i think they announced that one late and i am not able to get up there. I feel like the Orange Peel just scheduled a ton of shit out of nowhere the last few weeks. i get every calendar email and never saw these until too late.
how is their new facility? lived in the apartment right on the other side of the tracks from the new one and just never went. enjoyed the old site and which is now a church apparently
Heading back again this weekend. Eating at Curate and Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse. any new cocktail places open in the last 10 months?
Feel like it would be easier to update the OP with a solid list of places for food and drinks over answering the same question every couple of weeks, no?
I was literally there yesterday. Hope it isn't the beginning of the end, but I also understand how much he means to the soul of the place. Hopefully it works out.
We really enjoyed it. The snapper crudo app was one of the best things I’ve ever had. Also got crab rice, lobster roll (as good as any I’ve had in the northeast), beef tartare, and fried clam strips. Great cocktails and service as well. We left agreeing that it’s probably up there with Limones as our favorite spot now.
Wife and I are heading to Asheville tomorrow morning for our annual camp pickup. Staying at the Grove Park Inn. Chai Pani for lunch. Terrace Restaurant at Grove Park Inn for dinner Wednesday. Thinking ELDR for dinner on Thursday night. Anyone been? Thoughts? My wife also says Vinnies Neighborhood Italian has good reviews. But I don’t want to get raped.
Wife and I headed up for our anniversary in a few weeks. Gonna hike and eat and hump. We go somewhere or other most anniversaries. Last couple have been to places with legal weed (Portland, Boulder). I see there are places selling the Delta-9 stuff there. I've never tried it. Is it any good? We sure like eating dummies and going hiking. I've read a good piece of the thread but not its entirety. Would love some hiking recs.
Never done Delta 9, but you can find it at the head shops around town. How strenuous / how long of a hike are you looking for?
I'd like to go bigger but wife is typically limited to a few hours, 5-7 miles, maybe 1250' climb or so...?
Crud yeah. We're enthused about the beer options out yonder and would love recs for that intoxicant as well!
drove by my old place a couple weekends ago and was curious what rent had gotten to was at avalon on sweeten creek right there down the street from rockys. september 2019 i was paying $1000 for a 2 bed room. its now at $1700. my broke ass roommate from then is likely dead on the street now paying those prices
Burial and Wicked Weed are the must stops. Both those are in the core downtown area. Sierra Nevada is super cool, has a whole campus, but is ~30 min drive from downtown. Then there are new ones opening every week. Tough to go wrong. Bottle shop selection and draft menus around town are great too
I'm the pragmatist who eats a $7 meal from Chick Fil A once in a while even though I disagree with their company values
Bhramari probably has the best food of any brewery I’ve been to. I could eat my weight in the Cheshire pork rangoons.
Locals protested them for a month or too. Then they realized locals still worked there, and their beer was good
wicked weeds owner iirc was a notorious silver spoon dipshit but he hired some good brewers and chefs trying to do ethical consumption is folly though, the way our food systems are run from grain to table is varying levels of exploitative so i'm not going to lose sleep enjoying some wicked weed beers
I don’t think it’s an ethical consumption dilemma, it’s choosing to support independent breweries and not the Walmart of beer. I’m sure their beers are still very good, I don’t think they’re better than what Dissolvr, Burial, or Bhramari or putting out though, and I’d rather support breweries that are still local.
yeah one of my true hot takes is I don't really find the fetishization of small business to be something I care about, micro-capitalists are toxic as hell if the beers good i'm game
Yeah, they obviously aren’t hurting since they’re just as full as anyone whenever I pass by. Just personal preference.
Kent Pavelka we typically do easy morning hikes before grabbing lunch and brewery hopping, so these might not be as arduous as you’d prefer but we always really enjoy craggy gardens and rattlesnake lodge. The North Carolina arboretum is also close by and has some really nice trails and beautiful exhibits (bonsai garden ftw).
Yeah, I'm with you. Haven't been or drank their beer since it happened. It's not really that they sold out. It's that they were super anti-sell out and got customers doing that and then turned around and sold out. Can't be a hypocrite, IMO. Your mileage may vary.
Last time I was there (November), I went with a friend whose uncle is a Grand "Master" or whatever of bonsai. He works at the arboretum and goes all over the world doing it. We went to his house and went through his greenhouse and garden. It was awesome.
