This is my big point. I’m gonna absolutely love GOWR but it’s gonna have to really expand the gameplay loop and make some refreshing changes to dethrone ER. ER made huge changes to a successful formula that really helps make it a stand alone experience
I think 4 years is plenty of time, especially given they had a framework to build on. That said I do agree there's no guarantee this game will reach the heights of the original. Especially with out Cory leading it.
I bet you think GTA6 is going to revolutionize the gaming industry with its (checks note) 10+ years development cycle
Elden Ring is undeniably great. Like I said it's the best From game I've played. And it will almost certainly win GOTY from a lot of publications.
I’m far more ok with maintaining the formula while finishing the story strong with GOW than I felt I would be with HFW. The gameplay in GOW is absolutely stunning and the emotional heft and execution of the story was all time fantastic. Technically speaking, graphically speaking. It’s basically unrivaled console wise. Destiny maybe has a say
GoW is still one of the best looking games and it's 4 years old. Maybe the new Horizon beats it out in some regards but overall it's still close. I can't wait to see how absurd the new one looks. I remember thinking Horizon wasn't that big of a jump visually until I played it. The compression on YouTube really is shit.
I think people underestimate the impact ER is going to have on future game design. It's easily the best (so far) a true open world game has encouraged exploration and combat. Before then, I was adamant about the GoW type of open world being my favorite and the most I can handle. Anything bigger than that, like RDR2, featured the most boring exploration imo. Elden Ring showed it is possible to have a massive world and still have that world be completely engaging instead of mostly just boring filler. The big thing that keeps HFW from being on the same level as ER (even though it has incredible story, visuals, combat, and side content) is the way it was presented with a million map markers pushing you from place to place. If it would have come out way later than ER, I think they would have relied more on the natural exploration that was definitely possible to implement.
Ghost has a good art style but from just a purely technical stand point I think it's behind both of the games I mentioned. Especially when it comes to faces.
I've still never played it all the way through, I started it and enjoyed it, I'm sure someday I will go back and play it all the way through but after watching my son play it off and on for two years, I know the plot and have seen most of the big moments so I can't put it above some of the other stuff I want to experience.
The Last of Us Part 2 is the best looking game on PlayStation as far as I'm concerned, totally different style and I know it doesn't appeal to everyone but between the faces and the detail of the environments, not sure how you beat it. HFW is undoubtedly gorgeous and tops TLOU2 in some ways, but I think overall it is a close second graphically.
I’m just gonna go ahead and say your wrong on both accounts here. I think the animations and scenery pushes GOW past HFW and TLOU2 just isn’t in the conversation with the other 2
I will say though when the light is just right in Ghost and it hits a field of flowers, it is stunning. Definitely made me say wow more than once.
TLOU2 definitely has the best facial animations I've seen. But I think it's environments aren't quite on the level of GOW or Horizon. But hell it's splitting hairs with all 3. They all look stunning.
I appreciate your opinion, I don't agree but there's room in the world for all kinds of takes. There's no question that the scenery in both games surpasses TLOU2 just because its real world vs not real world. The animations are taster's choice, I think TLOU2 far surpasses either in terms of the facial work and what can be conveyed there, along with the syncing of voice work to those faces. I think a lot of the movement throughout the game world is better there too. There's certainly things the other two do better, and I think GOW far outstrips almost any other game in that time frame, I just give it to TLOU2 as better in totality.
Kratos has ruined my fiancée’s opinion of my body. As I begin to lose my hair, she points to the screen and says “get there, then shave it off.” Stupid sexy Kratos.
Some historians are of the opinion that Skoll is another name of Fenrir but who knows what they choose to do in the game until we play it
Yeah none of them make complete sense. It's going to make for some interesting family dynamics no matter who you fight (unless you fight none).
My guess is we don't fight Fenrir. Remember the first game trailers made it look like we were going to fight the world serpent.
Every From game is just the next iteration on the same thing. Not sure why GOW is being considered to a different standard.
Elden Ring is the only From game I’ve played so I couldn’t say either way just know it’s the best game I’ve played in a long time
We’re just impressed with the Miyazaki makes what he wants and it doesn’t matter how much money is thrown at him. All the while he sets trends and makes legendary games by most peoples standards. I get you’re a heavy triple a guy but I’m really not and the people that enjoy From games usually really appreciate the effort and product put forth and can look passed the technical flaws because the games scratch an itch that most don’t. From fans can be silly as well I agree. It’s just kinda wild we love the best games on the market (easily) while people waste years of their lives playing destiny
You made some decent points until the end when and went and got petty instead. The fact that you think they are the best games is purely your opinion. Just like mine is that the movement and gameplay feels janky in them which prevents me from appreciating them to the extent others do.
I went petty. Only because I feel like you did as well. Like what you like brother. I’ve got thousands of hours on Destiny as well
Movement has always been a little janky but from's level design is the best of any game series ever. Taking that to an open world while still maintaining that elite level design is one of the more impressive feats I've seen a game studio do because it didn't seem like it was possible to do in an open world before elden ring. Having said that all the criticism about elden ring are true but if you grew up playing their games then those things don't bother you as much because you're used to them. I can see why it would be a problem for newcomers to the series tho
Destiny is definitely not mid. I appreciate the opinion but you’d have to immerse yourself in it to know the truth. I play a ton of COD as well so grade of saw and whatnot. it’s weird to me because I love the movement in From games immensely (especially Bloodborne) but have to hold the L on that because it’s such a popular opinion
From games have a certain way they play, no? I don’t know how what I said is wrong or lame. I think it’s fair to say that within five minutes of playing a person can tell if it’s a ElderSoulsBourne game.
no, instead of releasing a new giant tentpole game that people enjoy, companies are just gonna remaster every game that has ever been made and YOU WILL LIKE IT
Destiny is always pretty great with new seasons and DLC, but it fades fasssssssssssst. Like to the point there's no reason to keep playing week after week.
I just saw that the *Standard Edition* TLOU remaster for PS5 is $70. I mean, it’s a great game, but fuck shelling out full price for a couple of tweaks here and there.
