The reality is only a program(that's not currently in the BIG or SEC) like ND can thrive and survive as an indy in the current climate. Especially as scheduling becomes harder with conferences getting larger and adding more conference games.
my guess is Oregon and Washington stay in the P12 with unequal revenue sharing and wait for a B1G invite (that may never come). the conference will be a joke from a football perspective but they can keep the money somewhat even while waiting to see what happens
So fan of Fresno State with mosquitos insults four legit best coast fanbases because tosu fan acts like tosu fan
A lot of willful ignoring of pretty clear evidence by some fan groups. If B1G wanted Ore/Wash they would have already accepted them in. You can wait out ND but if they get the NBC deal they want then for 5+ years we're probably in the status quo. No one for the B1G or SEC to grab. So you can sit in the PAC10 and make less money but be so proud of your school for sticking to its own academic kind as you slip further and further behind or you can move to a conference like the B12 that will pay more and be a much more watched product so you are better positioned in case the 2 big leagues decide to grow again in 5-10 years. Really as soon as 1-2 more PAC schools bolt its all over.
Maybe but if Oregon was the big enough brand that could be a ND type independent then they would probably have a BIG invite right now. Oregon best bet is probably seeing if they can negotiate down the exit fee from the Big 12 in case the Big 10 comes calling, but I doubt the Big 12 wants another Texas on their hands.
Bingo. And now that the SEC and B1G can dictate Playoff terms, that to me is the tipping point. If they agree on a format with only At Large teams, ND doesn’t go anywhere, and the SEC and B1G just sit back and let the other schools in the P5 sell their souls for a shot at one of those Conferences.
Problem is the B1G and SEC can’t ever agree on anything. They can force complete change pretty immediately if they could get out of their own ways.
Fair. It’s easier said than done, but since this is all about money I’m sure they will end up agreeing to some kind of split Playoff deal between ESPN and Fox. And then NBC probably gets thrown a bone for ND.
I look forward to a funky playoff scenario where each of the two power conferences gets the same amount of playoff bids, but the criteria for said bids is different from conference to conference.
Why is B12 viewed to be setup to make more money per school than the Pac? I would think with better leadership in place the PAC has the better brands at the top and would say they would be in a position to poach B12 schools if they wanted (not sure any really fit). I would think PAC TV contract split amongst 10 schools is probably as much or more than whatever the B12 is gonna get amongst 14
Outside of the PNW schools and Utah, it feels like there is general antipathy to football at the the remaining schools.
with the LA metro gone and the new schools coming in, the B12 owns more TV households and is a much better football conference as I mentioned in here, people watch their team and then they watch good games. P12 football as it stands is about to be a bunch of extremely boring games played at 11pm eastern time in front of 30k crowds
It should be canon that no matter the ROI, Washington State gains entry to the Big 12. There is no better fit when you take the money out of the equation. Make it so, Roc Nation man.
how would you rate the remaining pac10 and the post OU/Texas plus newbs b12 as far as fan bases/caring about football? I don’t think it’s as big of a gap as some think. Tv footprint by population can’t be that different either?
Stanford has like three fans and Wazzou and OSU have 40k seat stadiums. they would easily be the three least engaged fanbases in the big 12
Oregon, and especially Washington, are closer to being Oklahoma State or Baylor than a true anchor brand like USC. They are certainly the top brands available outside of ND but I think top to bottom the Big 12 has a lot more interest in their programs than the Pac-10 does.
Stadium capacity really doesn’t mean anything. Google tells me KU has a 50k stadium but how many people show up for a game?
Would Oregon and Washington be equal or greater than WVU/Oklahoma state? Those are probably the “marquee” teams in both, correct?
still not sold they aren’t moving eventually. There were a few whispers about usc a while back and everyone laughed and then all of a sudden it was official
I’m sure they are and I don’t mean to diminish them, because it could’ve easily been us in their situation
Oregon and TCU are probably most comparable. TCU is in a far bigger market though. Washington is really weird and it’s hard to find a good comparison. Washington compares to TCU a bit as well.
if you think WVU is a marquee brand in the big 12 then I’m not sure you should be speaking with any conviction about the Big 12 in general
wvu has a pretty substantial fan base, travels well, and there are wvu bars in most major cities Who would you say are the biggest brands?
Tech, Baylor, TCU, and Houston are all bigger brands because they play in a state of 30 million people who are obsessed with football (when there is electricity) byu has an entire religion that follows it ucf and Cincinnati are both in large cities wvu does have devine tho
Does anyone in Houston actually watch Houston football though? I don’t disagree that they have the potential to be a big football brand because they are in Houston, but my understanding is they don’t exactly attract eyeballs. And just a quick glance at their attendance figures shows they didn’t even eclipse 30K to a home game last season.
The worldwide leader is publishing hit pieces on the Pac 12 in the middle of active negotiations and many in here still think that it’s a superior brand to the big 12. Absolutely fascinating the power of the ocean
This is accurate. WV is a state of 1.8 million people, and our TV ratings are really good when you take that into context. Top 30 in terms of ratings We sell out our ticket allotments pretty much same day. We traveled even better when we were in the BE
12 highest net cumulative victory margins over g5 schools for a rolling five year period get into the playoff.
does anyone give a shit about Houston or Cincinnati? Being in a big city doesn’t mean anything. If that was the case, what you said about Stanford is incorrect UCF lol
this seems like a poor troll attempt. But 3/4 of the posts on this thread have been poor troll attempts
My post wasn’t speaking to football fandom, more so TV network money per school for 10 schools in the PAC in a new TV agreement vs a new Big12 14 schools. I don’t think it’s a slam dunk at all Big12 gets more money per school in a new agreement.
