Cornelius Suttree do you read New Yorker magazine? This week is their "fiction issue"

Idk if I'll subscribe again after this year because it becomes too much to keep up with, but the writing is always very good.

Only complaint is a lot of the (nonfiction) stories just kind of end somewhere. They discuss something thoroughly but don't always have a "point." Which is kind of true to life so I don't mind too much

I entered 2022 with the goal of reading more books by women. 12 straight right now, which I'm legitimately proud of

I read it in 3 sittings. My mistake was starting it, then being too busy to pick it back up for a few days. Rookie mistake.

This make me curious. Never made a conscious effort but 17 of the 39 books I’ve read so far have been by women.

Nope. Dark Matter, Recursion and Upgrade are all stand alone novels. He does have the Wayard Pines trilogy where order obviously matters. I liked it quite a bit. They made into a show on a network, Fox I think. It was just ok.

They all are very quick reads. Good summer reading.

There’s a section of Grand Rapids, MI that always makes me think of Dark Matter because one of the WTF moments happened as I was looking for a parking spot there and listening to the audiobook.

Could use a recommendation, took a couple years off from reading regularly and would like to get back in. So far this year Dune, The Martian, Artemis (read Project Hail Mary last year- and loved it),Mr. Mercedes, and currently halfway through the Thursday Murder Club, but to be honest it sucks and don't think I can finish it.

I'm not a big King fan but have read a few and they're never bad, Mr. Mercedes was alright, but wouldn't say I loved it. Really enjoyed all of Andy Weir's work, Hail Mary by far the best though. Dune was good, but a little hard to get through at times. I've read a lot of Lehane, and Michael Connolly in the past.

I'm pretty open to suggestions, like a good mystery, thriller, crime/crop drama, I guess I like Sci-Fi also with all the Weird, and Dune lately.

Looking forward to reading Snow, which is a detective novel by John Banville. So maybe a little more highbrow but should be good

Book 2 done and starting book 3. Book 1 was better. Book 2 has some interesting twists and some things I just don’t understand what the point was with the side story etc but hopefully it gets tied back in. I’m kinda mad I spoiled two of the surprises by googling the character to get some back ground I thought I missed.

I guessed zyman was Kip brother.

the whole prison thing just seemed like it did nothing. I guess the twist was pretty big that he would kill him instead of letting him be h the prisim.

There were also some times when they tried to make a joke and it was just terrible in book two can’t remember what exactly but I’m like this was super cheesy and not needed. Might be too many side stories and that aren’t moving the plot. But I really enjoy the magic aspect and I’m burning though thr bookw

A woman I work with is good friends with Diana Gabaldon. I'd never heard of her but she's written a whole bunch of fantasy books I guess. Apparently she's a really nice lady who does a lot to promote independent bookstores. So hooray for her

What are you rocking for a bookmark? Been using this ticket stub for most of 2022 and think it's pretty cool. 2013 UAB vs IU soccer. UAB set their single-game attendance record this night IIRC. Was a really cool diverse crowd

Michael Mann apparently wrote Heat 2, a sequel to the epic movie. Hmm. Doesn't seem like it's necessarily in line with my interests but could be cool
