first pass I turned it off after 20 minutes. Second time I watched it all the way through and kind of enjoyed because I went into it knowing it was totally ridiculous 2020 Hollywood name actor fellatio
The grey man was awful. Started Friday night, turned off, picked it back up Saturday night, turned it off, And made myself finish last night really wanted for like it and didn’t have high hopes but mannnnnn it sucked the Ryan Reynolds and the rock movie was better than this
Honestly it could have been fine if they just would have toned it down a notch. Spoiler The whole "let's just indiscriminately wipe out everyone in a major city" and then have everyone move on with their day was too much.
I thought it was a semi comedy. It’s so over the top that I don’t think they’re taking themselves too seriously with the plot/characters (especially Evans). It’s just a vehicle for cool action scenes.
i laughed a few times. I think it was supposed to be a serious movie like Bourne but idk it was just so over the top ridiculous
another vote for gray man was comically awful and an absolute waste of goslings particular talents it takes skill to make a movie with that budget and cast THAT bad
It's probably nothing on a board like TMB, but is anyone else into Korean dramas? I started with Squid Game then branched off into like 20+ shows and have a sub to Viki now. Hooked on the K-Dramas. Netflix has a tremendous library. Beyond Evil is probably a top 5 all time show for me up there with The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Shield, and Justified.
Loved squid game and that got me over the lazy subtitle aversion. Want to try kingdom next and will add beyond evil to the list. Off topic, but Barbarians is really good.
I lived in South Korea as a kid and went to K and 1st grade there. Korean culture has always intrigued me. Beyond Evil is good. My wife doesn’t get it so I have to watch when I get spare time but it’s great.
Kingdom is great, but I'd recommend Beyond Evil first. Just an awesome suspense/thriller. Kingdom is great if you love zombies though.
For sure, such an interesting culture, especially to a drunk like me. Seems like alcohol is a major part of the male Korean lifestyle. Idk what the Korean version of a weeb is, but that's me.
I wish I was older because I would have remembered more. My dad loved it. He’s not a big drinker but he says a few times he got after it with his Korean colleagues. I’ve always wanted to visit as an adult.
Back on topic though, netflix has a crazy library of Korean dramas to watch for those interested. I've been watching non stop for a year between Netflix and viki and still have a ton of highly regarded shows to get thru. Just thought it was an interested topic since most people don't bother with sub shows and movies.
Yeah, the wife and I are kinda obsessed with them. There are tons of great options as well as you said.
I don’t think he lost the plot as much as his act just got stale. He started wavering pretty bad in the beginning of covid but seemed to be aware enough to right the course a bit. I loved Burr 15 years ago. Between the podcast, specials, etc, I got fatigued with his browbeating brand of comedy.
It happens to most comedians. They get famous and their cynicism turns into punching down/"don't question me" because they no longer have real problems. He had started whining about cultural grievances before the pandemic.
Part of the reason I remember is I tried to watch one of his latest specials in 2017ish and couldn't make it more than 5 minutes before I turned it off. It was awful
Grievance is Burr’s entire act and has been since day 1. It didn’t get any worse with time (imo), it’s just not that entertaining/funny over and over and over again.
Burr hasn’t changed what he “punches down” on. He’s been hitting the same groups since very early on…women, minorities, etc. Chappelle is an example of what you are talking about. He changed. He’s a dick. Burr’s act is just tired in 2022.
“Immoral Compass” on Roku is hilarious even if you don’t like Burr. Got him an Emmy nomination. It’s not near as good as “I think you should leave” but that style of a show. I laughed my ass off at the Nick Swardson skit.
Nah. I started with his earlier 'good' work. It wasn't funny then either. To be clear, I'm not really talking about his punching directionality or anything like that. He's just a high-strung edgelord who grew his act and audience by tilting hard, not by being actually good at comedy. Which he's not. He's just an obnoxious idiot.
Is it tied to the business culture like Japan? Going out drinking with a crew of Japanese salary men sounds a bit unnerving
I thought Burr was hilarious 10-15 years ago. I was also a much different person then. Burr on Conan talking about Oprah and Lance Armstrong is still one of the funniest things to me. “And she stood on the heads of those little people…”
Started a rewatch of Marco Polo. Really wish they wouldn’t have cut shoes so quickly back in the day. Santa Clarita Diet was another one gone too soon
Not on Netflix but...saw Vengeance today. Surprisingly a damn good movie. Definitely recommend. Some legit hilarious moments/lines and a unique movie in times where that can be hard to come by.
Rewatching Top Boy summerhouse. Imagine having a teacher like Kierston Wareing growing up, damn right I’m gonna held you grow weed
