferences: ACC: FSU and Clemson B1G: Michigan and Ohio State Big 12: Texas and Oklahoma PAC: USC and UCLA SEC: Bama and Georgia, though Florida has a strong argument.
Agree with this except UNC for FSU. First at large selections would be ND, LSU, and UF in some order.
claims that the big ten are eyeing stanford and it’s dozens of fans should be an automatic tell that the source is trash
I believe Stanford with the caveat they are only needed to get ND, but also giving a bit more support to USC/UCLA
Conferences look at prime matchups like adding more big ratings inventory. USC vs OSU, Michigan, PSU, MSU, Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska will do national numbers. UCLA and the first 3-4 of those teams will also do national numbers. This is why Notre Dame is the next domino in all of this realignment. Everyone else is going to have to wait until ND makes their move.
no because if Clemson isn’t good no one cares about them outside of their fanbase if ucla is 3-9 they still carry a huge amount of eyeballs nationally
I'm skeptical that all things equal, UCLA is a bigger draw than Clemson. But then I'm just a stupid clay eater.
Do sports outside of football begin to matter whatsoever in all this? If so, I get the UCLA and Stanford inclusions. Not to mention the academic angle.
