Kind of crazy how early the recruiting cycle has gotten. My gut is the staff's big takeaway from 2023 is they made late charges at a couple of the real elite guys (M'Pemba, Young, Downs, etc.) but probably know we'll finish 3rd or 4th. But if you get in on a couple guys like that before they're juniors, there's a chance

2023 will be borderline wrapped in a couple months probably if Love, Ausberry, Greathouse, and Hannefin are all in with the QB situation wrapped and 1-2 late risers identified

He seems to be a real workhorse with a genuine desire to take the program to another level while learning from others. Staff wise, he’s seemingly made some great moves. Players, recruits and families all rave about him. Also seems to be a good guy in general.

Oh it’s amazing. Disconnecting for 9 days and not spending a dollar when you’re there is one of the most temporarily liberating things you can do. You’re pretty much riding a bike around a desert, doing copious amounts of drugs, looking at art, listening to music, and people just give you random food like miso soup and quesadillas just because. Some guy whipped out a griddle and served us pancakes at 4 in the morning on the dance floor

Here's how it went as I understand it - he silently committed to the staff after his solo visit where he had his big entrance into the gug then as the news of Nico's $8m offer was confirmed by his camp and other big NIL deals began to fall Dante's camp turned him towards seeking an NIL deal, ND knew CJ was going to fall soon and didn't want to play the NIL game and let him look around then he decided he wasn't interested after Carr committed - now he is going to opt for the big NIL deal at Oregon in spite of it not being where he initially intended to go

Singer saying Wingo and Tyseer Denmark (elite speed WR) are "planning" to come as well

Ryan Roberts saying that USC WR commit Jason Robinson is coming w/ his family too

Last July, Notre Dame had a big recruiting event for the 2023 class, called “Grill and Chill” where a handful of top targets made their way to campus to eat, play games and chat with the Irish coaches.

St. Louis De Smet cornerback Christian Gray, Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic linebacker Preston Zinter, Merrillville (Ind.) Andrean linebacker Drayk Bowen and Irvington (N.J.) High safety Adon Shuler were among the prospects to visit that day and later committed to the Irish.

We’re not sure if Notre Dame will call it the “Grill and Chill” again, but on July 26, the Fighting Irish staff will host somewhere around 15-20 top class of 2024 targets on campus that day, and Blue & Gold has already confirmed several of them.

Saline (Mich.) High’s CJ Carr, the No. 30 overall player and No. 5 quarterback nationally, will be in South Bend to do some recruiting. The elite Irish commit pledged to the Irish June 9, and July 26 will be his third time on campus since announcing his decision. All of the visits have been with the main purpose of recruiting other prospects, and he’ll get to do a lot of that in a few weeks.

When Carr was on campus June 5 for the Irish Invasion camp, he got to know Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy’s Kaleb Beasley. Ranked as the No. 185 overall recruit and No. 22 cornerback per the 2024 On3 Consensus, Beasley is a big-time target for the Irish who is planning to be on campus later this month. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) reads that Notre Dame is the team to beat for Beasley.

Two of the highest ranked players in the 2024 class are also expected on campus. Chicago St. Ignatius’ Justin Scott, the No. 12 player and No. 1 defensive lineman nationally, tells Blue & Gold that he’s set to check out South Bend. Scott, who On3 lists as a five-star in its own rankings, picked up an offer from Notre Dame in the spring.

St. Louis University High’s Ryan Wingo, the No. 11 prospect and No. 4 wideout in America, is expected to return to Notre Dame, but we have not 100 percent confirmed that just yet. Wingo visited Notre Dame in late June, a visit that went well. The Irish may hold an early lead for the elite talent as well.

Another top receiver target who is looking at visiting for the July 26 event is Philadelphia Roman Catholic’s Tyseer Denmark, who ranks as America’s No. 85 recruit and No. 14 wide receiver. Denmark picked up an offer from the Irish in December but hasn’t made it to campus yet. This would be a very positive development if he is able to make it in.

Notre Dame offered Hicksville (N.Y.) Holy Trinity Diocesan’s Josiah Brown on Pot of Gold day in March as a safety but have since started recruiting him as a wide receiver. Brown tells Blue & Gold that he’s set to visit Notre Dame July 26. He ranks as the No. 223 prospect and No. 20 “athlete” per the 2024 On3 Consensus.

