Draft is Thursday and I’m still all about Kasper at 8. But that said, I truly don’t have any player I would hate us taking, so this should a nice, relaxing night. If I had to make a list of guys beyond Kasper, it would go Savoie, Nazar. Lekkermaki and Mintyukov.
If we can get him for a third, I’m in. Great analytics, just can’t finish. Worth trying him out in a new situation.
Forgot the draft is tomorrow night. Athletic has us taking Kasper. Spoiler 8. Detroit Red Wings: Marco Kasper, C, Rogle (SHL) I’ve had Kasper to Detroit pretty much since my first mock draft, so I apologize for the lack of creativity here. I just see so much that makes sense from a talent, positional and stylistic fit. If they went in a different direction my best bet would be for either Savoie, Joakim Kemell or Korchinski.
Zadina has been very bad defensively and that’s the main thing Yzerman is setting out to fix. Puljujarvi has struggled to finish but his play driving numbers are good, and that’s even in a decent sampling of minutes playing away from McDavid and Leon. He’s also been quite solid defensively. There is a huge risk of watching Zadina explode playing with a either Oiler C, but it’s also possible Puljuvari doesn’t shoot 8% again this season and he turns into a a really solid two way guy that chips in .5 PPG.
All in on Puljujarvi. We have so many damn draft picks the next couple years why not burn one on him. Edmonton probably wants an asset that will contribute now though, right? Let’s throw Hronek into the mix and see how badly we can fleece Holland.
Some dope named John Dietz who is the Blackhawks beat writer for the Daily Herald in Arlington Heights says Columbus and Detroit in on trading for Kirby Dach
I can't imagine I'd want to give up what Chicago would want in return for Dach, unless they plan on just dumping him
Yea I dont think I'm doing that if I'm wings. Id swap zadina plus for him. I was not super high on Dach his draft year and he hasn't exactly torn it up so far. I'd rather gamble on what Yzerman can get at 8 this year and keep them on a rookie deal and hold onto other assets than trade 8 plus for Dach to then pay him a new contract To be fair, this isn't me saying I don't want Dach. I just don't think I'd give up what it would likely take
8 and 15 rookie year in 64 games, last year was essentially null, and then 9 and 17 in 70 this year. I'm not sure what guy he was before that was so intriguing, other than a high draft pick that hasn't produced much.
He was very good as an 18 year old rookie. His sophomore year was headed in a positive direction, but then Chicago let him play in the WJC where he suffered a terrible wrist injury and he was just not right this year as he was working his way back.
He has shown nothing that would suggest he is worth a top 15 pick Chicago totally blowing it up. Doesn’t look like they will qualify Dylan Strome either. He’ll become a UFA
Ottawa just landed DeBrincat. They are definitely ahead of us by a comfortable margin entering next season.
I'm not saying he's not going to be good, just saying I don't think he's shown enough to take a massive swing at.
- Drafted him as a center (duh but important) - Believe he has underrated skill (also sorta duh if you take him at 8 but I get the feeling they really like the skill level)
isn’t Ottawa in the OHL ? That would be a downgrade from a league perspective. KHL is probably 3rd or 4th best in the world. If he’s not in the NHL, just keep him in the SHL for another year.
Think it depends if Yzerman really thinks he has a chance to play in NHL next year. He said tonight he thinks he is ready to contribute this year or next. Think that is Yzerman just saying that. Letting guys doing an extra year in SHL has worked. If they think he may be a chance to play in NHL at some point next year, will be easier to call him up and down if he is in America
It’s so nice to have Kasper in the fold. He played most of last year in the SHL as a 17 year old and wasn’t ever out of place. And then he hit his stride in the Playoffs and subsequently the World Chanpionships. It’ll be fun to watch him in August at the WJC. I kind of feel like he might end up sticking around for Camp and getting a few games in the preseason under his belt before heading back to Rogle. I still wouldn’t expect a huge point total for Rogle this season, as he will likely be transitioning to C full time and that league is hard for kids (look at Raymond’s D+1 season). I bet he flashes quite a bit though and ends up on the 2023 Opening Night roster.
Sorry for the multple posts. So the Blues were going to lose him in FA and dealt his rights to us for a 3rd, and now he's 1a to Ned's 1b?
Exactly. And we have had so many picks the last few years that it makes sense to weaponize some this year to add pieces that can help now.
Shoring up the D is more important no matter who is in net. It'll go a long way making goaltender play look better. But that could be a solid goaltending duo if we fix the D
What does Husso bring to Detroit? Max Bultman, Red Wings beat writer: The Red Wings' team defense had a rocky season last year, and goaltending was certainly a part of that. After Alex Nedeljkovic was excellent for the better part of his first three months in Detroit, both he and Thomas Greiss went through a prolonged, months-long stretch of struggles that coincided with the Red Wings' crash back to earth in the second half. It remains to be seen which version of Nedeljkovic is closer to reality, but by adding Husso, Detroit gets a netminder capable of either sharing the net or carrying the load if needed. His .919 save percentage this past season was excellent — though, as Detroit just saw with Nedeljkovic, it will get tougher as he leaves a contender. Other roster needs for the Red Wings Bultman: The Red Wings' main needs now are two-fold: they need to remake the left side of their blue line, and they ideally could use an upgrade at the second-line center. The latter is more negotiable, as they do have enough centers to fill out a lineup. But to take a meaningful step forward — let alone challenge for the playoffs — they need an upgrade behind Dylan Larkin. Meanwhile, on defense, the Red Wings need to make a decision on Marc Staal, but even then they'll likely need a veteran capable of playing in the top four. Why were the Blues willing to trade Husso? Jeremy Rutherford, Blues beat writer: The Blues made a good decision to get some compensation for Husso because, as much they wanted to re-sign him, they couldn't afford it. His 25 wins and .919 save percentage last season were going to earn him a nice payday as an unrestricted free agent. He got a $4.75 million cap hit with Detroit and that would've put the Blues over $10 million on their two goalies with Jordan Binnington's $6 million cap hit. They would've lost Husso on the market when it opens July 13, and this way they get a third-round pick to help stock the prospect cupboard.
Looks like Stevie going rogue again James and Buchelnikov were not rated anywhere near these slots iirc.
