https://www.businessinsider.com/tes...awing-job-offers-2022-6?utm_source=reddit.com Tesla is laying off workers who only just started and withdrawing employment offers as Elon Musk's job cuts begin
Saw thus CNN headline the other day. Elon Musk says he's worried about keeping Tesla out of bankruptcy https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/06/23/cars/elon-musk-tesla-losses-bankruptcy-threat/index.html
You can trust just about nothing he says as true. If he’s saying their going bankrupt it’s probably because he wants to buy some more stock at a discount
Another couple people dead because Tesla’s self driving technology still hasn’t figured out white 18 wheelers. If you watch the documentary you know this is a big issue and has cost numerous lives. Wonder when Tesla will be forced to remove the feature.
I’ve never been in a Tesla so I don’t really know how it works but can you override the self driving and slam on the brakes or are you just fucked and it drives you into the semi?
In theory, that should disable it. But also in theory it should have had a sensor pick up the giant wood and metal box in front of it.
Pretty sure you can take control but people buy into it being self driving and completely stop paying attention and then they die.
for sure that’s what I figured and why I’m not sure I could ever fully trust a car to drive itself and not kill me eventually
Elon Musk’s Crash Course It came out a few months ago. You can stream it on Hulu. https://www.npr.org/2022/05/20/1100...times-fx-hulu-twitter-tesla-self-driving-cars
I do wonder how many crashes have been saved because of auto pilot though? I'm sure no one here text and drives or looks at their phone but for people that do, and are doing that with autopilot on (not talking completely stop paying attention, but glancing down variety), then I would imagine it's much safer than the people doing that without autopilot.
Yep, it’s easy to take back over. My guess is the car was in the right lane and followed the solid white line straight into the rest area. I have no clue what the heck these people were doing to allow this to happen as the car requires a torque input to the steering wheel every 15-30 seconds. TL;DR it never should have been marketed as autopilot because people are dumb. Depending on the age of this Model S, it would require a push back on the lower left stalk as the right stalk is the shifter.
I didn't read the article, but I also wondered this. Did the driver put it in auto-mode and fall asleep? How do you go into a rest stop and not feel the need to be alert? Did they not intend to go to the rest stop?
That’s what I don’t get. Even when I’m using it, I still check the dash to verify it’s picking up both lane lines and the car/truck in front of me.
Jesus, those are bad. Honestly I've been guilty of not paying close enough attention with auto pilot while on the highway. I've had the car for 2 years and it has literally been perfect on the highway. I wasn't aware of this white truck issue though, definitely going to be better about my attention while using it in the future.
Maybe it’s a classic Elon prank where he switched the code to specifically run into white box trucks haha pwnd
my biggest annoyance is the phantom braking it's caused me to turn it off for the rest of a drive bc I didnt wanna get rear ended
Most car manufacturers have collision detection and auto-breaking features, and I bet they don’t have this white semi problem.
Waymo ceo thinks Elon just got it wrong and will never develop true auto pilot the way he’s trying to. https://www.google.com/amp/s/arstec...o-ceo-tesla-is-not-a-competitor-at-all/?amp=1
Was riding with friend in his Tesla on the new I4 toll road going north to Sanford and it just kept reading the speed limit as 35 and slamming the brakes from 70 to 35. Just horrible and scary.
My car (ford) slows from 55 to 45 with one terribly placed exit ramp sign that I know all about, but other than that I’ve never had an issue with improperly recognizing speed in 28k miles. No signs that I know of in the US, Canada or Europe use a flat-top three. It’s nuts how a software company is this bad at software.
Latest update gives the green light chime for free. Such a great feature when I did a test drive that I didn’t wanna pay for FSD but would’ve paid for it separately
I’ve thought this myself for a long time. It’s hard not to read the move from radar to cameras-only as anything other than hubris and a boneheaded zealotry for an ideal. I’m not a programmer by any means but you can’t convince me a vision-first system with radar/LiDAR inputs informing it wouldn’t be better. Volvo/Polestar are leading the way on this and should be rolling out in 2024 model year, iirc

Possibly the most true statement made on TMB. A lot of reallllly bad takes itt. Where Eagles Dare and @ksim14 looking at you. Bumping so it doesn't get archived.
The first couple pages are just filled with vibes I want to find the first GK post itt to see how far back the hate goes I’d also like to thank GK for Musk blackpilling me years before it was cool
He posted about this dislike in threads prior to this one. https://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/google-v-uber.168840/page-2#post-11807669
Some woof takes on the first page but to be fair you had to really look deep to see what a liar musk is
