Gotcha sorry. We haven’t really heard much on that but I definitely wouldn’t exclude Cole Palmer. Expecting he’s going to see decent minutes.

    But just looking at numbers:

Losing 1800 minutes in Zinchenko, expected to be replaced.

Losing 1761 minutes in Fernandinho, replaced by Phillips and I’d expect him to have more minutes than that.

Losing about 5650 combined minutes from Jesus and Sterling. Haaland will obviously get a large number of those. Álvarez will get some, Palmer will see increased minutes (only 400 last season), Jack will see an increase (2700).

When you look at what was lost minutes wise and what was added, it doesn’t really seem like there would be much to offer but it certainly makes things risky if there’s a significant injury

Right. I know Laporte is out for a bit, probably why Ake got a fuck off price to Chelsea.

It just seems unnecessarily risky that City, with the all the money in the world, wouldn't go and add another best available guy in midfield or something.

Going to be funny/maddening when English football pundits blag on about City's depth.

Let’s be honest, you’re just upset that this year City is beating LFC in the only thing they truly matters, net spend

Just you wait, Chelsea is going to spend £13m on Nat Phillips on deadline day.

    Jesus > Haaland
    Sterling > Alvarez
    Fernandinho > Phillips
    Zinchenko > New LB signing
    Steffen > Ortega

City have a few academy players whove done very well who will probably get some time this year. Palmer and Wilson-Esbrand two of them. If they bring in a LB (Cucurella or someone else) they'll have 10 reserves who should get a lot of minutes in Ortega, Wilson-Esbrand, Ake, Stones, new LB, Phillips, Gundogan, Grealish, Palmer and Alvarez. Only position without cover would be one of CM, but McAtee is currently still on squad and may get a shot, and guys like Grealish and Foden could drop into midfield a couple matches

That is awful. But our 3rd last year were so terrible these atrocities seem palatable

Team is not sharp yet, the short preseason while switching tactics may not have been great idea. Luckily schedule isn't a murderers row to start. At West Ham next week may be tough. But after that Bournemouth, at Newcastle (could be a test), Palace, Forest and at Villa. Should give us enough matches before we get to top 6 clubs

I'm bias, but I think Sterling is better than Grealish. I suppose it is similar to Diaz replacing Mane. Diaz and Grealish are more traditional wingers to feed a traditional number 9. And Sterling and Mane are both inside forwards.

Neither Diaz nor Grealish will score the goals that Sterling or Mane did. But they will get both teams up the pitch.

I dont think the Sterling and Mane situations are that similar at all. Mane was a pivotal part of Liverpool front 3 and Sterling was the odd man out in major matches for City. He didn't start either Madrid leg nor the final match day. And it wasn't Grealish holding him back, it was Foden and Mahrez. Foden couldn't play in the 2 US friendlies so he probably wasn't fit to play in CS, but I'd expect he's getting those LW starts again soon (although with heavy rotation). Especially since we have 2 real strikers now, it takes away the false 9 option for him. I really liked Sterling, he was frustrating but I thought he brought something different than our other wingers and was sad to see him go. But he was on his last year of his deal, Pep told him he wasn't going to be a full time starter and they got a good value for him, so it totally makes sense to do that move.

I agree with you that Mane is better than Sterling. Firmino was always the key man that made it work. If Brazil had started Bobby Firmino, they'd have won the World Cup.

Also, Jota exists. I look forward the season. All the best.

Yea I didn't mean that Liverpool didn't have pieces to help cover the loss, meant in the way that I think the loss was tougher on them than Sterling was to City. City biggest problem to me and the front 3 is they've completely changed their tactics going from a false 9 to an out and out striker. On top of that most players brought in to Peps system have taken a year to get the hang of it. Rodri, Cancelo, Gundogan, Stones were all considered somewhat busts early on in their City career before settling in. Think Grealish could make that same jump this season, but wouldn't shock me if it takes some time for Haaland to adjust and for the team to adjust to having him. On the flip side Liverpool will be playing pretty similar tactics to the way their players already have played

Transfer window started so well, but losing Cucarella to Chelsea and Bernardo to Barca rumors heating up again, not loving the ending. Although 50m for Cucurella seems crazy high, I think they can get other good options a lot cheaper. Gundogan starting is fine too and it sounds like Paqueta may be a replacement for him too. But that's a lot of roster turnover in one year.

I don’t think £50M is crazy high at all. He’s 24 and proven in both LaLiga and EPL with 4 years left on his contract.

Paquetá is going to cost a shit load

Cancelo looked good at LB last year and neither him nor Walker look to be bench players at the moment. Is Cucurella good enough to take LB from Cancelo? And if not, then $50 m is a lot for a backup.

Also rumored city only going to sell Bernardo for $80 mil or more, so they'll be really far into the black with money to spend on a cm if they have to replace him

I think he goes there next offseason and city splash on a new CM next year. But Barca seem determined to mortgage their future for this window and Pep doesn't like keeping players who want to leave

Kyle is a pace reliant 32 year old. Cancelo barely played LB before he came to City. He’s been incredible filling in but he’s the long term RB and Cucurella would be the long term LB.

Bringing him in now gives time you into ease him in before it’s clear Kyle isn’t the same player as before. He makes mistakes that his pace then covers up so when it goes, it may go fast.

Seeing reports they are also bidding for joško gvardiol, so don't get ahead of yourself. May just mean Ake starts playing some more LB if they bring in another CB instead

He was linked a lot when we were possibly selling Aké. Before today it had seemed that died down and Chelsea were the ones after him most.

Bild is hit and miss but there are others reporting at least contact so that seems believable but if Bild is correct that they rejected an €80M bid this is stupid and we absolutely should be paying Brighton’s valuation for Cucurella

I also don't get bringing in Gomez and someone else, unless they don't want Cancelo and Walker starting this year. Because if they want to bring in a starting level LB too, then Wilson-Esbrand seems a solid choice as the developmental LB. If they are bringing in a 1st team LB, then they probably should get a developmental RB instead. Start Walker and new LB with Cancelo backing up both (heavy rotation) and Wilson-Esbrand/young RB developing. When Walker goes, Cancelo fully takes over RB with new LB target and Wilson-Esbrand/young RB as backups

Maybe you’re just higher on Wilson-Esbrand than the staff is

If they want Gomez and another then to me it seems like they probably want:

Start Cancelo and Walker as first choice fullbacks

Bring in Cucurella to get him comfortable and ready to take over next season with plenty of minutes this season

Bring in Gomez and develop him

Next season Cucurella and Cancelo with Gomez and Walker as cover while finding a development RB

He apparently was last one off pitch yesterday after going to every end of the stadium and applauding fans then posted this...first time I've actually thought he may leave this year. It also seems Pep prefers Gundo in the starting 11 in his new tweaked tactics. Hopefully they can bring in a replacement. Would be real light in MF if he leaves.