Brown and the other receiver prospects will get to hang out with Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South’s Cam Williams, a Notre Dame commit who ranks as the No. 83 player and No. 13 wideout in the land. Williams is planning on making it to Notre Dame.

Malvern (Pa.) Prep’s Peter Jones, the No. 133 prospect and No. 8 offensive tackle in the land, is a player we believe Notre Dame is in strong position to eventually land. Jones visited Notre Dame in the spring and will return to campus later this month. Penn State looks to be the Irish’s biggest competition for Jones.

There are several other players who we’re hearing will visit Notre Dame July 26, and we will keep Blue & Gold subscribers posted on those prospects as confirmations roll in.

Throw in CJ Carr and Peter Jones and the offense might actually be better than the defense if everyone comes

in the end, NIL costed us Dante and I can't blame the kid for that. I think that's pretty cut and dry and it's what I always believed (look at the schools he visited - Miami/Oregon/A&M)

I get the reporters don't want to badmouth the kid and his family so they've been pretty tight lip about it but any idiot can see it. Thank goodness for CJ Carr!

LOL...at least Dante was honest about NIL

"At first, when I was at home, I looked up on my maps and it was a 35-hour drive and I was like 'holy moly' but of course, nobody's going to drive there," Moore said. "When I went for my official visit, I went from Detroit to Salt Lake and Salt Lake to Eugene, so it was a three-way flight, but now they found a way for you to go from Detroit to Portland, Portland to Detroit, Portland to anywhere to be honest, and it's only an hour and a half away from campus, so that's not really a big problem. NIL, of course, is going to help cover a lot of the flying, a lot of the moving you need with your family, so I'm really appreciative of NIL."

    Singer on Carr

Well, it happened. Detroit Martin Luther King class of 2023 five-star quarterback Dante Moore just announced his commitment to Oregon on Sportscenter this afternoon. Ironically enough, Notre Dame was hoping to have Moore commit to them on Sportscenter months ago from what I was told.

I'm not sure what all is appropriate to share at this time, but I will divulge a little. As far as Dante being a silent commit to Notre Dame, that's mostly semantics. Silent commitments with no intention of announcing the pledge means nothing more than the school is the leader for the kid.

From everything I was told about Dante's contact with Notre Dame, there was a very, very strong sense in the Gug that the Irish would be landing him. Heck, I had sources telling me on multiple occasions over the past few months that I was going to look like a genius with my mid-February prediction of Moore to Notre Dame.

In going back through my notes of conversations with various sources, there was so much pointing towards Dante basically being a lock to Notre Dame. Irish sources felt so good throughout the process and believed he'd commit following his late March visit. Dante's coach even spent some time at Notre Dame in the spring for a coaches clinic; he seemed to prefer his QB to land in South Bend.

I was told that Notre Dame wouldn't take a 2024 quarterback commitment until they had a decision from Moore, but Moore seemed to be slowly fading away, and CJ Carr wanted to commit. Carr is way too good to turn away when there became much more uncertainty about what Moore would do. They would've been happy to take both Carr and Moore, but that just didn't seem like a possibility. Once Carr committed, the Irish faded fast with Moore.

Up until Carr's commitment, Notre Dame sources felt great about Moore. But again, they didn't afterwards.

That's all I have for today on Dante.

Notre Dame will take a 2023 quarterback from what I'm told. I'm hearing that Notre Dame will have a difficult time making a move on Baylor quarterback commit Austin Novosad, but they'll likely give it a shot. Brock Glenn and Kenny Minchey, a Pittsburgh commit, are being looked at but no offers have gone out yet.

No update on CJ Carr reclassifying to 2023; I'm working under the assumption that he stays in the 2024 class until further notice. Regardless of what happens for Notre Dame QB recruiting in the 2023 class, you have to feel good as an Irish fan because Carr is committed.

Some rando in Sampson's replies had a good point.

This seemed over in April in retrospect when he visited LSU instead of ND's spring game, and seemed to have a different excuse for not coming to campus every week (7x7 tournament, camp, etc.) but made time for Miami, Michigan, TAMU, Oregon, etc.

Either something seriously went wrong in the March visit or he just didn't want to be here.
