Def gators #1, but I’d put UCF #2 since 2016 or so. UCF best seasons coincided with FSU falling off the face of the earth.
WVU as one of our biggest brands is hilarious. I assume it’s a troll attempt so I’m not engaging in it seriously but it is very funny
Sorry we had a gap towards the end of the GOL era that I blocked from my memory until the Milton era.
we can all agree it’s not: Iowa state Kansas K-State Houston TCU UCF Cincinnati Texas Tech Baylor that leaves: Oklahoma state Wvu BYU still think my original point that Washington and Oregon are much bigger football brands than anything in b12
hes talking about brand, and baylor despite their golden era of sports is still a tiny weird religious school that has the fewest number of fans in the conference sans TCU
Id love to get your opinion. Which of those12 schools, most of which were recently in a mid major conference, are the biggest 2 in the conference and are equal with Washington and Oregon?
Baylor is probably one of the most well known brands in football. Just not so much because of the football.
idk what to tell you if you think Kansas and Kansas state football are the two biggest football brands in those 12
from a football program value standpoint, the three most valuable schools are kansas state, oklahoma state, and texas tech according to WSJ
we can all agree the last two basketball national champions pale in comparison to the flagship university of a destitute coal mining state
isn’t Washington one of those Pre Invention of Hd TV brands that is never coming back? Oregon has Phil Knight to make up for the location
Yeah def not football for KU, wasn’t thinking just football. I do think K State is as big or bigger than Oklahoma State, but I don’t even live in that region so maybe not
The Big 12 is the brand. The beauty is that they are all so even and there isn’t a dominant force like Texas, Ohio State, USC, etc.
Tarpon, let’s flip it around. What DO you like about WVU that makes them the strongest brand? You seem to just neg all the other schools like WVU is somehow clearly superior.
those rankings are always all over the place with why is public knowledge, the way they allocate money etc. but this is probably something you could use to try and rationalize this
correct, there is one bad program and football will be compelling every year with many above average programs that play fun styles
I get what you’re saying, but having seen their on-field product first hand for the last decade plus I can’t help but laugh
Well this discussion has gone way off the tracks The original question this morning involved what was going to get more money/be more sellable- the new pac10 or the future b12. I think the pac is better at the very top, but worse at the bottom. The big12 is probably more even top to bottom, but lags significantly behind with what its top is Washington and Oregon are much larger football brands than anything the b12 would have. But the pac 12 has more bottom feeders that idk what you do with my point with wvu is there are bars that have watch parties in Tampa. I’ve randomly stumbled across them in other cities as well. Never come across any other b12 school.
https://graphics.wsj.com/table/NCAA_2019 Looks like per nationally respected publication the Wall Street journal, we cats are the big swinging dick of the big 12
maybe, but as someone who knows the current big 12 schools inside and out, KSU/OSU/TTU are the most valuable football programs in some order and have large fanbases in major metros that’s not to say WVU isn’t one of the best brands in the conference though, and they bring Pittsburgh imo: KSU/OSU/TTU WVU/KU BYU/UCF ISU/cincinnati baylor houston TCU
good or bad recently has nothing to do with it. Wake Forrest won the division last year. They aren’t a bigger football brand than Clemson or fsu
1.) $$$$$$$ 2.) football makes the money and is why all this shit has been happening. Obvs if we are talking bball it’s much different
Anything thinking the Buffs will jump at a Big 12 offer should know that our administration is terrible, and they love the idea of being associated with the academics at Cal and Stanford. I don’t think we’ll be making any bold moves until their hand is forced. Otherwise, I think there’s a lot of people in here overrating Big 12 fan bases and underrating PAC fan bases (except Stanford, which is not good). Most of the schools are in the 45k to 55k attendance range with varying levels of national interest. Regardless, if the Buffs had anything resembling competent leadership, we’d make the jump now, get back to some old rivalries and get away from the P12 network.
If anyone gave a shit about college basketball the ACC wouldn't be in total ruin with all 3 of its worthwhile members trying desperately to sabotage the conference and escape to avoid becoming completely irrelevant.
idk why people haven’t figured this out and keep talking about unc and duke like anyone gives a shit about academics or basketball
academics are way more valuable than basketball. the b1g is actually pretty smart to prioritize huge research universities and they make a fortune on grants for collaborative research.
duke is dead as an athletic program now that K has retired but UNC is still a major brand, certainly bigger than oregon and washington
just to clarify - I’m not saying Washington and Oregon are on par with Alabama and notre dame or Ohio state just that those two are above what the big12 can offer that being said, ain’t no one watching unc football
