I live in the Chicago suburbs and was on my way to my suburban 4th of July parade right when happened with my 6 year old son. Yesterday was a depressing day but that story is one that just hits too close to home.
September 2019someone called the police on the highland park shooter because he had a bunch of knives and was threatening someone with them. Highland Park PD took the knives, and notified the state police. He had no FOID card or application so the state police didn’t do anything. He then applied for and got a FOID card and bought guns. State Police fucked up.
That destroyed me as a dad of a three year old. I get nervous when my son walks by himself into a different room let alone being abandoned for his entire fucking life.

Heard earlier on the news that he blended into the mass of people running from the scene, got to his moms house, and took her car all the way to Madison, WI. Then he came right back to the scene of the crime and was flagged.
Same here. Idea of my child walking around alone in that chaos gives me the worst feeling in my chest. That's just fucking awful.

I don't remember her name but there was a standup comic opener we saw a few weeks back that had a bit about having to prove you've recently been laid before purchasing a gun. Obviously impossible but that would have prevented a few of these.
Gut wrenching. These parents probably didn’t even want to go to the parade, but thought it would be cool for little Aiden to see the fire trucks and get him out doors. Just doing their job as parents and this fucking amazing country let them down.
My son is three and a half and I could see him saying the same thing. Heartbreaking to think about how you could explain that to him
This is a country where it isnt safe to take a three year old to see fire trucks without the risk of them becoming parent less and the response is to make guns easier to get and fight any chance at legislation. Why we haven’t burned this bitch to a crisp is beyond me.

Cops were called to his house twice in 2019 when he threatened to kill himself and all of his family and took 16 knives and swords from him. His father later sponsored him for his card to get a gun and he was able to buy them all legally because they didn’t deem him a threat.
Knives, brass knuckles, nunchucks (I’m sure); all harder to get and more deadly, according to America. We just need more guns. Toddlers with guns.
This hits pretty close to home, considering I’m from, and my daughter currently lives in, a fairly affluent suburb known for having a fairly high Jewish population and a massive 4th of July parade. This easily could have been there.
